Mending the Education Divide: Getting strong teachers to the schools that nee...EduSkills OECD
Teachers can shape their students' educational careers. Research shows that children taught by different teachers often experience very different educational outcomes. This begs the questions: how are teachers assigned to schools in different countries? And to what extent do students from different backgrounds have access to good teachers?
Andreas Schleicher presents the latest OECD TALIS analysis that shows how teachers with different characteristics and practices tend to concentrate in different schools, and how much access students with different socio-economic backgrounds have to good teachers. He then explores how we can change education policy to distribute strong teachers more fairly.

Finnish teacher education focuses on developing teachers' research skills and pedagogical thinking. Student teachers complete practice periods where they teach under supervision and reflect on their lessons individually and in group discussions. The goal is for teachers to be able to both conduct research and apply research findings in their own teaching, making data-driven decisions. Research skills and reflection are emphasized throughout teacher education.

Andreas Schleicher, OECD Director of Education and Skills, presents data and reveals insights from the 2023 Education at a Glance report, which includes a special feature on Vocational Education and Training, with the aim of empowering educators, policymakers, and stakeholders with the data and analysis to shape their education systems.
This document compares the education systems of the United States and Finland. It provides facts about each country's system, such as the United States having diverse classrooms while Finland's are more homogeneous. It notes Finland's schools have half-day sessions, little homework, and high teacher standards. While the U.S. spends more on education, Finnish students consistently score higher on international tests. The document examines teacher training differences and discusses challenges in comparing the two systems given the U.S.'s issues with poverty, private schools, and language diversity. It concludes with suggestions for improving the U.S. system, such as changing testing and better supporting teachers.
Education at a Glance 2022 Andreas Schleicher Global AnalysisEduSkills OECD
This document provides a summary of key findings from the OECD's 2022 report "Education at a Glance". It finds that while school closures due to COVID-19 were rare in 2021/22, assessing the pandemic's impact was a priority. Most countries implemented various recovery measures and digital tools use increased. It also examines trends in tertiary education like increasing attainment rates, employment and wage benefits of degrees, and differences in completion rates and fields of study by gender. Spending on tertiary education varies more between countries than other levels.
The Future of Higher Education in the Digital EraAdrian J. Ebsary
The document discusses several trends and technologies that could impact the future of higher education:
1. Emerging technologies like virtual and augmented reality, learning analytics, and artificial intelligence could facilitate new forms of distance learning and personalized education over the next 10-20 years.
2. Job disruption from automation raises questions about how education can prepare students for new types of work and promote equal access to opportunities.
3. Issues like funding, climate change impacts, and the relationship between universities and governments will influence how higher education is structured and delivered politically and economically in the coming decades.

The education system in the Netherlands has several stages. Preschool is optional for children ages 3-4 and focuses on play-based learning. Elementary school is compulsory for ages 4-12 and students are grouped by age or knowledge. Secondary education has three paths - pre-vocational education focused on technology and careers; senior general secondary education; and pre-university education preparing students for higher education. Higher education includes universities of applied sciences and research universities offering bachelor's and master's degrees, as well as an Open University for adult learners. The Netherlands' education system emphasizes more choices for students, attention to individual abilities, practical work experience, and schooling through age 18.

Key Characteristics of Strong Vocational SystemsEduSkills OECD
Key characteristics of strong vocational systems include developing vocational programs through partnerships with employers and unions, integrating work-based learning into all programs, and offering flexible options for adult learners. Strong systems provide pathways for progression from initial vocational qualifications to higher-level programs, have quality apprenticeship opportunities, and develop qualifications with input from industry to ensure they meet labor market needs. Effective career guidance, data on outcomes, and consistent funding are also important supporting conditions.

TESDA is the leading government agency in the Philippines responsible for technical education and skills development. Its mission is to provide quality technical education and skills training programs. All technical-vocational programs must be registered with TESDA under the Unified TVET Program Registration and Accreditation System. TESDA has developed training regulations for sectors such as agriculture, automotive, construction, electronics, and tourism. However, only two regulations related to carpentry were developed for the construction sector. The document recommends using inputs from the workshop to develop training regulations for bamboo skills.

The document discusses improving youth employment in Europe through better matching of vocational education and training to labor market needs. It focuses on two areas: 1) Ensuring training is informed by labor market intelligence so it is responsive to economic and social changes. This requires partnership between education, employers, and other stakeholders. 2) Ensuring quality in transnational mobility programs by preparing participants, recognizing skills gained, and involving employers. A survey found mobility increased employability, career choices, and language skills, but programs need better design and longer durations.

What is ‘Skills beyond School’?
An OECD policy review of postsecondary vocational education and training
The overall aim: - to help countries meet labour market needs more effectively
It is a ‘thematic’ review, meaning that it takes a theme (in this case postsecondary VET) and looks at it both in cross-country comparison and in individual country studies
How will the work be done?
By drawing together information, statistics and research from many countries to compare countries.
By countries preparing background reports, reporting on their own arrangements for postsecondary VET.
Through individual country reviews, with published reports appraising country systems, with policy recommendations.
By drawing all this experience together in a final comparative report.
IRJET- Placement Recommender and EvaluatorIRJET Journal
This document describes a proposed student placement recommender and evaluator system. The system would allow students to create profiles, companies to view student resumes, and an admin to moderate the system. It would assess student aptitude through tests and compatibility with domains. Machine learning algorithms like decision trees would analyze student data like marks and skills to predict placement and recommend domains. The system aims to help students, companies, and colleges by facilitating the placement process and providing career guidance to students.
Canada-Caribbean-Central America Partnership Forummaymayli
The document summarizes a presentation given by the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC) to a Canada-Caribbean-Central America partnership forum. The ACCC represents over 150 post-secondary institutions across Canada. It discusses opportunities for collaboration between Canadian colleges and institutions in the Caribbean and Central America, including partnerships in areas like distance education, applied research, and helping international institutions better meet labor market needs through competency-based training and employer partnerships.
A Skills beyond School Review of Egypt examines what type of training is needed to meet the needs of a changing economy, how programmes should be funded, how they should be linked to academic and university programmes, and how employers and unions can be engaged. The country reviews in the series form part of Skills beyond School, the OECD policy review of postsecondary vocational education and training.

Andreas Schleicher, Director of Education and Skills at the OECD presents at the launch of PISA 2022 Volume III - Creative Minds, Creative Schools on 18 June 2024.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has revolutionized the creation of images and videos, enabling the generation of highly realistic and imaginative visual content. Utilizing advanced techniques like Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) and neural style transfer, AI can transform simple sketches into detailed artwork or blend various styles into unique visual masterpieces. GANs, in particular, function by pitting two neural networks against each other, resulting in the production of remarkably lifelike images. AI's ability to analyze and learn from vast datasets allows it to create visuals that not only mimic human creativity but also push the boundaries of artistic expression, making it a powerful tool in digital media and entertainment industries.

Focus on selected occupational areas
The occupational area is important in VET and in the labour
market.
The occupational area comprises a student population
which is large enough to come to reliable and valid
judgments on important parts of VET and the labour market.
The occupational area is of significant economic and societal
importance and is likely to remain so.
The occupational area requires mainly professional (VET)
skills.
The occupational area is sufficiently comparable at the
international level.
Resources are available to support measurement of skills in
the occupational area (e.g. internationally validated task
inventories and simulation environments).
The occupational area has strategic importance in relation
to the digital and/or green transformation.
The occupational area represents both male and female
learners.
