Within the last few years, there has been notable progress in understanding the growth mechanisms of semiconductor thin films for photovoltaic (PV) applications. Electrodeposition continues to be a complex deposition technique that can lead to regions of low quality (for example, cracks) in films. Such cracks can form porous zones on the substrate and diminish the heterojunction interface quality of a PV cell. In this paper, electrodeposition of In2S3 films was systematically and quantitatively investigated by varying electrodeposition parameters including bath composition, current density, deposition time, and deposition temperature. Their effects upon the morphology, composition, and film growth mechanism were studied with the help of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and digital imaging analysis (using fracture and buckling analysis software). In addition, the effect of different annealing treatments (200 oC, 300 oC, and 400 oC in air) and coated glass-substrates (Mo, ITO, and FTO) upon the properties of the In2S3 films was analyzed. Furthermore, the Taguchi/Design of Experiments (DOE) Method was used to determine the optimal electrodeposition parameters in order to improve the properties.

"The current world is witnessing the construction of challenging and innovative civil engineering structures. It has been established that when fibers are added in certain percentage to the concrete improves the strength properties as well as crack resistance and ductility. Fibers impart energy absorption, toughness and impact resistance properties to fiber reinforced concrete material and these characteristics in turn improve the strength properties. In the present experimental investigation the alkali resistant glass fiber of diameter 14 micron, length 24mm, having an aspect ratio of 855 was employed in percentage varying from 0, 10 , 20 , 30 , 50 , 60 and 80 to study the effect on compressive, split tensile and flexural strength on M40 grade concrete. At early age strength, the concrete with more than 20 of glass fiber gain strength around 61 until 82 faster than normal concrete. This document describes a new method for fabricating all-polystyrene microfluidic devices with integrated electrodes and tubing. The method involves solvent-based etching of channels in a polystyrene base containing embedded electrodes and tubing. A polystyrene cover is then bonded using lamination, without requiring a cleanroom. The resulting all-polystyrene devices are characterized through microscopy and electrophoretic experiments. Microchip-based assays demonstrate detection limits of 130 nM for dopamine and 1.8 mM for nitric oxide using the integrated electrodes.

Thermal conductivity of three different wood products of combretaceae familyAlexander Decker
This study examined the thermal conductivity and behavior of three wood species from the Combretaceae family - Terminalia superb, Terminalia ivorensis, and Quisqualis indica. Samples were tested using a modified Lee's disk method at different temperature and time intervals. The results showed that thermal agitation increased with temperature until stability was reached after around 105 minutes. Thermal equilibrium was achieved faster during decreasing temperatures. Terminalia superb exhibited the highest thermal conductivity and agitation, followed by Terminalia ivorensis, with Quisqualis indica showing the lowest. The thermal conductivity values for all samples fell within the typical range of 0.1-0.8 Wm-1K-1 for wood materials
Preparation and Characterization of Lithium Ion Conducting Solid Polymer Elec...IJERA Editor
Solid Polymer electrolyte films have been prepared from Starch-Poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) blend a well acknowledged biodegradable material. Solution cast technique was employed for the preparation of solid polymer electrolyte films added with Lithium Bromide (LiBr) salt. X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies of the prepared films portrayed the evolution of an amorphous structure with increasing content of salt which is an important factor that leads to the augmentation of conductivity. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopic analysis revealed noticeable ionic conductivity ~ 5x 10-3 S/cm for 20 wt% of salt at ambient conditions. Ionic conductivity showed an increasing trend with salt content at ambient conditions. Transference number measurements confirmed the ionic nature of the prepared solid polymer electrolyte films. Dielectric studies revealed a sharp increase in the number of charge carriers which contributed to enhancement in conductivity. Low values of activation energy extracted from temperature dependent conductivity measurements could be favorable for device applications. For the composition with highest conductivity a temperature independent relaxation mechanism was confirmed by electric modulus scaling.

The researchers deposited gold films on one half of silicon substrates and gold-germanium bilayer films on the other half. This study characterized the stiffness and cytotoxicity of poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEG-DA) hydrogels for retinal tissue engineering applications. Various PEG-DA hydrogels with different molecular weights and concentrations were tested mechanically, and their effects on retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cell viability were evaluated. The results showed that stiffer hydrogels with Young's moduli similar to a healthy eye tissue supported greater RPE cell viability. Specifically, a 10kDa PEG-DA hydrogel with 2X concentration maintained higher RPE cell viability after 1 day. Future work will involve incorporating a higher concentration of cell adhesion peptides and evaluating stem cell differentiation on the hydrogel scaffolds.
This dissertation investigates the mechanical characterization of coating-interconnect interfaces and anode-electrolyte interfaces in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). In the first part, four-point bend experiments are used to characterize the adhesion of manganese cobalt spinel oxide (MCO) coatings applied to metallic interconnects. Results include interfacial shear strength and fracture energy calculations to analyze failure mechanisms and compare coatings processed with different parameters. In the second part, anode-electrolyte interface fracture energies are obtained from four-point bend tests of NiO-YSZ anode and ScSZ electrolyte bi-layers. This document discusses a study on the fatigue analysis of glass fiber reinforced composites. It describes how glass fiber reinforced epoxy laminate composite samples were manufactured using vacuum bagging technique. The samples were then cut and tested under varying cyclic loads on a fatigue testing machine. drying or decontamination process was carried out. Physical and chemical properties of DMS material were
determined. All the materials used in the concrete were selected and tested as per the standard procedures of the
Indian standards. A unique design mix will be done based on the entire material test results. Different mixtures
were produced using DMS in different proportions from 15% to 100% as per the finalized trial of the design
mix. The concrete were submitted to compressive strength testsafter 7, 28 and 90 days of moist curing, as well
as flexure and splitting tensile strength tests for M-25 grade.
Optical Properties of Nanostructured Cerium Oxide Thin Films by Pulsed Laser ...IRJET Journal
Cerium oxide thin films were deposited on quartz substrates using pulsed laser deposition. X-ray diffraction was used to characterize the structural properties of the films deposited at different substrate temperatures. The film deposited at 303K was amorphous, while the film deposited at 523K was quasi-crystalline. Increasing the substrate temperature to 923K resulted in a polycrystalline film. Optical properties were studied using UV-visible spectroscopy, which showed the films were highly transparent in the visible region with low reflectance in ultraviolet. Band gap was found to decrease with increasing film thickness.

Properties of electrodeposited semiconductor thin films are dependent upon the electrolyte composition, plating time, and temperature as well as the current density and the nature of the substrate. In this study, the influence of electrodeposition parameters such as deposition voltage, deposition time, composition of solution, and deposition temperature upon the properties of In2S3 films were analyzed by the Taguchi Method. According to Taguchi analysis, the interaction between deposition voltage and deposition time was significant. Deposition voltage had the most impact upon the stoichiometry of In2S3 films and deposition temperature had the least impact. The stochiometric ratios between sulfur and indium (S/In : 3/2) obtained from experiments performed with optimized electrodeposition paramters were in agreement with predicted values from the Taguchi Method. The experiments were carried-out according to Taguchi Orthogonal Array L27 (3^4) Design of Experiments (DOE). Approximately 600 nm-thick In2S3 films were electrodeposited from an organic bath (ethylene glycol-based) containing indium chloride (InCl3), sodium chloride (NaCl), and sodium thiosulfate (Na2S2O3.5H2O), the latter used as an additional sulfur source along with elemental sulfur (S). An X-ray diffractometer (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) unit, and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were respectively used to analyze the phases, elemental composition, and morphology of the electrodeposited In2S3 films.

This document describes a new method for fabricating all-polystyrene microfluidic devices with integrated electrodes and tubing. The method involves solvent-based etching of channels in a polystyrene base containing embedded electrodes and tubing. A polystyrene cover is then bonded using lamination, without requiring a cleanroom. The resulting all-polystyrene devices are characterized through microscopy and electrophoretic experiments. Microchip-based assays demonstrate detection limits of 130 nM for dopamine and 1.8 mM for nitric oxide using the integrated electrodes.

