Related theory:
Weir:
A weir is a an overflow structure extending across a stream or a channel and is normal to the
direction of flow weir are normally categorized by their shape or their sharp crestedor broad
crested. In the loboratory experiment most focous is on sharp crested weir also known as
notches.
V-notch:
It is a plate having a triangular shape cut in it. And it is use to measure rate of flow of a liquid.
Rectangular notch:
It is a plate having a rectangular cut in it and is use to measure rate of flow of a liquid.
Coefficient of discharge:
It is the ratio of actual discharge over theoretical discharge.
Cd = Qactual/ Qtheo
Hook-guage:
It is use to determine the depth of flow in open channel and also in notches.

Procedure:
 Measure the width of rectangular notch.
 Set the notch in the channel of hydraulic bench.
 Set the hook-guage in the channel of hydraulic bench. Set the guage half away between
the plate and the stilling baffle.
 Turn on the pump and open the central valve and adjust the valve to obtain the Head H.
 For each flow rate after the conditions are stable measure head using hook-guage.
 Take the reading of volume of water and the time using stop watch.repeat the step 4 t0 6
for each type rectangular notch or v-notch.
Observationand calculation:
Volume collected = 5 liter
B = width of notch = 3 cm
Θ = angle of v-notch = 90 degree
For Rectangular notch:
