THE INCREASING IMPORTANCE OF USER EXPERIENCE
A startling revelation has come to light during our recent assessments for Teams call quality at enterprise organizations around the world. We have found that 24% of employees using Microsoft Teams for calls and meetings will experience call quality issues every week. Most of these go unreported to the Helpdesk or IT operations, causing end-users to suffer with ongoing poor call quality. And these are rarely issues with the Microsoft cloud.
So, what is the digital experience (DX) for your employees using Teams voice? Are any of them suffering from performance problems? How do you know?
AMAZING INSIGHTS
After working with many enterprise customers over the past 18 months we have identified THREE common problems that degrade performance for end-users during Teams calls and meetings, especially those working remotely. Here are the areas where these DX issues occur:
1) Underperforming computers (CPU, memory usage, background processes, etc.)
2) Networking bandwidth slowdowns (WiFi signal strength, overloaded Routers/Switches, etc.)
3) and Cloud connection bottlenecks (ISPs, VPN routing, etc.)
Please join us for this webinar to discuss real world stories from other enterprise organizations and learn how they were able to proactively identify call quality issues and improve the DX for their Teams deployment. During the webinar you will receive an overview of OfficeExpert Endpoint Performance Monitoring (EPM). This SaaS solution provides data analytics for Microsoft Teams performance and call quality from the end-user perspective. If you want to know the truth about your Teams digital experience then you need to see how data-driven, actionable insights can identify necessary endpoint / networking enhancements and speed troubleshooting for reported issues.
What you will learn
- Proactive monitoring for the remote user digital experience
- Identifying slow ISPs causing poor call quality for remote users
- Detailed analytics that show lagging performance on endpoint devices
- And more…

A webinar by Ben Menesi, Doug Davis & Carl Baumann
Has your company transitioned to Microsoft Teams as the standard Telecom solution for internal and external calls / meetings? If you have gone down this path, then you need to attend this webinar. This will be an eye-opening and insightful presentation on the network blind spots that cause the most challenges for IT support when troubleshooting Teams call quality issues.
While valuable as a high-level oversight tool, the MS Teams Call Quality Dashboard (CQD) doesn’t help isolate what problems are causing issues, especially for networking performance. This is painfully true for remote workers where IT support groups have visibility gaps for home networks, internet service providers (ISPs), and endpoint computer performance. What’s needed for fast troubleshooting is full visibility into each segment of the journey for Teams voice traffic – from the user endpoint to the Teams cloud service. Those insights help clarify whether a performance problem is on the Microsoft side, the local network, the ISP, or the client device.
Please join us for this webinar to hear how unmanaged networks for home office users could be negatively impacting Teams performance for enterprise voice. During the webinar you will receive an introduction to OfficeExpert Endpoint Performance Monitoring (EPM). This new SaaS solution provides data analytics for Microsoft 365 and Teams performance from the end-user perspective, including all the details of their local network and ISP. If you want to know the truth about your Teams call quality experience for remote users, then you should see how actionable insights can speed troubleshooting and help remediate issues before they become escalations to the helpdesk.
What you will learn:
- Real-Time monitoring for remote user call quality performance in Teams
- Detailed analytics for home office networks (Wi-Fi Signal Strength, Network Speeds, etc.)
- In-Depth metrics for ISP performance
- Fast troubleshooting for call quality issue resolution

Microsoft Teams has become the default Telecom System at many enterprise organizations. That means the call quality from Teams must be reliable and consistent, especially for executives. And troubleshooting issues needs to be fast and efficient. When problems arise, you need to react quickly, analyze all the performance data, find the root cause, and get it fixed!
However, without the detailed telemetry data to research the true cause, reported call quality issues continue unchecked by most IT groups. This is painfully true for remote workers where IT has visibility gaps for home networks, internet service providers (ISPs), and endpoint computer performance. Having the viewpoint from the end-user digital experience is of utmost importance when trying to find the root cause for Teams call quality issues. What processes and applications were running on the endpoint computer and how was the performance from the home office network and ISP (i.e., Dropped Packets, Hop Count, Round-Trip Times, Peering Distance)?
Enterprise organizations need a holistic monitoring tool that provides end-to-end visibility into the employee experience, regardless of where they are working. In this webinar, you will receive an introduction to OfficeExpert Endpoint Performance Monitoring (EPM). This new SaaS solution provides data analytics for Microsoft 365 performance and availability from the end-user perspective. If you want to know the truth about your Teams call quality experience, then please join us to see how actionable insights can speed troubleshooting and help remediate issues before they become escalations from an executive.
What you will learn
- Fast troubleshooting for call quality issue resolution
- Proactive monitoring for home office network performance
- Identify slow ISP’s causing poor call quality for remote users
- Detailed analytics for end-point computers (CPU, memory usage, background processes, etc.)

