This document analyzes the seismic performance of a vertically irregular 20-story reinforced concrete framed structure with and without X-bracing and bundled tubes. The structure is analyzed using STAAD PRO software for zones III, IV, and V with hard soil. Results show that adding X-bracing and bundled tubes increases base shear by up to 45.5% and reduces displacement by up to 47.4%, indicating increased strength and stiffness. Maximum base shear and least displacement occurred in zone III, suggesting it provides the best seismic performance. Therefore, using X-bracing and bundled tubes can effectively resist lateral seismic forces in tall, vertically irregular structures.

This document presents the results of an experimental analysis of a model plane building frame supported by pile groups embedded in sand. Static load tests were performed on a frame without a plinth beam and with conventional and varying thickness plinth beams. Results found that displacements, rotations, shear forces, and moments in the frame were reduced due to soil interaction. Shear force and bending moment values from experiments showed considerable reduction compared to conventional analysis which ignores soil-structure interaction. As the rigidity of the plinth beam decreased, the shear force and bending moment also decreased, emphasizing the need to consider soil-structure interaction and use of less rigid plinth beams in analysis and design of such structures.
Effect of infill walls on the seismic performance of the multistoried buildingseSAT Journals
Abstract The most commonly used structural system in our country for almost all types of building are multi-storey reinforced concrete frames with masonry infills. Therefore it is essential to understand the seismic behaviour of these structures when subjected to lateral forces. Several research works has been done on the masonry infilled reinforced concrete frames in the past decades. Mortar is used as a binder in normal brick construction in order to create continuous structural form and to bind together the individual units in brickwork. In the present study, analysis has been carried out by considering the increase in height of building from five to ten storied by using finite element software ANSYS 14.5. The seismic analysis of multi-storeyed building frames with infill walls and without infill walls are conducted. 3D analysis will give more realistic values of deflection and stresses. Since this type of study is not feasible in terms of analysis time taken, 2D model was adopted for the present study. A three bay two dimensional building frame is considered with the number of stories varying from 5 storied to 10 storied. The loading applied is as per IS 1893 (Part I): 2002. Equivalent diagonal strut method is adopted for modelling infill walls. The results showed that there is considerable decrease in deflection when infills are used in RC frames. Key Words: Deflection , Equivalent diagonal strut method, lateral load, Solid brick infills, Storey drift

Effect of modeling of infill walls on performance of multi story rc buildingIAEME Publication
This document summarizes a study on the effect of modeling masonry infill walls in multi-story reinforced concrete buildings. Three models of an 8-story building were analyzed: a bare frame, a frame with infill excluding the ground floor to create a soft story, and a frame with full infill. Nonlinear static pushover analysis was performed on the models. The results showed that modeling full infill improved seismic performance by increasing base shear and stiffness, distributing plastic hinges elastically throughout the structure. The bare frame and soft-story structure had plastic hinges form in the life safety to collapse prevention range, indicating poorer performance, while the full infill structure remained elastic. Therefore, modeling infill walls more

Analysis of Soil-Structure Interaction Mechanisms on Integral Abutment BridgeIRJET Journal
This document analyzes soil-structure interaction mechanisms on integral abutment bridges through 3D finite element modeling. The modeling assesses vertical displacement and bending behavior of pile foundations and main girders in different soil types (dense sand, medium sand, stiff clay, soft clay) under static loads. Results show that pile displacement is within permissible limits in dense and medium sand but exceeds limits in soft clay. Girder displacement is within code limits for all soils except soft clay. Bending moment and stress in pile foundations increase from dense to soft soils. The analysis provides insights into how soil properties influence the structural performance of integral bridges.

