This document discusses using databases to improve data maintenance in GlusterFS. It provides an overview of GlusterFS, challenges with data maintenance, and existing solutions. The proposed solution is an optimized embedded database called LibgfDB that can record data fast with good querying capabilities. A case study on GlusterFS data cache tiering that uses LibgfDB is presented. Lessons learned about database performance and scalability are discussed, as well as future work around LibgfDB and implementing cache tiering in Ceph.