This study examined the thermal conductivity and behavior of three wood species from the Combretaceae family - Terminalia superb, Terminalia ivorensis, and Quisqualis indica. Samples were tested using a modified Lee's disk method at different temperature and time intervals. The results showed that thermal agitation increased with temperature until stability was reached after around 105 minutes. Thermal equilibrium was achieved faster during decreasing temperatures. Terminalia superb exhibited the highest thermal conductivity and agitation, followed by Terminalia ivorensis, with Quisqualis indica showing the lowest. The thermal conductivity values for all samples fell within the typical range of 0.1-0.8 Wm-1K-1 for wood materials

Solid Polymer electrolyte films have been prepared from Starch-Poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) blend a well acknowledged biodegradable material. Solution cast technique was employed for the preparation of solid polymer electrolyte films added with Lithium Bromide (LiBr) salt. X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies of the prepared films portrayed the evolution of an amorphous structure with increasing content of salt which is an important factor that leads to the augmentation of conductivity. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopic analysis revealed noticeable ionic conductivity ~ 5x 10-3 S/cm for 20 wt% of salt at ambient conditions. Ionic conductivity showed an increasing trend with salt content at ambient conditions. Transference number measurements confirmed the ionic nature of the prepared solid polymer electrolyte films. Dielectric studies revealed a sharp increase in the number of charge carriers which contributed to enhancement in conductivity. Low values of activation energy extracted from temperature dependent conductivity measurements could be favorable for device applications. For the composition with highest conductivity a temperature independent relaxation mechanism was confirmed by electric modulus scaling.

The researchers deposited gold films on one half of silicon substrates and gold-germanium bilayer films on the other half. This study characterized the stiffness and cytotoxicity of poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEG-DA) hydrogels for retinal tissue engineering applications. Various PEG-DA hydrogels with different molecular weights and concentrations were tested mechanically, and their effects on retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cell viability were evaluated. The results showed that stiffer hydrogels with Young's moduli similar to a healthy eye tissue supported greater RPE cell viability. Specifically, a 10kDa PEG-DA hydrogel with 2X concentration maintained higher RPE cell viability after 1 day. Future work will involve incorporating a higher concentration of cell adhesion peptides and evaluating stem cell differentiation on the hydrogel scaffolds.
This dissertation investigates the mechanical characterization of coating-interconnect interfaces and anode-electrolyte interfaces in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). In the first part, four-point bend experiments are used to characterize the adhesion of manganese cobalt spinel oxide (MCO) coatings applied to metallic interconnects. Results include interfacial shear strength and fracture energy calculations to analyze failure mechanisms and compare coatings processed with different parameters. In the second part, anode-electrolyte interface fracture energies are obtained from four-point bend tests of NiO-YSZ anode and ScSZ electrolyte bi-layers. This document discusses a study on the fatigue analysis of glass fiber reinforced composites. It describes how glass fiber reinforced epoxy laminate composite samples were manufactured using vacuum bagging technique. The samples were then cut and tested under varying cyclic loads on a fatigue testing machine. The results showed that the glass fiber reinforced composites could withstand fatigue loads efficiently compared to aluminum and the number of cycles before failure decreased as the applied load increased. drying or decontamination process was carried out. Physical and chemical properties of DMS material were
determined. All the materials used in the concrete were selected and tested as per the standard procedures of the
Indian standards. A unique design mix will be done based on the entire material test results. Different mixtures
were produced using DMS in different proportions from 15% to 100% as per the finalized trial of the design
mix. The concrete were submitted to compressive strength testsafter 7, 28 and 90 days of moist curing, as well
as flexure and splitting tensile strength tests for M-25 grade.
Optical Properties of Nanostructured Cerium Oxide Thin Films by Pulsed Laser ...IRJET Journal
Cerium oxide thin films were deposited on quartz substrates using pulsed laser deposition. X-ray diffraction was used to characterize the structural properties of the films deposited at different substrate temperatures. The film deposited at 303K was amorphous, while the film deposited at 523K was quasi-crystalline. Increasing the substrate temperature to 923K resulted in a polycrystalline film. Optical properties were studied using UV-visible spectroscopy, which showed the films were highly transparent in the visible region with low reflectance in ultraviolet. Band gap was found to decrease with increasing film thickness.

