Independent Directors - Legal Aspects of BusinessRohit Kumar
An independent director is defined as one who does not have any material pecuniary relationship with the company that would interfere with their judgment. They should not be related to promoters/management, have been an executive in the last 3 years, be a partner of auditing firms for the company, or own over 2% of company shares. Having independent directors provides an outside perspective, impartial approval of transactions, business advice, and oversight to counter management weaknesses. Key aspects of their role are ensuring board independence through their presence and diligence through meeting attendance. It is important they maintain independence over long associations, be involved in key committees, conduct separate meetings, seek justifications, and continually develop skills. However, their role also faces practical difficulties
Rohit Kumar conducted a winter internship with AkzoNobel India to identify potential customers in the repainting industry in Navi Mumbai. He surveyed societies to understand their current paint usage and market size. Rohit analyzed the data, identified key customer preferences, and recommended marketing strategies to promote AkzoNobel's new PUMA product and capture more of the repainting market. His experience included negotiating with security guards for leads, using apps to provide instant demos, pitching to change customers from Asian Paints to AkzoNobel, and visiting over 200 societies in 30 days.
Salt cementation was an ancient technique for separating gold and silver. It involved heating together an alloy of gold and silver with salt, clay or brick dust, and urine. Chemical reactions would occur that produced hydrochloric acid and chlorine, causing the silver to separate out as silver chloride. This left the gold in a purer state that was suitable for currency, usually 18k or higher purity. The technique was important for early civilizations to refine precious metals, though it is no longer widely used due to more advanced modern refining methods.

Application of Game Theory in Google adwords biddingRohit Kumar
Google AdWords is an online advertising service that enables advertisers to bid on advertising space through a second price auction. Advertisers submit sealed bids based on keywords, with the highest bidder winning the spot but only paying the second highest bid amount. This type of auction incentivizes truthful bidding as the winning bidder has no incentive to bid higher than their private valuation and loses nothing by bidding their true valuation.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has revolutionized the creation of images and videos, enabling the generation of highly realistic and imaginative visual content. Utilizing advanced techniques like Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) and neural style transfer, AI can transform simple sketches into detailed artwork or blend various styles into unique visual masterpieces. GANs, in particular, function by pitting two neural networks against each other, resulting in the production of remarkably lifelike images. AI's ability to analyze and learn from vast datasets allows it to create visuals that not only mimic human creativity but also push the boundaries of artistic expression, making it a powerful tool in digital media and entertainment industries.

Decolonizing Universal Design for LearningFrederic Fovet
UDL has gained in popularity over the last decade both in the K-12 and the post-secondary sectors. The usefulness of UDL to create inclusive learning experiences for the full array of diverse learners has been well documented in the literature, and there is now increasing scholarship examining the process of integrating UDL strategically across organisations. One concern, however, remains under-reported and under-researched. Much of the scholarship on UDL ironically remains while and Eurocentric. Even if UDL, as a discourse, considers the decolonization of the curriculum, it is abundantly clear that the research and advocacy related to UDL originates almost exclusively from the Global North and from a Euro-Caucasian authorship. It is argued that it is high time for the way UDL has been monopolized by Global North scholars and practitioners to be challenged. Voices discussing and framing UDL, from the Global South and Indigenous communities, must be amplified and showcased in order to rectify this glaring imbalance and contradiction.
This session represents an opportunity for the author to reflect on a volume he has just finished editing entitled Decolonizing UDL and to highlight and share insights into the key innovations, promising practices, and calls for change, originating from the Global South and Indigenous Communities, that have woven the canvas of this book. The session seeks to create a space for critical dialogue, for the challenging of existing power dynamics within the UDL scholarship, and for the emergence of transformative voices from underrepresented communities. The workshop will use the UDL principles scrupulously to engage participants in diverse ways (challenging single story approaches to the narrative that surrounds UDL implementation) , as well as offer multiple means of action and expression for them to gain ownership over the key themes and concerns of the session (by encouraging a broad range of interventions, contributions, and stances).

