CLOUD
COMPUTING
astiyash5@gmail.com

INTRODUCTION
• The practice of using a network of remote servers hosted on the Internet to store, manage,
and process data, rather than a local server or a personal computer.
• Cloud computing is the delivery of computing services—servers, storage, databases,
networking, software, analytics and more—over the Internet (“the cloud”).
• Companies offering these computing services are called cloud providers and typically
charge for cloud computing services based on usage, similar to how you are billed for water
or electricity at home.
• Cloud computing, often referred to as simply “the cloud,” is the delivery of on-demand
computing resources—everything from applications to data centers—over the internet on a
pay-for-use basis.
USES OF CLOUD COMPUTING
• If we use an online service to send email, edit documents, watch movies or TV, listen to music, play
games or store pictures and other files, it is likely that cloud computing is making it all possible behind
the scenes. The first cloud computing services are barely a decade old, but already a variety of
organizations—from tiny startups to global corporations, government agencies to non-profits—are
embracing the technology for all sorts of reasons. Here are a few of the things you can do with the
cloud:
• Create new apps and services
• Store, back up and recover data
• Host websites and blogs
• Stream audio and video
• Deliver software on demand
• Analyze data for patterns and make predictions
TOP BENEFITS OF CLOUD COMPUTING
1. Cost
Cloud computing eliminates the capital expense of buying hardware and software and setting up and
running on-site datacenters—the racks of servers, the round-the-clock electricity for power and
cooling, the IT experts for managing the infrastructure. It adds up fast.
2. Speed
Most cloud computing services are provided self service and on demand, so even vast amounts of
computing resources can be provisioned in minutes, typically with just a few mouse clicks, giving
businesses a lot of flexibility and taking the pressure off capacity planning.
3. Global scale
The benefits of cloud computing services include the ability to scale elastically. In cloud speak, that
means delivering the right amount of IT resources—for example, more or less computing power,
storage, bandwidth—right when its needed and from the right geographic location.
4. Productivity
On-site datacenters typically require a lot of “racking and stacking”—hardware set up, software
patching and other time-consuming IT management chores. Cloud computing removes the need
for many of these tasks, so IT teams can spend time on achieving more important business goals.
5. Performance
The biggest cloud computing services run on a worldwide network of secure datacenters, which
are regularly upgraded to the latest generation of fast and efficient computing hardware. This
offers several benefits over a single corporate datacenter, including reduced network latency for
applications and greater economies of scale.
6. Reliability
Cloud computing makes data backup, disaster recovery and business continuity easier and less
expensive, because data can be mirrored at multiple redundant sites on the cloud provider’s
network.
TYPES OF CLOUD SERVICES:
IAAS, PAAS, SAAS
• Most cloud computing services fall into three broad
categories: infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a
service (PaaS) and software as a service (Saas). These are
sometimes called the cloud computing stack, because they
build on top of one another. Knowing what they are and
how they are different makes it easier to accomplish your
business goals.
INFRASTRUCTURE-AS-A-SERVICE (IAAS)
• The most basic category of cloud computing services. With IaaS, you rent IT
infrastructure—servers and virtual machines (VMs), storage, networks, operating
systems—from a cloud provider on a pay-as-you-go basis.
• Cloud-based applications—or software as a service—run on distant computers “in
the cloud” that are owned and operated by others and that connect to users’
computers via the internet and, usually, a web browser.
• The benefits of IaaS
No need to invest in your own hardware
Infrastructure scales on demand to support dynamic workloads
Flexible, innovative services available on demand
PLATFORM AS A SERVICE (PAAS)
• Platform-as-a-service (PaaS) refers to cloud computing services that supply an on-
demand environment for developing, testing, delivering and managing software
applications.
• PaaS is designed to make it easier for developers to quickly create web or mobile apps,
without worrying about setting up or managing the underlying infrastructure of servers,
storage, network and databases needed for development.
• Platform as a service provides a cloud-based environment with everything required to
support the complete lifecycle of building and delivering web-based (cloud)
applications—without the cost and complexity of buying and managing the underlying
hardware, software, provisioning, and hosting.
• The benefits of PaaS
• Develop applications and get to market faster
• Deploy new web applications to the cloud in minutes
• Reduce complexity with middleware as a service
SOFTWARE AS A SERVICE (SAAS)
• Software-as-a-service (SaaS) is a method for delivering software applications over the
Internet, on demand and typically on a subscription basis.
• With SaaS, cloud providers host and manage the software application and underlying
infrastructure and handle any maintenance, like software upgrades and security
patching. Users connect to the application over the Internet, usually with a web browser
on their phone, tablet or PC.
• Cloud-based applications—or software as a service—run on distant computers “in the
cloud” that are owned and operated by others and that connect to users’ computers via
the internet and, usually, a web browser.
• The benefits of SaaS
You can sign up and rapidly start using innovative business apps
Apps and data are accessible from any connected computer
No data is lost if your computer breaks, as data is in the cloud
The service is able to dynamically scale to usage needs
