Dysfunctional teams often become apparent too late to rectify the problem. We will showcase a multifaceted approach to supporting students in complex team projects in two large (1200+) First-Year Engineering design and build courses at the University of Queensland. The PETS (Proactively Ensuring Team Success) process systematically utilises learning analytics from in-house LTI tools and Blackboard Learn for strategic intervention to support student teams. Thailand – Equitable Education Fund – Kraiyos Patrawart

The OECD London Conference 2016-2017 program involved 1,500 students and 60 teachers from 60 experimental schools in 10 provinces. Teachers received a one term intervention training focusing on creativity and critical thinking. The program had positive impacts, improving students' and teachers' perceptions of creativity and critical thinking. Students reported positive responses to new teaching and learning activities, and Thai students showed strong improvement in divergent thinking. The Ministry of Education of Thailand has expanded its support of the program over three years, increasing participating schools to 400 and education supervisors to support national scaling up.

1) A librarian and academic worked together to overhaul the teaching component of a skills module due to disappointing feedback and disengaged students. They reworked lectures, introduced new activities like polling and role playing, and developed online worksheets and a reflective diary. 2) A post-module survey found students' self-assessed skill levels and understanding of concepts like plagiarism had improved. However, not all students completed the reflective diary and some preferred hands-on workshops over online materials. 3) Going forward, the librarian and academic will refine the lecture style changes, develop the online materials further, and survey next year's students to continue improving the module.

An overview of the steps for recording, editing, captioning, video in YouTube will be provided as well as examples shared for various approaches for seamlessly incorporating video into any online course. Districts today are trying to increase student engagement in order to ultimately increase student achievement. North Kansas City School District (NKCSD) shares how the district uses online learning in the classroom and beyond to provide a personalized and connected learning experience. They discussed how their districts have seen growth in online learning opportunities, with Roseville seeing over 400 teachers now using blended learning approaches and LAUSD growing from under 1,000 online course enrollments in 2009-10 to over 3,900 currently. Introducing the PASS program: Pre-arrival success strategies for students

PASS (Pre-Arrival Success Strategies) is a free online course for students who will be studying with the International College of Manitoba (ICM) in subsequent terms. The course is designed for students who wish to get a head start on their studies. The course is led by ICM alumni who mentor prospective students in navigating the complexities of their new education system. Units are delivered over five weeks and cover a variety of topics, including overviewing the learning management system (Moodle), connecting students with their future classmates, understanding essential elements of course outlines, planning for weekly and term schedules, introducing concepts of academic integrity, and more. Students have flexibility in choosing which units they wish to complete as they accumulate points for each assessment completed - students who complete various achievements earn various rewards. In these slides, Robert Daudet reviews the course content, shares lessons learned from its first iteration, and reveals what's next for the course.

While more than two-thirds of states already conduct some kind of statewide online assessments, the new assessments of the Common Core State Standards from PARCC and Smarter Balanced are increasing both interest and anxiety in school districts. To help relieve the anxiety, SETDA has created a series of case studies Implementing Online Assessments: Pathways to Success (assessmentstudies.setda.org), with a narrative and resources. Each narrative provides an in-depth look at what it took a district to implement the assessments as well as key factors in each state’s approach to infrastructure and training and communication. There also are downloadable resources that range from training agendas to checklists for technology readiness to sample letters from the state to school districts. This document discusses scrapping levels in assessment and implementing a growth and threshold model. Key points: 1) Levels focus on pace not depth, and different interpretations exist. Successful systems don't use levels. 2) The growth and threshold model identifies big ideas and excellence in subjects. Formative assessment focuses on feedback, and summative assessments track progress against thresholds three times per year. 3) This new system celebrates the progress of all students and identifies those below expectations to provide intervention. It has increased challenge but response has been positive with a focus on growth mindset.
