This document provides an overview of a strategic foresight service called Shaping Tomorrow. It discusses how the world is changing rapidly with uncertainties, complexities, and digitalization. Organizations need to improve agility, stability, and risk mitigation. The service helps identify and manage changes to achieve strategic goals. It emphasizes increasing strategic foresight capabilities through monitoring changes, imagining futures, and planning actions. The service aims to democratize strategic thinking by providing an automated system that can generate thousands of insights and forecasts weekly from over 30,000 sources to help organizations make better decisions.
The document provides guidance from Jack Nichelson, Director of Infrastructure & Security at Chart Industries, on creating a results-oriented culture. Some of the key points discussed include:
- Leaders must take ownership of problems and focus on influencing factors within their control rather than blaming external factors.
- It is important to understand stakeholders, begin with defining desired outcomes, and create problem statements to guide goal-setting and planning.
- Metrics and visualization tools can help monitor performance, identify issues, and guide process improvements. Regularly adjusting approaches based on data is important for progress.
- Prioritizing important tasks over just urgent ones, managing time effectively, and collaborating with empathy are also advised for achieving

Does counting the number of intrusions a firewall blocked in a month really justify the capital spend on security projects? What kind of operational data demonstrates cybersecurity leaders’ long-term budgetary needs for their programs and at the same time shows the progress they’ve made over the years? Learn how a duo of cybersecurity professionals used thought leadership and a goals-based approach to build the case for past capital and future spend — a system that won them both dollars and trust with peers and their boards.

You're the newly-minted CISO in your organization, charged with the (un)enviable task of improving security. Unfortunately, your superiors and peers aren't quite sure what good security looks like, what they expect to see from you, or how you should go about doing it. All the execs know for sure is that if a security breach happens, it’s definitely your fault...and if a breach never comes, they question the need for security’s budget.
It falls to you to chart your own path, and help define what good security looks like within your organization. In this session we will provide real-world examples of how the three speakers have faced this challenge in multiple organizations, what metrics were chosen to show progress, and how the speakers have gone about gathering them. You will leave this session not with abstract ivory-tower ideas on measurement, but with actionable tactics you can put in place within your own program today. This session will address:
• How to show security progress
• Presenting security to senior leadership
• Real-world security metrics
• Identifying and using easily collected data
• Aligning with existing organizational metrics
I presented this at ICT Spring Europe 2015 in Luxembourg. The presentation highlights the way in which big data investments are not always delivering on their promise and why brands should consider taking a 'human-centred' approach to big data analytics.

This involves systematically capturing insights and raw observations about change from various sources. Scanning allows organizations to consider potential futures and how they might respond. Tools like tagging and linking insights can help identify patterns and interdependencies. The aim is to help organizations anticipate challenges and opportunities to stay ahead of competitors.
Microsoft: A Waking Giant in Healthcare Analytics and Big DataDale Sanders
Ten years ago, critics didn’t believe that Microsoft could scale in the second generation of relational data warehouses, but they did. More recently, many of these same pundits have criticized Microsoft for missing the technology wave du jour in cloud offerings, mobile technology, and big data. But, once again, Microsoft has been quietly reengineering its culture and products, and as a result, they now offer the best value and most visionary platform for cloud services, big data, and analytics in healthcare.
DAMA Webinar: Influencing with Data – Facts Don’t Matter Much!DATAVERSITY
Business analytics can provide a major stimulus for transformational change. Yet neuroscience and psychology show us that people are typically not "wired" to engage with facts. Analytics leaders seeking to develop a data-driven culture must take positive steps to engage with emotions. What can we do to overcome these psychological resistance factors?
Key Challenges
Humans are "wired" with multiple mechanisms that inhibit their ability to engage with facts.
People's initial responses tend to be emotional rather than rational.
Being presented with evidence that contradicts existing beliefs and values can mean that positions become more entrenched, even when there is benefit to be derived from change.
Business benefits are mostly presented as benefits to the business only, rather than considering their effect on the beliefs and motivations of individuals.
Why to attend this webinar?
Information and Analytics leaders should attend this webinar to learn how to:
Connect emotionally with stakeholders, engage with both collective and personal benefits to increase engagement and ensure that there is both organizational and personal buy-in to decisions.
Avoid the psychological responses that inhibit engagement with data by communicating analytics outputs in ways that take such reactions into account.
Apply critical thinking when presenting analytics results, to overcome logical fallacies and decision biases.
This document discusses strategic foresight and change management. It explains that increasing strategic foresight capability is the first step in change management. Scanning the environment to identify signals of change and emerging trends is analogous to early warning radar. An AI assistant named Athena can now automatically extract insights and forecasts from sources to help identify and understand emerging changes. Analyzing insights and forecasts can help create possible future scenarios to help organizations choose preferable futures and shape tomorrow.

