Graphics software acts as an intermediary between application programs and graphics hardware, supporting output primitives and interaction devices. There are two main types of graphics software: general programming packages that provide extensive graphics functions for use in languages like C and FORTRAN, including functions for shapes, colors, and transformations; and special-purpose applications packages that are designed for non-programmers to generate displays without programming knowledge, such as painting and CAD programs.

Graphics Software A graphics software is an intermediary between an application program & the graphics hardware. The output primitives & interaction devices that a graphics package supports .
There are two general classifications for  graphics software: General Programming packages: provides an extensive set of graphics functions that can be used in a high-level programming language, such as C or FORTRAN. Basic functions in a general package include those for generating picture components (straight line, circle, polygon etc),setting color and intensity values, & applying transformations.
 Special-purpose applications packages: Designed for nonprogrammers, so that users can generate displays without worrying about how graphics operations work. Example of such application packages are the artist’s painting programs and various business,medical and CAD systems.

The main objectives that were put forward for GKS are: –To control all types of graphic devices such as plotters and display devices in a consistent manner, –To be small enough for a variety of programs –To provide the complete range of graphical facilities in 2D, including the interactive capabilities,
IGESis the most comprehensive standard and is designed to transmit the entire product definition including that of manufacturing and any other associated information
Dimensional Measurement Interface Specification (DMIS) is a new standard in communication being established by CAM-I for manufacturing.

  • 2. Graphics Software A graphics software is an intermediary between an application program & the graphics hardware. The output primitives & interaction devices that a graphics package supports .

There are two general classifications for  graphics software: General Programming packages: provides an extensive set of graphics functions that can be used in a high-level programming language, such as C or FORTRAN. Basic functions in a general package include those for generating picture components (straight line, circle, polygon etc),setting color and intensity values, & applying transformations.
  • 4.  Special-purpose applications packages: Designed for nonprogrammers, so that users can generate displays without worrying about how graphics operations work. Example of such application packages are the artist’s painting programs and various business,medical and CAD systems.

The main objectives that were put forward for GKS are: –To control all types of graphic devices such as plotters and display devices in a consistent manner, –To be small enough for a variety of programs –To provide the complete range of graphical facilities in 2D, including the interactive capabilities,

  • 10. Dimensional Measurement Interface Specification (DMIS) is a new standard in communication being established by CAM-I for manufacturing.
