GATT
GATT
5/30/2015 15
The General Agreement On Tariff And
Trade(GATT),the predecessor of WTO , was
born in 1948 ,as result of the international
desire to liberalize trade.
The GATT was transformed into a World Trade
Organization(WTO) with effect from January
1995.
OBJECTIVES OF GATT
The Preamble to the GATT mentioned the following as
its important objectives-
1) Raising standard of living.
2) Ensuring full employment and a large and steadily
grow volume of real income and effective demand.
3) Developing full use of the resources of the world.
4) Expansion of production and international trade.
5/30/2015 16
TRIPS
• The Agreement on Trade Related Aspects of
Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) is
an international agreement administered by
the World Trade Organization (WTO) that sets
down minimum standards for many forms
of intellectual property (IP) regulation as
applied to nationals of other WTO Members.
• It was negotiated at the end of the Uruguay
Round of the General Agreement on Tariffs
and Trade (GATT) in 1994

Checking out of defects, with appropriate and
corrective action where necessary
Regularly reviewing individual processes and
the quality system itself for effectiveness
Facilitate continual improvement
ISO 9001-doesnot guarantee any quality of end
products &sevices,rather it certifies that
formalized business processes are being
applied
5/30/2015 19
EIGHT QUALITY PRINCIPLES
1. A customer focus
2. Leadership
3. Involvement of people
4. A process approach
5. A system approach to management
6. Continual improvement
7. Use of a factual approach to decision
making
8. Mutually beneficial supplier relationships

REQUIREMENT FOR REGISTRATION OF
ISO 9000
• Company Review
• Refine
• Map Functions
– Process control
– Inspection
– Purchasing
– Training
– Packaging
– Delivery
5/30/2015 21
REQUIREMENT FOR REGISTRATION OF
ISO 9000
• Must reregistered every 3 years
• Helpful for companies that do not currently
have a quality management
5/30/2015 22
ADVANTAGES
• Create a more efficient, effective operation
• Increase customer satisfaction and retention
• Reduce audits
• Enhance marketing
• Improve employee motivation, awareness, and
morale
• Promote international trade
• Increase profit
• Reduce waste and increase productivity.
DISADVANTAGES
• The amount of money, time and paperwork required for
registration
• Company can intend to produce a poor quality product and
providing it does so consistently and with the proper
documentation can put an ISO 9001 stamp on it
• The standard is seen as especially prone to failure when a
company is interested in certification before quality
• Certifications are in fact often based on customer
contractual requirements rather than a desire to actually
improve quality
• Competition among the numerous certifying bodies,
leading to a softer approach to the defects noticed in the
operation of the Quality System of a firm
ISO 9000 Series
• Explains fundamental quality concepts
and provides guidelines for the selection
and application of each standard
ISO 9000
• Model for quality assurance in design,
development, production, installation and
servicing.
ISO 9001
• Model for quality assurance in the
production and installation of
manufacturing systems
ISO 9002
• Quality assurance in final
inspection and testing.
ISO
9003
• Guidelines for the applications of
standards in quality management
and quality systems.
ISO
9004
Cost Control

the expenditure of funds is know as cost
control.
In other words , it means to regulate/control
the operating costs in a business firm.