1. An Overview
Skype. It has a substantial market share (and mindshare), many people use it daily, yet nearly every core component of the program is seen as being out of date. The Skype corporation has been operating online for more than 20 years, and by spreading the word about its ability to make audio and video conversations via the internet instead of over the phone, it has grown its subscriber base.
Surveys, focus groups with observation, and floating questionnaires to clients who have used this product at least once are the finest ways to learn about the present status of the business and, consequently, the main product offering. It can be very helpful to identify the target audience and to provide useful inputs that could help define a future state for the product. Data obtained from online surveys through various e-commerce platforms with which the company has partnerships, data obtained from social media channels, and data from websites. Locals can provide insightful information that will serve as clear prompts for the company's R&D team as they plot the course for upcoming innovations or enhancements to current products.
Customer and influencer marketing-provided product evaluations are another crucial metric that may assist a business discover what consumers like and dislike about a product, as well as how they perceive its value, quality, and ability to effectively clean their teeth, among other things. The basic problem that the Skype team must overcome may be understood through root cause and opportunity analysis. Understanding the present situation of the product and the business may be accomplished with the use of this knowledge together with data from real surveys and website visitors.
2. Elicitation Plan
Elicitation Techniques:
1. Survey/Questionnaire
Stakeholders including end-users are presented with a series of questions over a survey or a questionnaire to help quantify their opinions. Following the gathering of the responses here, data is evaluated to determine the stakeholders' areas of focus that need improvement. High priority risks should be the basis for questions. Direct and clear questions are best. Closed-ended questions will help us focus on areas that we know need improvement while open-ended ones will help us comprehend what we may have overlooked.

This document discusses how organizations can prepare for and implement cognitive computing capabilities. It outlines lessons learned from early adopters in three key areas: 1) Define the business value and opportunity for cognitive solutions; 2) Prepare foundational capabilities like investing in human talent and data; 3) Manage change throughout the implementation. The document recommends a four-step process to kickstart a cognitive journey: identify opportunities, build expertise, deploy pilot solutions, and scale implementations. Future reports will explore industry-specific opportunities and how cognitive can drive innovation.

Kate Grenville's novel The Secret River follows a group of British settlers in early colonial Australia and their interactions with the indigenous Aboriginal people. The characters have differing views on the Aboriginals, ranging from Thomas Blackwood's belief that they should be treated respectfully to Smasher Sullivan's more hostile attitude. The story explores the conflicting beliefs between the settlers and the Aboriginal people during this period of colonial expansion and settlement in Australia.
Ensuring Project Success Through Automated Risk ManagementMitchell College
The document discusses an automated project governance solution called Insight that provides visibility, control, and early detection of risks to ensure project success. It analyzes problems companies face with traditional risk management practices. Insight addresses these by collecting regular risk assessments and feedback to provide comprehensive visibility into project risks. This helps limit issues like burnout and turnover while improving information flow and risk management practices.