Software Architecture and Architectors: useless VS valuableComsysto Reply GmbH
The document discusses several cases where architecture decisions hurt software teams. It provides lessons learned from each case:
- Overly sharing code across domains can cause dependencies and fragility. Architectural boundaries should separate domains.
- Attempting to satisfy all use cases with a single highly configurable solution often satisfies no one. Specific solutions may be preferable.
- Microservices are not a universal solution and will not improve a flawed design alone. Modules should only be split across microservices at domain boundaries.
- Systems need to be designed to evolve dynamically over time as requirements change. Centralized control hinders this.
The document discusses best practices for assessing and optimizing an ICS infrastructure. It covers key factors to consider like the network, hardware, applications, security, and client landscape. Specific focus topics analyzed in more detail include user activity analysis and client landscape optimization. User activity can be analyzed to understand usage patterns and resource requirements. The client landscape should be optimized by choosing the right clients for users, consolidating for security and compliance, upgrading to newer ODS versions, and leveraging multiuser installation features.

Abstract
The idea of this talk is to help development teams to make correct architectural decisions.
Andrei will highlight the basic architectural principles and show ways to achieve architecture that is good enough to cover the project requirements and evolve in the future.
He will also present several cases from real projects, where wrong, missing, or over-sophisticated architecture decisions really hurt the development teams:
- Painful sharing: do shared modules increase reusability or will be the source of problems?
- Microservices are the solution to every problem!
- Non-extensible extensibility: too sophisticated configuration hurts
- Over fine-grained: incorrect splitting to Microservices can make life even harder as with monolith
- Convey horizontal split: how organizational driven split can jeopardise the architecture
- Model-driven: central responsibility blocks and limits the team
- Cargo cult: blindly following patterns and rule can produce an unmaintainable system
- Freestyle architecture: what happens if teams completely ignore architecture
- Improve with less intelligence: smart endpoint and dumb pipes

A network operating system (NOS) is software that enhances a basic operating system with networking features to support workstations and PCs on a local area network. Examples include Novell Netware, Microsoft Windows Server, and Linux servers. A NOS provides features for security, file/print sharing, directories, and remote access. Common tasks involve user administration, backups, and security monitoring. A client accesses services from a server. Windows Server is designed for enterprise management while Linux servers offer flexibility and cost advantages. Peer-to-peer networks allow direct sharing while client/server uses centralized file servers.
This lecture discusses access control and permissions in Windows systems. It covers the structure and use of registry keys, how permissions are applied to registry entries and shares, and differences between NTFS, share, and Active Directory permissions. It also discusses printer server topologies like locally attached printers versus printers connected to a print server. The lecture concludes with a brief overview of permissions in old and modern UNIX/Linux systems.

Nothing is as frustrating and noticeable as being in an important call and being unable to see or hear the other person. Not surprising then, that issues with Teams calls are among the most common problems users call their helpdesk for. Having in depth insight into everything relevant going on at the user’s device, local network, ISP and Microsoft itself during the call is crucial for good Microsoft Teams Call quality support. To ensure a quick and adequate solution and to ensure your users get the most out of their Microsoft 365.
But did you know that ‘bad calls’ are also an excellent indicator of other problems arising? Precisely because it is so noticeable!? Like the canary in the mine, bad calls can be early indicators of problems. Problems that might otherwise not have been noticed for a while but can have a big impact on productivity and satisfaction.
Join this session by Christoph Adler to learn how true Microsoft Teams call quality analytics helped other organizations troubleshoot bad calls and identify and fix problems that impacted Teams calls or the use of Microsoft365 in general.
See what it can do to keep your users happy and productive!
In this session we will cover
- Why CQD data alone is not enough to troubleshoot call problems
- The importance of attributing call problems to the right call participant
- What call quality analytics can do to help you quickly find, fix-, and prevent problems
- Why having retrospective detailed insights matters
- Real life examples of how others have used Microsoft Teams call quality monitoring to problem shoot problems with their ISP, network, device health and more.

