Anyone designing new products, strategy or change will need to consider the future world in which their creations will exist. A little more than ten years ago I was asked this question: “What will the world look like in 10 years and how might this affect the organisation?” To answer this I needed to learn how to be a Futurist. It wouldn't be that hard right? I could just make a few wild predictions about a utopian future with robots and sprinkle with buzzwords? No, I'd have to take another route and learn more about the world in the process. In this talk I will break from the future-gazing and do two things rare for a Futurist; I will look back into the past and I will focus on the predictions I got wrong. This presentation looks at the causes of workplace distractions, and offers several strategies for dealing them, both for individuals, and for organizations. Information overload and context switching are identified as two key problems that must be dealt with. Since organizations have invested heavily in collaboration tools, workers are faced with a coterie of products that don't work together well. The result is a day spent toggling between multiple applications to complete basic business tasks. Case in point: the New York Times found that workers typically change windows 37 times an hour. But how do you solve this problem with out having to change a worker's daily habits or behavior? One solution is social email - a way to reduce context switching by aggregating existing collaboration tools in the one window that is open all day at work - email. Single context, one window...but no 'pane.'

In the first chapter of the lecture we will start a discussion on how to get there. Since your time is limited, you need to mentor, coach, motivate and engage others. Start with making a stable foundation, like setting up a proper onboarding process. If you help people around you, they will for sure talk about it, and your manager will hear it. Also, demonstrate ability in everyday work: coding, project management, client-focus, communication and care about others. Always stick to your values and keep high standards. In the second chapter we will discuss the challenges that turn up once you get there. At that point you will deal with people more than technology. You will need to step away from coding for meetings very often. Interruptions will happen every day and it we be very hard to maintain “the flow”. You will need to learn how to delegate and drive topics without implementing them yourself. Currently, there is a growing demand for standardization and interoperability in energy data and modeling. Open source standards and specifications within the energy sector can also alleviate challenges associated with data fragmentation, transparency, and accessibility. At the same time, it is crucial to consider privacy and security concerns throughout the development of open source platforms. This webinar will delve into the motivations behind establishing LF Energy’s Carbon Data Specification Consortium. It will provide an overview of the draft specifications and the ongoing progress made by the respective working groups.