This document discusses how data and analytics can create or destroy shareholder value for companies through decision making. It finds that while most executives recognize the importance of data-driven decisions, only a third of organizations are highly data-driven. Highly data-driven companies are 3 times more likely to improve decision making. The technologies for advanced analytics like machine learning, IoT/sensors, simulation, and visualization are advancing rapidly but organizations must focus on developing the right operating model and skills to realize benefits. The operating model chosen can determine whether shareholder value is created or destroyed through analytics.
“Everyone keeps telling accountants that they need to change their focus from the historic and the backward-looking, and to start being proactive and offering future-focused advice – but no one tells them how. The beauty of the Anticipatory Organization program is that it actually gives you a set of tools to harness the hard trends that are shaping the future, and use them to create new value for your firm and your clients.” - Daniel Hood, Editor-in-Chief of Accounting Today (when recognizing AOAF as a 2016 Top Product in Learning
The competency of “anticipation” actually includes a number of competencies included in many of the top companies of today.
Across these models, you'll see a common theme of “strategic thinking," "innovation" and “leading change."
Many of these organizations build (and validate) fantastic competency models and know what they want people to do.
The top five skills and competencies identified for CPAs, accounting and finance professionals are:
1. Strategic and critical thinking;
2. Communication;
3. Anticipating and serving evolving needs;
4. Inspiring and motivating others;
5. Collaboration and mobilizing consensus
The beauty of the Anticipatory Organization model is that it offers a clear process that makes highly-abstract leadership competencies attainable and trainable. Using nano-leanring in very short 3-4 minute single concept videos (imagine a series of shirt Ted Talks) with rapid application exercises to immediately apply the concepts to the job, and visual job aids to reinforce and remember the learning. Add a team implementation and collaboration guide and you can create a shared language and culture of being anticipatory and proactive.
If an organization wants to make "strategic thinking" or "innovation" a core competency, we can provide clear, trainable activities that can be targeted to a wide range of learners (from individual contributors to senior leadership). We provide the bridge between the competency model and the desired observable behaviors.

Do end-users fit the informatics requirements?John Trigg
The document discusses factors for successful informatics projects and user acceptance of new technologies. It notes that short-term success is based on being on time and on budget, while long-term success depends on user acceptance. To achieve user acceptance, the summary recommends keeping close control of user requirements, maintaining user involvement throughout the project, and recognizing different types of users and their technology adoption behaviors. The relationship between IT departments and users is also examined, emphasizing the importance of alignment between their interests.

Decolonizing Universal Design for LearningFrederic Fovet
UDL has gained in popularity over the last decade both in the K-12 and the post-secondary sectors. The usefulness of UDL to create inclusive learning experiences for the full array of diverse learners has been well documented in the literature, and there is now increasing scholarship examining the process of integrating UDL strategically across organisations. One concern, however, remains under-reported and under-researched. Much of the scholarship on UDL ironically remains while and Eurocentric. Even if UDL, as a discourse, considers the decolonization of the curriculum, it is abundantly clear that the research and advocacy related to UDL originates almost exclusively from the Global North and from a Euro-Caucasian authorship. It is argued that it is high time for the way UDL has been monopolized by Global North scholars and practitioners to be challenged. Voices discussing and framing UDL, from the Global South and Indigenous communities, must be amplified and showcased in order to rectify this glaring imbalance and contradiction.
This session represents an opportunity for the author to reflect on a volume he has just finished editing entitled Decolonizing UDL and to highlight and share insights into the key innovations, promising practices, and calls for change, originating from the Global South and Indigenous Communities, that have woven the canvas of this book. The session seeks to create a space for critical dialogue, for the challenging of existing power dynamics within the UDL scholarship, and for the emergence of transformative voices from underrepresented communities. The workshop will use the UDL principles scrupulously to engage participants in diverse ways (challenging single story approaches to the narrative that surrounds UDL implementation) , as well as offer multiple means of action and expression for them to gain ownership over the key themes and concerns of the session (by encouraging a broad range of interventions, contributions, and stances).
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has revolutionized the creation of images and videos, enabling the generation of highly realistic and imaginative visual content. Utilizing advanced techniques like Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) and neural style transfer, AI can transform simple sketches into detailed artwork or blend various styles into unique visual masterpieces. GANs, in particular, function by pitting two neural networks against each other, resulting in the production of remarkably lifelike images. AI's ability to analyze and learn from vast datasets allows it to create visuals that not only mimic human creativity but also push the boundaries of artistic expression, making it a powerful tool in digital media and entertainment industries.