Energy dispersive x-ray analysis was used to analyze the film composition and showed the films contained cadmium, sulfur, and oxygen. Electrical resistivity measurements using the four-probe method found the films had high resistivity on the order of 10-6 cm. Thermal activation energy increased with increasing film thickness from 0.6345 eV to 0.7095 eV. In conclusion, CdS thin films were successfully deposited and their composition and semiconducting electrical properties were characterized.

Abstract Pure and Ni2+ added glycine sodium sulfate (GSS) single crystals were grown by the slow evaporation technique and characterized chemically, structurally, thermally, optically, mechanically and electrically. Effect of Ni2+ addition as an impurity on the properties of GSS has also been investigated. All the six crystals grown exhibit normal dielectric behavior and are found to be thermally stable up to 250˚C, NLO active and mechanically soft. The Ni2+ addition is found to increase the dielectric parameters. The low dielectric constant values observed for pure GSS indicate that GSS is not only a promising NLO material but also a low dielectric constant value dielectric material. Abstract
Natural dyes obtained from plants, vegetables and fruits are widely studied and tested as low cost sensitizer for dye sensitized solar cell ( DSSC) in order to replace the rare and expensive inorganic and organic sensitizers. Although, many works have been done using TiO2, ZrO2, ZnO etc. as the nanoporous semiconductor, little importance was given to the use of CdS thin film as a cost effective alternative. In the present study CdS thin films were synthesized by chemical bath deposition (CBD) technique and its optical, structural and morphological properties were investigated by XRD, SEM and UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy. The as synthesized films were found to be nanoporous in nature and are favorable for adsorbing the dyes on to its surface. Two natural dyes extracted from locally available plant leaves namely lawsonia inermis linn and caesalpinia pulcherrima were then adsorbed on the as synthesized CdS thin films for the formation of the working electrode for application in DSSC. The interaction between the nanoporous CdS thin films and the natural dyes were investigated through UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy with an aim to fabricate working electrode for application in DSSC.

This document summarizes the growth and characterization of cadmium sulfide (CdS) doped potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) single crystals. Six crystals were grown - pure KDP and KDP doped with varying amounts of CdS nanoparticles. The crystals were characterized through techniques such as X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, thermal analysis, optical transmission measurements, and electrical measurements. CdS thin films were deposited on glass substrates at optimized deposition parameters. X-ray diffraction was used to characterize the structural properties of single-layer CdS films on glass and multilayer films with polyaniline deposited on CdS/glass. The x-ray patterns showed the CdS films had a preferred orientation along the (100) reflection plane and the multilayer films had a preferred orientation of the hexagonal wurtzite structure.

