We explore 8 myths regarding what admission professionals really understand about the media use and college search behavior of college-going teens. Mythbusting Websites: What Prospects Value About #HigherEd Websites (and What...mStoner, Inc.
Prospective students — especially teens — are a prime audience for a college website. But do we really know what teens are looking for when they visit your .edu? We designed, in partnership with mStoner, Inc. and Higher Ed Live, a survey asking teens to share their frank opinions of the college websites they’ve visited.
We asked them to tell us what they looked for on websites when they were researching colleges, choosing where to apply, and deciding which to attend. What did they like about the sites they visited? What was the most important content — and when was it important? What were the frustrations they experienced? What were the best sites they looked at? And they didn’t hold back.
Next, we sent the same survey to admission staff, web developers, designers, and marketers at colleges who were designing and redesigning websites for this key audience. We wanted to find out what they knew (or thought they knew) about what teens wanted.
The resulting presentation will explore where their perspectives converge — and where they differ — and how marketers can leverage this knowledge.

It’s most definitely alive, and going through quite a renaissance thanks to new tools, new personalities, and renewed attention to substance and style. As fatigue with the social media firehose grows, publishers are rediscovering the one-to-one intimacy of electronic mail.
In higher ed, email newsletters are a dime a dozen. But the effort they require is not insignificant. And there’s a lot of competition awaiting us in the inbox. How can we make email work harder for our content strategy, and what can we learn from this platform’s newfound popularity to make it more effective for us? In this presentation, we will discuss tools, processes, and best practices for managing email products; examine examples of successful email newsletters (from higher ed and beyond); and explain how to connect email to your overall communications strategy.

UDL has gained in popularity over the last decade both in the K-12 and the post-secondary sectors. The usefulness of UDL to create inclusive learning experiences for the full array of diverse learners has been well documented in the literature, and there is now increasing scholarship examining the process of integrating UDL strategically across organisations. One concern, however, remains under-reported and under-researched. Much of the scholarship on UDL ironically remains while and Eurocentric. Even if UDL, as a discourse, considers the decolonization of the curriculum, it is abundantly clear that the research and advocacy related to UDL originates almost exclusively from the Global North and from a Euro-Caucasian authorship. It is argued that it is high time for the way UDL has been monopolized by Global North scholars and practitioners to be challenged. Voices discussing and framing UDL, from the Global South and Indigenous communities, must be amplified and showcased in order to rectify this glaring imbalance and contradiction.
This session represents an opportunity for the author to reflect on a volume he has just finished editing entitled Decolonizing UDL and to highlight and share insights into the key innovations, promising practices, and calls for change, originating from the Global South and Indigenous Communities, that have woven the canvas of this book. The session seeks to create a space for critical dialogue, for the challenging of existing power dynamics within the UDL scholarship, and for the emergence of transformative voices from underrepresented communities.