In an era dominated by users working remotely from home or other different settings, understanding the intricacies of the user’s “last mile” – with what device, what peripheral equipment and HOW they connect to the office network or Microsoft 365 services – is critical for optimizing user experiences. Knowing that it’s the CPU being overloaded when your CEO is having trouble during that important Teams Call or that the accountant’s failure to connect to his files is caused by his home router, and not Microsoft 365 is crucial. In this webinar Christoph Adler delves into the significance of comprehending the entire remote user journey and the impact device health, local/home/remote networking have on the users experience and quality of service. Join us to learn how User Experience monitoring can help you be more effective and successful in supporting remote workers.
In this session we will talk about
- How device Health and what’s going on on the remote devices directly influences user experience and overall productivity.
- What you should know about the impact that diverse home networks, bandwidth, latency, network stability and ISP can have on successful remote connectivity.
- The importance of the User’s Context: Understand why, with cloud, the only way to truly say anything about a user’s experience is if it’s done from the exact user context and location.
- Real-life examples of Impactful Insights: Explore real-world examples showcasing the need for hardware replacements based on user requirements, efficient software/driver installations, and the challenges posed by high volatility in local/home/remote networks and environments.

"Why should you even care about end-to-end monitoring and User Experience Monitoring?” Spoiler alert, you should!
In a world where Microsoft 365 and hybrid/remote work are becoming the norm, not the exception, you should be able to support your users end-to-end. Wherever they are and at whatever time. But with services in the cloud and users constantly moving around between home / remote networks as well as company-controlled infrastructure, traditional methods often struggle. Leaving out important factors that can impact your user’s ‘journey’ and giving you false or incomplete pictures of what’s really going on.
Join this 30min session by Christop Adler with real-life examples to learn more about what User Experience end-to-end monitoring really is, why it’s not the same as what traditional monitoring solutions offer and, most importantly, why it matters and what you should expect from it.
In this session we will talk about
- Traditional monitoring techniques vs modern
- ‘Expected normal’ vs industry benchmark monitoring.
- How User Experience Monitoring can help ensure quality of service, lift user satisfaction and drive productivity.
- Why other companies who started using it, can’t do without anymore.
- How you can greatly increase your user’s satisfaction rates and overall Microsoft 365 cloud success.

Conversational agents, or chatbots, are increasingly used to access all sorts of services using natural language. While open-domain chatbots - like ChatGPT - can converse on any topic, task-oriented chatbots - the focus of this paper - are designed for specific tasks, like booking a flight, obtaining customer support, or setting an appointment. Like any other software, task-oriented chatbots need to be properly tested, usually by defining and executing test scenarios (i.e., sequences of user-chatbot interactions). However, there is currently a lack of methods to quantify the completeness and strength of such test scenarios, which can lead to low-quality tests, and hence to buggy chatbots.
To fill this gap, we propose adapting mutation testing (MuT) for task-oriented chatbots. To this end, we introduce a set of mutation operators that emulate faults in chatbot designs, an architecture that enables MuT on chatbots built using heterogeneous technologies, and a practical realisation as an Eclipse plugin. Moreover, we evaluate the applicability, effectiveness and efficiency of our approach on open-source chatbots, with promising results.

This time, we're diving into the murky waters of the Fuxnet malware, a brainchild of the illustrious Blackjack hacking group.
Let's set the scene: Moscow, a city unsuspectingly going about its business, unaware that it's about to be the star of Blackjack's latest production. The method? Oh, nothing too fancy, just the classic "let's potentially disable sensor-gateways" move.
In a move of unparalleled transparency, Blackjack decides to broadcast their cyber conquests on ruexfil.com. Because nothing screams "covert operation" like a public display of your hacking prowess, complete with screenshots for the visually inclined.
Ah, but here's where the plot thickens: the initial claim of 2,659 sensor-gateways laid to waste? A slight exaggeration, it seems. The actual tally? A little over 500. It's akin to declaring world domination and then barely managing to annex your backyard.
For Blackjack, ever the dramatists, hint at a sequel, suggesting the JSON files were merely a teaser of the chaos yet to come. Because what's a cyberattack without a hint of sequel bait, teasing audiences with the promise of more digital destruction?

Elasticity vs. State? Exploring Kafka Streams Cassandra State StoreScyllaDB
kafka-streams-cassandra-state-store' is a drop-in Kafka Streams State Store implementation that persists data to Apache Cassandra.
By moving the state to an external datastore the stateful streams app (from a deployment point of view) effectively becomes stateless. This greatly improves elasticity and allows for fluent CI/CD (rolling upgrades, security patching, pod eviction, ...).
It also can also help to reduce failure recovery and rebalancing downtimes, with demos showing sporty 100ms rebalancing downtimes for your stateful Kafka Streams application, no matter the size of the application’s state.
As a bonus accessing Cassandra State Stores via 'Interactive Queries' (e.g. exposing via REST API) is simple and efficient since there's no need for an RPC layer proxying and fanning out requests to all instances of your streams application.