8+8+8 Rule Of Time Management For Better ProductivityRuchiRathor2
This is a great way to be more productive but a few things to
Keep in mind:
- The 8+8+8 rule offers a general guideline. You may need to adjust the schedule depending on your individual needs and commitments.
- Some days may require more work or less sleep, demanding flexibility in your approach.
- The key is to be mindful of your time allocation and strive for a healthy balance across the three categories.

Managing change is a process that can be
systematized
Increasing strategic foresight capability is
the first step in systematic change
management
Having strategic foresight increases future
opportunity and reduces emerging risk
Begin by identifying and monitoring
change going on in the world around you,
then critique the implications, imagine
future differences, envision your preferred
future and plan and act on what you now

Today:
Strategic thinking is complex, messy, costly,
time-consuming, requires considerable
knowledge and expertise which is in no one
place
Similarly, education in strategic thinking
Strategic thinking is mostly in the hands of
experts (Hedgehogs1
) and they in turn are
constrained by the same issues above
Consequently, only a few organizations are
wold-class in strategic thinking and most people
make decisions based on past experiences and
partial knowledge without the complete picture

Tomorrow:
As the pace of change accelerates
organizations need a simpler, faster way to do
strategic thinking, to respond just-in-time and
to become agile and resilient in ever more
uncertain times
Education in strategic thinking needs to be
immediate and knowledge of what we all can
see of the future, near-instant, to drive
competitive advantage and shape better
tomorrows
Strategic thinking needs to be in the hands of
non-experts (Foxes1
) too, to speed up decision-
making, get most organizations in the world to
best and next practice and help more people
become forward-thinking in their outlook and
actions

Manual Tracking and categorization of data:
• 1st year of TFA we had a contractor create and maintain the Research Database.
• Not effective at all. Costly, hard to update, not used after the fact.
Search for a solution:
• Next year spent 3 to 4 months searching for solutions and had a few companies provide demos and trials.
Results:
• Very complete but complex ones…. but too expensive ~ $200K+/year
• News services which are also expensive and have limited in scope and access.
• Wide collection of free and paid for tools that was way too cumbersome to manage and would require some
programming to integrate and use effectively.
Shaping Tomorrow:
• Mentioned by my a Foresight colleague in another organization, fit the bill for information search and
management , Foresight tools and reasonable cost. We signed up.

"You have created a unique and very impressive scanning and foresight platform"
James Mason, AllState Insurance United States
"The Shaping Tomorrow workshop was incredibly valuable in demonstrating the potential use of
the integrated foresight, strategy and change tools - I am impressed with how widely the tools
can be applied to our daily work and how the systematic approach ensures that we cover off
areas we perhaps wouldn't think of including in our analysis. I really like its systematic
approach and the fact that it can be used in diverse areas such as policy
formulation, forecasting, provision of advice to senior levels of government etc."
Raana Asgar - DAFF (Australia)
"Shaping Tomorrow provided the tools and expertise to quickly assimilate market
information, identify key drivers and create multiple scenarios. We were able to
identify many options to help steer the company and test our strategic plans."
Russell Trueman, Strategic Planning Manager - British Gypsum (United Kingdom)
"I've been using Shaping Tomorrow for more than 3 years now. It not only has significantly
shortened the amount of time needed to scan, but has also increased the quantity of information
reviewed and the quality of the hits. This allows more time for analysis and interpretation
(where Shaping Tomorrow also has some great tools to support). And the team at Shaping
Tomorrow couldn't be more helpful."
