The City of Toronto is considering installing up to seven bump-outs on Oakwood Avenue between St. Clair Avenue and Rogers Road. This would improve safety for pedestrians by shortening crossing distances and slowing traffic. It would allow for new street trees and bus shelters. America's twentieth century highway building era included freeways which cut huge swaths across our cities, decimating neighborhoods and reducing quality of life for city residents. This massive infrastructure investment had devastating effects on local economies. It blighted property and pushed access to basic amenities further out.
Across the Country the Federal and State Departments of Transportation confronting shrinking budgets and cities looking for ways to increase their revenues, it is an ideal time to offer, alternatives to the reconstruction of expressways. The alternative to the highway will be discussed, showing the cost savings, improvement of mobility, and the ability to foster lasting redevelopment. Cases studies will illustrate how cities can maximize their transportation dollars while stabilizing neighborhoods.

In 2011, the Cooper's Ferry Partnership was formed through the merger of the Cooper's Ferry Development Association and the Greater Camden Partnership to revitalize Camden, NJ. In 2011, the Cooper's Ferry Partnership was formed through the merger of the Cooper's Ferry Development Association and the Greater Camden Partnership to revitalize Camden, NJ. The Partnership focuses on improving neighborhoods, strengthening downtown anchors like hospitals and universities, and developing the waterfront to attract residents, businesses, and investors. It has led many projects to create the Camden Greenway trail network, connecting the city to surrounding areas through new and improved bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure. Recent expansions made possible by grants aim to further diversify transportation and recreation options in the region for community benefit.

Route 28 Widening: Citizens Information Meeting - April 3, 2018Fairfax County

This document discusses Safe Kids' Photovoice program, which uses photography to document children's perspectives on road safety issues in their communities. The program has been implemented in 10 countries. It aims to raise awareness, educate children, and improve pedestrian environments through community-identified solutions. Evaluation found the program increased children's road safety knowledge and some countries made environmental changes like adding crosswalks in response to the children's photos and concerns. The case study from Vietnam showed how children's photos were exhibited to influence road planning and design.
