It has proven valuable to companies across industries, helping to achieve key objectives like increased revenue, decreased costs, and reduced risk. Proactive industry leaders in AI are reporting 3% to 15% percentage points better operating profit margins than their peers who are lagging in adopting AI. Demand for Machine Learning (ML) Engineers has increased 9.8X from 2012 – 2017. During 2016 alone, companies invested $39 billion dollars in AI. And AI is clearly on the C-level agenda, with 83% of corporate executives saying AI is strategically important to their business.
2. Containers are revolutionizing IT. Containerization transforms the data center from being machine-oriented to being application-oriented. Building management APIs around containers rather than machines shifts the “primary key” of the data center from machine to application. Containers encapsulate the application environment, abstracting away many details of machines and operating systems from the application developer and the deployment infrastructure. The decoupling of image and OS makes it possible to provide the same deployment environment in both development and production, which, in turn, improves deployment reliability and speeds up development by reducing inconsistencies and friction. Containers are revolutionizing IT much in the same way as containers revolutionized cargo shipping 80 years ago – decreasing costs by increasing flexibility, portability, efficiency, and reuse. While containers are great, managing a container infrastructure without a high degree of automation and orchestration can soon become unruly.