5. The Client Management Challenge
IBM Lotus Notes client management doesn‟t start now, it started years ago
• Clients have been upgraded 3 times since then
• Install directory and client type changes
• Shared workstations vs single client installs
• Outdated or wrong templates, id‟s etc
Meanwhile, new apps got rolled out and decommissioned
• Icons and bookmarks were added – but probably never REmoved
• Local replicas got created, abandoned, re-created – but probably never Removed
• Mapped drives, outside the data directory, inside the data directory
Meanwhile, servers and users changed
• Consolidations and name changes leave orphaned client pointers
• Name changes and moves leave wrong location and connection docs
• The impact of a wrong catalog.nsf or homer server are tremendous

6. The Impact of Notes 8.x
17„000 files in Notes Program directory in 1„800 subdirectories
• 7„500 (largely undocumented) .properties files
• 1„500 jar files
• 1„200 HTML files
3„000 files in Notes Dataworkspace directory in 2„400 subdirectories, out of
which 1„850 are empty
• 900 (largely undocumented) XML files
• 100+ (largely undocumented) properties files
In total, that is
• 20„000 files in 4„600 subdirectories
• 8„500+ largely undocumented files
• Many (many many) subdirectories are plain empty, especially in Dataworkspace
• ... and around 100 NSFs/NTF„s
• ... and the good old notes.ini file
MarvelClient and IBM Lotus Notes Client Management 6
7. Add to that over 80 Preference Dialogs
Each menu has 15 setting on average for a total of
12„000 settings!
• In your local address book
• In your notes.ini
• In your XML files7„500
Which does not include any plugins,
widgets, addons, that you or your
users may have added to the Notes
client install.
MarvelClient and IBM Lotus Notes Client Management 7
8. The Policy Challenge
Policies depend on an already functioning/setup client
• In my experience less than 75% of users actually receive policies
They don‟t provide you with an inventory before making changes
• Client Management “in the dark”
They don‟t truly adapt to your users‟ unique situation
• LAN vs VPN, Citrix user, function outside the data directory
They aren‟t predictable
• Can happen anytime.... or not...
Most settings cannot be UNset once set
• Think about it...
They typically cannot repeat actions
• So if the user breaks something it‟s broken until they call for help
MarvelClient and IBM Lotus Notes Client Management 8

10. Transparency = Foundation of a Healthy Notes Environment
What is out there
• Client types, HW details, release version, available disk space, where links are pointing to, list of
databases, all existing replicas, memory present, configuration details, etc...
The difference between what was expected and what actually is
• Never requires guesswork, always shows up-to-date client inventory at all
Opportunities for improvements
• Reduce managed storage by deleting 40% of outdated local databases and templates
• Upgrade ODS for a client performance boost
How (non)healthy the client infrastructure is
• what needs to be fixed orstandardized
Icons, bookmarks etc that users have
• Typically shows that Notes is used much more than previously assumed (often prevents
migration to Microsoft),