1. Challenge 3
Cause-Effect Diagram: Poor Placement of Students
1. Infrastructure/ Location 2.Student Quality 3. Performance of stakeholders
Poor placement
4. faculty/education quality 5. College Ranking
Causes for key root causes:
1. Infrastructure/ Location
- Location of college is at some remote location and access to industry is poor
- Poor infrastructure, buildings
- Poor resources such labs , systems, Network
- Weather MBA is a flagship program in that college. (Eg; IITs offer MBA but it is not
their flagship program)
- Poor connectivity form industrial hubs such as Metro cities (IIM shilliong and IIM
Kashipur)
- Access to industries
- Perception of industries about college (IIT is perceived to be more into technical and
operations profile)
- Bigger batch strength
2. 2. Student Quality
- Vast difference in intake criteria for category candidates such lower score make
them eligible.
- Student’s poor communication and interpersonal skills
- No prior experience of the student
- No clear objective towards purpose of doing MBA
- Not sure about career aspirations
- Non energetic
- Low academic grades
- Not bringing enough to the table
- Confined groupings and not networking with peers
- Physical problems.
- Attitude problem of the candidate
3. Poor Performance of stakeholders
A. Placement team:
- Not having enough industry relations
- Not having industry experience
- Lack of coordination in the team
- Lack of transparency with the student
- Not so good scheduling and arrangement
B. College:
- Proper screening of students during admission process
- Compromising with the cut off to increase intake
- If college schedule is delayed, the placement process will also be delayed. Hence,
the company requirement might also get saturated
- Not supportive in the corporate competitions
- Lack of Public Relation between college and companies
- College image.
- Quality of entrance exams accepted for intake of students (Cat/Xat/ IITJEE)
C. Seniors:
- Not supportive
- Poor networking with the juniors
- Less of knowledge transfer session from them
- Inefficient student council members
D. Alum base:
- Less support from the aluminous
- Poor performances of alumni, hence creates bad image of the organization
3. E. Companies:
- Profiles offered are not desirable to the students
- CTC offered by the company
4. Faculty/education quality
- Not having enough number of faculties
- The quality of faculties
- Faculties not having enough industry connections
- Lacks in providing live cases and practical industry exposure
- Course structure is not up to date to the requirement of the market
5. College Ranking
- Low ranked college is less preferred by good companies
- Candidates usually prefer highly ranked colleges. Hence, the quality of students gets
diluted due to lower ranks.
At last, there are also external factors which effect the placements. Such as if market is not
supportive or there are some natural calamities.
4. Solutions
1) Infrastructure / Location
a) For improving location we can’t do much as such but we can open some new branches
of college in better location if it is economically viable. For example: IIM Indore has
opened up a new branch in Mumbai for better location.
b) With respect to development of infrastructure, some investors or charitable
organization can be looked for as placement is one of important criteria in rankings.
c) Also, highly successful alums could be requested for funding.
d) College with poor location can minimize this disadvantage by establishing better
communication and connectivity between college and industry locations. For Example:
IIM Shillong despite relatively older institute does not have that good placement as it
should have been but IIT Ranchi with the same trait is growing very rapidly with its
better connectivity and communication.
2) Student Quality
a) Programs to improve interpersonal skills and communication of students should be
given highest regard.
b) Admission process should be rigorous for getting good quality of student.
c) Collaborative Practicum in terms of exposure to industrial experts should be given to
students in addition to theoretical knowledge which will give them industrial
perspective.
d) Course curriculum should be properly chosen after proper discussion with leaders and
industry requirements.
3) Bettering the performance of stake holder
a) Selecting smart students and faculty placement coordinator for the placements cell.
b) Giving best performance by the students during the summer internship.
c) Improving overall performance and ranking of the college.
d) Selecting placement team through rigorous process and giving them proper training
afterwards.
e) Holding meeting between placement team and faculty members at regular intervals to
know their issues.
f) Live cases should be given to students improve college stature.
5. 4) Faculty/Education Quality
a) Good quality of faculty should be chosen as it directly reflects on the quality of students.
b) Proper training should be given to faculties so as to improve their qualities.
c) Along with faculty qualification, faculty should be judge on their capability of proving
those knowledge in an efficient ways.
d) Faculty and student exchange program should be promoted exchange ideas and hence
improve qualities.
e) Student should be bestowed with industrial trips for giving new dimension to their
perspective.
f) Promoting research oriented program in university will improve overall quality of
education.
5) College Ranking
a) Improvement in Infrastructure / Location, Student Quality, performance of stake holder
and faculty/education quality will automatically improve college ranking.
b) Public Relation of college should be improved in order to get true ranking of college.
c) Continuous development and new program should be introduced which helps in
improving college ranking.
d) Other activities should also be promoted for all members of university as it constitutes
an important criteria in ranking a college.
e) Research is one of highest point fetching in ranking of a college and hence it should be
given utmost importance.
