Database Essentials for Healthcare Finance ProfessionalsBrad Adams
I presented this information at the 2013 Tennessee HFMA Fall Institute.
Databases sit behind the scenes and store nearly every piece of information related to healthcare finance in
our hospitals and clinics. We depend on databases for everything from accepting a point of service payment to
claim submission. Communication breakdowns between finance and information management often lead to
frustration, inaccurate reports and poor decision making. Learning a few basic database concepts and key
terms is essential to receiving useful and accurate data in a timely manner and creating meaningful financial
and revenue cycle reports.
Learning Objectives:
• Understand essentials of good database design.
• Learn the basics of database queries.
Take Away: Participants will have a better understanding of how data is structured and queried which will help
with in writing and/or requesting reports that contain healthcare finance information.

superior patient care, strict cost control and improved profitability. HMS is powerful, flexible,
and easy to use and is designed and developed to deliver real conceivable benefits to hospitals.
More importantly it is backed by reliable and dependable support.
The project ‘Hospital Management System’ is based on the database, object oriented and
networking techniques. As there are many areas where we keep the records in database for
which we are using MY SQL software which is one of the best and the easiest software to keep
our information. This project uses .NET as the front-end software which is a platform
independent and has connectivity with MY SQL.
Hospital Management System is custom built to meet the specific requirement of the mid. All
the required modules and features have been particularly built to just fit in to your
requirement. This package has been widely accepted by the clients in India and overseas. Entire
application is web based and built on 2 tier architecture. The sound database of the application
makes it more users friendly and expandable. The package is customizable and can be modified
as per the needs and requirements of our clients. Prolonged study of the functionalities is
wonderful shape and usability wise. It covers all the required modules right from Patient Login,
Patient Tests, Doctor Login, Test Reports, Admin, Doctor Leaves, Patient appointment, bill
payment, record modification etc.
Advantages :-
Hospitals currently use a manual system for the management and maintenance of critical
information. The current system requires numerous paper forms, with data stores spread
throughout the hospital management infrastructure. Often information (on forms) is incomplete,
or does not follow management standards. Forms are often lost in transit between departments
requiring a comprehensive auditing process to ensure that no vital information is lost. Multiple
copies of the same information exist in the hospital and may lead to inconsistencies in data in
various data stores.
The document provides several UML diagrams as examples for a Hospital Management system, including:
1) A class diagram showing the domain model with classes like Ward, Doctor, and relationships between entities.
2) A use case diagram for the hospital reception subsystem showing use cases like scheduling appointments and admissions.
3) A use case diagram for a radiology diagnostic reporting system showing actors like Report Creator and Report Manager.
4) An information flow diagram for a scheduled radiology workflow showing information hand-offs between actors.
5) An activity diagram for an electronic prescription service showing prescription sending and retrieval processes.
VIRTUAL CLINIC: A CDSS ASSISTEDTELEMEDICINE FRAMEWORKIRJET Journal
This document summarizes a research paper on developing a virtual clinic decision support system. It aims to address the issue of limited doctor availability compared to the large number of patients. The proposed system would collect input from patients about their symptoms and vital signs. It would then use previous medical records and algorithms to diagnose the condition, determine appropriate treatment, and add the patient to a queue for the physician. The goal is to speed up the treatment process by providing an initial evaluation and reducing the workload on doctors. The document discusses the system architecture, scope, applications, objectives and conclusions of the research.
The document describes a proposed e-healthcare system that would automate a hospital's manual patient, doctor, and receptionist record-keeping system. It notes limitations of current manual systems like incomplete or inconsistent data. The proposed system would use computer equipment and software to securely store healthcare information for easy access and management. This would help staff focus on other tasks than record-keeping and help the hospital better manage resources. The system architecture includes modules for administration, doctors, and receptionists to manage user accounts and patient records.

1) SQL is used to query and manipulate data in relational databases. It includes languages for data definition (DDL), data manipulation (DML), and transaction control.
2) Tables in SQL contain rows (tuples) and columns (attributes). The schema defines the table structure. Keys uniquely identify rows.
3) Basic SQL queries use SELECT, FROM, WHERE to retrieve data. Joins combine data from multiple tables by matching column values.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has revolutionized the creation of images and videos, enabling the generation of highly realistic and imaginative visual content. Utilizing advanced techniques like Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) and neural style transfer, AI can transform simple sketches into detailed artwork or blend various styles into unique visual masterpieces. GANs, in particular, function by pitting two neural networks against each other, resulting in the production of remarkably lifelike images. AI's ability to analyze and learn from vast datasets allows it to create visuals that not only mimic human creativity but also push the boundaries of artistic expression, making it a powerful tool in digital media and entertainment industries.
Decolonizing Universal Design for LearningFrederic Fovet
UDL has gained in popularity over the last decade both in the K-12 and the post-secondary sectors. The usefulness of UDL to create inclusive learning experiences for the full array of diverse learners has been well documented in the literature, and there is now increasing scholarship examining the process of integrating UDL strategically across organisations. One concern, however, remains under-reported and under-researched. Much of the scholarship on UDL ironically remains while and Eurocentric. Even if UDL, as a discourse, considers the decolonization of the curriculum, it is abundantly clear that the research and advocacy related to UDL originates almost exclusively from the Global North and from a Euro-Caucasian authorship. It is argued that it is high time for the way UDL has been monopolized by Global North scholars and practitioners to be challenged. Voices discussing and framing UDL, from the Global South and Indigenous communities, must be amplified and showcased in order to rectify this glaring imbalance and contradiction.
This session represents an opportunity for the author to reflect on a volume he has just finished editing entitled Decolonizing UDL and to highlight and share insights into the key innovations, promising practices, and calls for change, originating from the Global South and Indigenous Communities, that have woven the canvas of this book. The session seeks to create a space for critical dialogue, for the challenging of existing power dynamics within the UDL scholarship, and for the emergence of transformative voices from underrepresented communities. The workshop will use the UDL principles scrupulously to engage participants in diverse ways (challenging single story approaches to the narrative that surrounds UDL implementation) , as well as offer multiple means of action and expression for them to gain ownership over the key themes and concerns of the session (by encouraging a broad range of interventions, contributions, and stances).