UV–vis absorption spectra measurement indicated that the band gap of as-synthesized CZTS was about1.68 eV, which was near the optimum value for photovoltaic solar conversion in a single-band-gap device. Background and Objective Telehealth has become a well known tool for the delivery of health care in Saudi Arabia, and the perspective and knowledge of healthcare providers are influential in the implementation, adoption and advancement of the method. This systematic review was conducted to examine the current literature base regarding telehealth and the related healthcare professional perspective and knowledge in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Materials and Methods This systematic review was conducted by searching 7 databases including, MEDLINE, CINHAL, Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, PsycINFO, and ProQuest Central. Studies on healthcare practitioners telehealth knowledge and perspectives published in English in Saudi Arabia from 2000 to 2023 were included. Boland directed this comprehensive review. The researchers examined each connected study using the AXIS tool, which evaluates cross sectional systematic reviews. Narrative synthesis was used to summarise and convey the data. Results Out of 1840 search results, 10 studies were included. Positive outlook and limited knowledge among providers were seen across trials. Healthcare professionals like telehealth for its ability to improve quality, access, and delivery, save time and money, and be successful. Age, gender, occupation, and work experience also affect health workers knowledge. In Saudi Arabia, healthcare professionals face inadequate expert assistance, patient privacy, internet connection concerns, lack of training courses, lack of telehealth understanding, and high costs while performing telemedicine. Conclusions Healthcare practitioners telehealth perceptions and knowledge were examined in this systematic study. Its collection of concerned experts different personal attitudes and expertise would help enhance telehealths implementation in Saudi Arabia, develop its healthcare delivery alternative, and eliminate frequent problems. This research investigates the nexus between online discussions on Dr. B.R. Ambedkars ideals and their impact on social inclusion among college students in Gurugram, Haryana. Surveying 240 students from 12 government colleges, findings indicate that 65 actively engage in online discussions, with 80 demonstrating moderate to high awareness of Ambedkars ideals. Statistically significant correlations reveal that higher online engagement correlates with increased awareness p 0.05 and perceived social inclusion. Variations across colleges and a notable effect of college type on perceived social inclusion highlight the influence of contextual factors. Furthermore, the intersectional analysis underscores nuanced differences based on gender, caste, and socio economic status. Corporate disclosure is done through publishing annual reports. So corporate disclosure through annual reports plays a vital role in the life of all the companies and provides valuable information to investors. The basic objectives of corporate disclosure is to give a true and fair view of companies to the parties related either directly or indirectly like owner, government, creditors, shareholders etc. in the companies act, provisions have been made about mandatory and voluntary disclosure. The IT sector in India is rapidly growing, the trend to invest in the IT sector is rising and employment opportunities in IT sectors are also increasing. Therefore the IT sector is expected to have fair, full and adequate disclosure of all information. Unfair and incomplete disclosure may adversely affect the entire economy. The Role of Mentoring and Its Influence on the Effectiveness of the Teaching ...ijtsrd
This paper reports on a study which was conducted to investigate the role of mentoring and its influence on the effectiveness of the teaching of Physics in secondary schools in the South West Region of Cameroon. The study adopted the convergent parallel mixed methods design, focusing on respondents in secondary schools in the South West Region of Cameroon. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected, analysed separately, and the results were compared to see if the findings confirm or disconfirm each other. The quantitative analysis found that majority of the respondents 72 of Physics teachers affirmed that they had more experienced colleagues as mentors to help build their confidence, improve their teaching, and help them improve their effectiveness and efficiency in guiding learners’ achievements. Only 28 of the respondents disagreed with these statements. With majority respondents 72 agreeing with the statements, it implies that in most secondary schools, experienced Physics teachers act as mentors to build teachers’ confidence in teaching and improving students’ learning. The interview qualitative data analysis summarized how secondary school Principals use meetings with mentors and mentees to promote mentorship in the school milieu. This has helped strengthen teachers’ classroom practices in secondary schools in the South West Region of Cameroon. With the results confirming each other, the study recommends that mentoring should focus on helping teachers employ social interactions and instructional practices feedback and clarity in teaching that have direct measurable impact on students’ learning achievements. Design Simulation and Hardware Construction of an Arduino Microcontroller Bas...ijtsrd
This study primarily focuses on the design of a high side buck converter using an Arduino microcontroller. The converter is specifically intended for use in DC DC applications, particularly in standalone solar PV systems where the PV output voltage exceeds the load or battery voltage. To evaluate the performance of the converter, simulation experiments are conducted using Proteus Software. These simulations provide insights into the input and output voltages, currents, powers, and efficiency under different state of charge SoC conditions of a 12V,70Ah rechargeable lead acid battery. Additionally, the hardware design of the converter is implemented, and practical data is collected through operation, monitoring, and recording. By comparing the simulation results with the practical results, the efficiency and performance of the designed converter are assessed. The findings indicate that while the buck converter is suitable for practical use in standalone PV systems, its efficiency is compromised due to a lower output current. Energy becomes sustainable if it meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Some of the definitions of sustainable energy include the considerations of environmental aspects such as greenhouse gas emissions, social, and economic aspects such as energy poverty. Generally far more sustainable than fossil fuel are renewable energy sources such as wind, hydroelectric power, solar, and geothermal energy sources. Worthy of note is that some renewable energy projects, like the clearing of forests to produce biofuels, can cause severe environmental damage. The sustainability of nuclear power which is a low carbon source is highly debated because of concerns about radioactive waste, nuclear proliferation, and accidents. The switching from coal to natural gas has environmental benefits, including a lower climate impact, but could lead to delay in switching to more sustainable options. “Carbon capture and storage” can be built into power plants to remove the carbon dioxide CO2 emissions, but this technology is expensive and has rarely been implemented. Leading non renewable energy sources around the world is fossil fuels, coal, petroleum, and natural gas. Nuclear energy is usually considered another non renewable energy source, although nuclear energy itself is a renewable energy source, but the material used in nuclear power plants is not. This paper aims to outline the executive regulations, survey standards, and specifications required for the implementation of the Sudan Survey Act, and for regulating and organizing all surveying work activities in Sudan. The act has been discussed for more than 5 years. The Land Survey Act was initiated by the Sudan Survey Authority and all official legislations were headed by the Sudan Ministry of Justice till it was issued in 2022. The paper presents conceptual guidelines to be used for the Survey Act implementation and to regulate the survey work practice, standardizing the field surveys, processing, quality control, procedures, and the processes related to survey work carried out by the stakeholders and relevant authorities in Sudan. The conceptual guidelines are meant to improve the quality and harmonization of geospatial data and to aid decision making processes as well as geospatial information systems. The established comprehensive executive regulations will govern and regulate the implementation of the Sudan Survey Geomatics Act in all surveying and mapping practices undertaken by the Sudan Survey Authority SSA and state local survey departments for public or private sector organizations. The targeted standards and specifications include the reference frame, projection, coordinate systems, and the guidelines and specifications that must be followed in the field of survey work, processes, and mapping products. Towards the Implementation of the Sudan Interpolated Geoid Model Khartoum Sta...ijtsrd
The discussions between ellipsoid and geoid have invoked many researchers during the recent decades, especially during the GNSS technology era, which had witnessed a great deal of development but still geoid undulation requires more investigations. To figure out a solution for Sudans local geoid, this research has tried to intake the possibility of determining the geoid model by following two approaches, gravimetric and geometrical geoid model determination, by making use of GNSS leveling benchmarks at Khartoum state. The Benchmarks are well distributed in the study area, in which, the horizontal coordinates and the height above the ellipsoid have been observed by GNSS while orthometric heights were carried out using precise leveling. The Global Geopotential Model GGM represented in EGM2008 has been exploited to figure out the geoid undulation at the benchmarks in the study area. This is followed by a fitting process, that has been done to suit the geoid undulation data which has been computed using GNSS leveling data and geoid undulation inspired by the EGM2008. Two geoid surfaces were created after the fitting process to ensure that they are identical and both of them could be counted for getting the same geoid undulation with an acceptable accuracy. In this respect, statistical operation played an important role in ensuring the consistency and integrity of the model by applying cross validation techniques splitting the data into training and testing datasets for building the geoid model and testing its eligibility. The geometrical solution for geoid undulation computation has been utilized by applying straightforward equations that facilitate the calculation of the geoid undulation directly through applying statistical techniques for the GNSS leveling data of the study area to get the common equation parameters values that could be utilized to calculate geoid undulation of any position in the study area within the claimed accuracy. Sudan is witnessing an acceleration in the processes of development and transformation in the performance of government institutions to raise the productivity and investment efficiency of the government sector. The development plans and investment opportunities have focused on achieving national goals in various sectors. This paper aims to illuminate the path to the future and provide geospatial data and information to develop the investment climate and environment for all sized businesses, and to bridge the development gap between the Sudan states. The Sudan Survey Authority SSA is the main advisor to the Sudan Government in conducting surveying, mappings, designing, and developing systems related to geospatial data and information. In recent years, SSA made a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Investment to activate Geospatial Information for Sudans Sustainable Investment and in particular, for the preparation and implementation of the Sudan investment map, based on the directives and objectives of the Ministry of Investment MI in Sudan. The diversity of indigenous knowledge systems in India is vast and can vary significantly between different communities and regions. DeepMask Transforming Face Mask Identification for Better Pandemic Control in...ijtsrd
The COVID 19 pandemic has highlighted the crucial need of preventive measures, with widespread use of face masks being a key method for slowing the viruss spread. This research investigates face mask identification using deep learning as a technological solution to be reducing the risk of coronavirus transmission. The proposed method uses state of the art convolutional neural networks CNNs and transfer learning to automatically recognize persons who are not wearing masks in a variety of circumstances. We discuss how this strategy improves public health and safety by providing an efficient manner of enforcing mask wearing standards. Abstract: Most group II-VI compounds are direct band gap
semiconductors with high optical absorption and emission
coefficients .Cadmium Selenide is a leading candidate with high
potential towards many applications. The authors present their
investigations dealing with preparation and some electrical
characterization of the CdSe thin films. The films were deposited
onto a well-cleaned glass substrates using thermal evaporation
technique. The dependence of electrical resistivity of CdSe thin
film in low temperature range has been studied.

