The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national level exam that tests undergraduate subjects in engineering and science. It is conducted jointly by IISc and 7 IITs on behalf of MHRD. The GATE score is used for admissions to postgraduate programs in engineering institutes with MHRD financial assistance. It is also used by public sector companies for recruiting engineers. GATE contains 65 questions over 3 hours in an online computer-based format, with multiple choice and numerical answer types.