MODELLING OF AN INFILL WALL FOR THE ANALYSIS OF A BUILDING FRAME SUBJECTED TO...IAEME Publication
In general the analysis of a building frame is carried out with a bare frame but the presence of masonry infill in a framed structure results in high stiffness and influence the distribution of lateral load and also the response of the framed buildings. It can be noted that there is a large variation of mechanical properties of bricks. Masonry, a combination of brick and mortar, behaves in a highly nonlinear manner. The infill panel needs to be modelled in the analysis of a structural frame subjected to lateral load to obtain its true behaviour. In order to model the masonry infill, its properties required. In order to determine the properties of brick masonry compression tests were conducted on masonry infill panels and prisms.
Finite Element Modeling On Behaviour Of Reinforced Concrete Beam Column Joint...IJERA Editor
Recent earthquakes have demonstrated that most of the reinforced concrete structures were severely damaged during earthquakes and they need major repair works. Beam column joints, being the lateral and vertical load resisting members in reinforced concrete structures are particularly vulnerable to failures during earthquakes. The existing reinforced concrete beam column joints which are not designed as per code IS13920:1993 must be strengthened since they do not meet the ductility requirements. The Finite element method (FEM) has become a staple for predicting and simulating the physical behaviour of complex engineering systems. The commercial finite element analysis (FEA) programs have gained common acceptance among engineers in industry and researchers. The details of the finite element analysis of beam column joints retrofitted with carbon fibre reinforced polymer sheets (CFRP) carried out using the package ANSYS are presented in this paper. Three exterior reinforced concrete beam column joint specimens were modelled using ANSYS package. The first specimen is the control specimen. This had reinforcement as per code IS 456:2000. The second specimen which is also the control specimen. This had reinforcement as per code IS 13920:1993. The third specimen had reinforcement as per code IS 456:2000 and was retrofitted with carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets. During the analysis both the ends of column were hinged. Static load was applied at the free end of the cantilever beam up to a controlled load. The performance of the retrofitted beam column joint was compared with the control specimens and the results are presented in this paper.
This document presents the results of a pushover analysis conducted on 9 structural models with varying plan irregularities. The models were analyzed using ETABS software to determine key parameters such as lateral displacement, story drift, base shear, and performance point. The results show that structures with complex geometries experience greater lateral displacement, story drift, and base shear compared to regular structures. Pushover curves indicate that irregular structures may not achieve desired performance levels at lower displacement thresholds. In conclusion, simple and regular building geometries perform better during earthquakes by attracting fewer seismic forces.

This document reviews research on analyzing reinforced concrete (RC) frame structures with fully, partially, and no masonry infill walls in different seismic zones of India. It discusses how infill walls can increase structural strength, stiffness, and seismic resistance by interacting with the RC frame. The document summarizes several studies that found infill walls reduce displacements, drifts, and bending moments in frames while increasing base shear and axial column forces. It proposes analyzing an RC frame building with and without infill walls using the STAAD PRO software to understand how infill walls affect seismic response. The methodology section outlines steps for modeling the structure and applying loads and seismic analysis.
IRJET- Study of Literature on Seismic Response of RC Irregular StructureIRJET Journal
The document discusses vertical irregularities in reinforced concrete (RC) buildings and their effects on seismic response. It first defines vertical irregularities as weaknesses caused by discontinuities in mass, stiffness, or geometry between storeys. Soft stories, where the stiffness suddenly decreases, are one type of vertical irregularity. The document then reviews several previous studies on modeling and analyzing vertically irregular buildings using pushover analysis, which incrementally loads a structure to determine its failure mechanisms. The studies found that soft story buildings absorb energy through overturning and shear deformation. Irregular buildings may have similar seismic performance to regular buildings if properly designed. Quantifying the degree of irregularity can help evaluate seismic vulnerability and retrofitting needs.

Pushover analysis of rc frame structure with floating column and soft story i...eSAT Journals
Abstract Open first story and Floating column are typical features in the modern multi-storey constructions in urban India. Such features are highly undesirable in buildings built in seismically active areas; this has been verified in numerous experiences of strong shaking during the past earthquakes like Bhuj 2001. In this study an attempt is made to reveal the effects of floating column & soft story in different earthquake zones by seismic analysis. For this purpose Push over analysis is adopted because this analysis will yield performance level of building for design capacity (displacement) carried out up to failure, it helps determination of collapse load and ductility capacity of the structure. To achieve this objective, three RC bare frame structures with G+4, G+9, G+15 stories respectively will be analysed and compared the base force and displacement of RC bare frame structure with G+4, G+9, G+15 stories in different earthquake zones like Rajkot, Jamnagar and Bhuj using SAP 2000 14 analysis package. Keywords: - floating column, soft story, pushover analysis, earthquake resistant structure
Behaviour of Flat Slab by Varying Stiffness in High Seismic ZoneIRJET Journal
This document summarizes a study on analyzing the behavior of flat slab structures with varying stiffness in high seismic zones. Various flat plate and flat slab models with different configurations of shear walls and steel bracings were analyzed using ETABS software for 10, 15, and 20-story buildings. The models were subjected to dead, live, and earthquake loads as per Indian codes. Key parameters like natural period, base shear, storey displacement, and drift were compared. Results show that shear walls are more effective than steel bracings at reducing displacements. Flat slab models with shear walls at the core and periphery performed best with minimum displacement and drift. Increasing the height of buildings leads to higher displacements indicating the need for shear walls
Significance of shear wall in flat slab multi storied building - A ReviewIRJET Journal
This document summarizes research on the significance of shear walls in flat slab multi-story buildings. It begins with an abstract discussing the increased use of flat slab construction in tall buildings and how shear walls provide stability against lateral loads like wind and earthquakes. The document then reviews the theoretical background of flat slab construction and shear walls as bracing methods. It also summarizes several previous studies examining the effects of openings in shear walls, use of flat slabs in seismic zones, and different shear wall configurations. The literature review found that shear walls can effectively resist lateral loads and reduce displacement, with exterior corner placements performing best.