INTRODUCTION
Group II-VI compounds have been studied intensively recently
because of their potentials for wide range of applications. These
compounds has been studied in crystal as well as thin film form
.This is because large uniform areas would prove extremely
useful in the preparation of image intensifiers and photo voltaic
devices. Amongst these Group II-VI compounds Cadmium
Selenide (CdSe) is an important and most promising material .In
the much current research ,researchers are interested to
understand different properties of Cadmium Selenide from its
applications point of view such as thin film transistors[1],thin
film solar cells[2-3], photodetectors[4-5],heterojunction solar
cells[6] and various optoelectronic devices[7].Several methods
have been applied for the preparation of CdSe thin films such as
vacuum evaporation technique[8-10], chemical vapor
deposition[11], chemical deposition[12-15],SILAR method and
electrodeposition method[17-18].Much current research has
focused on electrical properties of CdSe thin films. The electrical
characterization of any material is very important because it
gives an idea about various important parameters related to the
material. On the basis of this ,in the present paper ,the authors
present their investigations on the preparation of CdSe thin films
and the effect of low temperature on the electrical resistivity of
the CdSe thin films.
EXPERIMENTAL
The deposition technique can be chosen depending upon the type
of material and its intended use for various applications. The
physical vapour deposition technique is the simplest and widely
used technique for deposition of semiconducting thin films. The
same technique i.e. the thermal evaporation technique has been
adopted here for the deposition of CdSe thin films.
Stoichiometric CdSe powder having purity around 99.99% was
kept in a molybdenum boat. Thin film of CdSe have been
deposited at a pressure better than 10-5
torr in a vacuum coating
unit (Hind High Vac, Bangalore, India).The deposition of the
thin films has been carried out on a pre-cleaned glass slides used
as the substrates. Prior to deposition, the glass slides were
cleaned with acetone which was followed by the washing with
distilled water. The thickness has been controlled during the
deposition process & measured using quartz crystal thickness
monitor. The thickness of the film has been found to be 3kÅ.
The variation in electrical resistivity with temperature in a low
temperature range has been investigated on CdSe thin films
using van der Pauw method. The contacts have been prepared
using silver paste. These investigations have been carried out
below room temperature using liquid N2 cryostat. The resistivity
has been measured within the temperature range from 223 K-300
K. The temperature was controlled and monitored using the
cryocontroller throughout the investigations.