MarvelClient and IBM Lotus Notes Client Management 14
16. Fixing and Standardizing existing deployments
• Without transparency, it‘s virtually impossible to fix and standardize
You can„t predict the outcome of any sweeping changes/fixes
You don„t know what„s out there
You don„t know how well your deployed changes are working
You don„t know „what„s left“ to do
You don„t know how well you„re doing (can„t prove reasons/success to upper management)
• Fixing and Standardizing can mean many different things
One time changes such as adding a variable to the notes.ini
Enforced configurations such as local replicas for mail, or unchangable location documents
Roaming: standard configuration across multiple devices, done intelligently
Comprehensive, flexible, consistent, predictable control over many different things, such as:
Icons, bookmarks, replicas, replicator
pages, locations, connections, toolbars, notes.ini, „Eclipse“/plugins/widgets, etc.
MarvelClient and IBM Lotus Notes Client Management 16
17. Standardizing
Yes, we know “comprehensive, flexible, consistent, predictable“ is a lot in one
sentence!
However, all four are required for proper
client management:
• Comprehensive - to accomodate users installs and
situations of all types
• Flexible – to accomodate different types of users,
traveling on VPN, using Citrix etc
• Consistent – fixing a problem once is great but
preventing the issue entirely is even better
• Predictable – to ensure intended changes are
taking place while knowing when that will happen
MarvelClient and IBM Lotus Notes Client Management 17
18. Fixing
• In most cases, fixing is just another word for:
Lack of transparency and standardization
Desperate symptom fighting
„We don„t know what„s wrong, let„s re-image Notes“
Second most expensive form of client management = help on demand
1000 similar problems remain 1000 support calls
persistent standardization significantly reduces number of individual
fixes/ number of help desk incidents
Most expensive = do nothing
In short, fixing is not a way to manage or control IBM Lotus Notes clients but merely a one
time change applied to users
MarvelClient and IBM Lotus Notes Client Management 18
19. Consolidations, Upgrades, Recertifications, Mergers etc
• Server consolidations: fewer servers = less cost
• Upgrading hard- and software and ODS on servers = gaining efficiency
• Leveraging new features by upgrading
• Recertifying domains, mergers and server expansions
• Load balancing and clustering servers = gaining efficiency and reliability
• During such projects, companies often face huge challenges on the client side
How do you repoint user links to new servers while being able to turn off old server immediately?
How do you re-point replicator page entries or history to new servers?
How do you prevent cutoff date problems with existing local replicas?
How do upgrade inconsistent environments in which I can„t predict what a change may cause?
How do you upgrade all local databases without impacting my bandwidth SAN/NAS?
How many help desk calls can be expected during such projects? How do you prevent them?
How do you ensure best possible client performance and implement maintenance?

MarvelClient and IBM Lotus Notes Client Management 23
24. Module 1: ANALYZE – Finally, Transparency over the Notes Client
See Notes client machine configuration, spot problems, predict the
impact of planned projects and identify client performance issues.
For the first time, organizations can see how and where
Notes client are installed, who doesn‟t have the latest hotfix,
or who is not standardized, all without a single desktop visit.
MarvelClient Analyze collects over 200 configuration points
from all Notes clients, occasionally used non-work PC‟s,
Citrix users, floating laptops etc.
The result is a powerful knowledge in a single database,
essential to resolving support issues, performance problems
and potential security risks.
Know who has which icons, bookmarks or replicator entries
pointing to servers that were turned off years ago. Spot long
startup times or users with outdated location. Identify who
has un-encrypted and outdated databases on a public
network share, outside the Notes data directory.
MarvelClient and IBM Lotus Notes Client Management 24
25. Module 2: MIGRATE – Mass Changes Made Easy
Typical MIGRATE Project Most Common Request for MIGRATE
•Recertifying, renaming, moving or consolidating
Consolidating Servers servers and/or single databases have a massive effect
on Notes clients. With no native tools available to
cope, companies end up with many support
calls, unhappy end users and an unnecessarily high
Cleanup of existing,
outdated client info TCO of IBM Lotus Notes.
Example of a SMALL environment: 1„000
Mailfiles, 500 application replicas
Re-certifying users or servers 1,500 moves to 1,000 users =
1,500,000 change instructions (including delegates)
Large Example: 100,000 Mailfiles, 50.000 replicas
Domain mergers 150,000 * 100,000 =
15,000,000,000 (billion!) change instructions
MarvelClient Migrate can transparently process
10„000 instructions per second while preventing
support calls!
MarvelClient and IBM Lotus Notes Client Management 25
26. Module 3: MANAGE – Total Control to Fix AND lock down Notes
Define “the perfect Notes client” for any user group, hardware type, Notes
version, geography, department etc and then automatically setup and enforce that configuration
without costly and error prone manual setup
Makes touchless new client setups fast, automated and easy
Automatically configure Eclipse plug-ins, widgets, location and connection
documents, notes.ini settings, local replicas, bookmarks, preferences, profile
docs, signatures, dictionaries, full text indexes, ECLs, toolbars and more
Since all MarvelClient actions can be set to execute once, a __ number of times or
persistently, not only are Notes clients deployed perfectly, they remain perfectly configured
, 365 days a year
Over 80% support call reduction is easily achieves as help desk calls are prevented entirely
Our cleanup feature identifies local duplicate replicas, outdated unencrypted data, rogue local
archives and other security threats
Take control of your environment by removing or moving data or just disabling security
threats
Manage ID files in a reliable and secure way with our “ID Vault” like storage facility
ID files, certificates etc are transparently uploaded, downloaded and unlocked as needed