RESULT AND DISCUSSION
CdSe thin films have been obtained in present investigations
using the physical vapour deposition technique having thickness
around 3000 Å. The thoroughly pre-cleaned micro glass slides
have been used as substrates. The van der Pauw method has
been used to study the behaviour of the electrical resistivity of
CdSe thin films at low temperature ranging from 223 K - 300
K. The experimental set up explained above has been used for
these investigations. The results obtained for CdSe thin films
apparently show that as the temperature decreases, the
resistivity increases, as expected according to the
semiconducting behaviour of cadmium selenide.

The graphical representation of the results has been shown in
Fig. 1 which is again depicting a non-linear behaviour. This
non-linear behaviour has also been attributed to the hopping
of carriers, the presence of exciton mechanism etc.
Moreover from this graph the activation energy of the charge
carriers has been calculated and has found to be around 0.1
eV within the range of temperature under investigations.
Besides this the nature of the graph clearly indicates that the
CdSe thin films prepared using thermal evaporation technique in
present investigations exhibits semiconducting behavior.
CONCLUSION
The present study indicates that the physical vapour deposition
technique can be successfully employed for the preparation of
CdSe thin films on glass substrates. CdSe thin films having
thickness 3kÅ in present investigations possess activation energy
0.1eV and shows a semiconducting behaviour at low temperature
range.
