SUMMERY OF WORK
 Aim: to design sewage treatment plant for sewage
 Object: to control pollution of water bodies and to
control waterborne diseases
 Inspiration: steady increase in population increases
sewage generation, need STP.
 Design of STP: includes primary, secondary and tertiary
units
 Conclusion: by execution of this project the entire
sewage of the town can be treated effectively and
efficiently.

INTRODUCTION
Necessity of treatment of sewage:
 Sewage contains unwanted gases, organic matter,
microorganism, etc.
 Biodegradation, odours, waterborne diseases,
environmental pollution, etc.
 Important parameters need to assess: acidity,
alkalinity, total solids, sulphur compounds, carbon
compounds, nitrogen compounds, COD, BOD,
evolution of gases like, H2S, CO2, forms of nitrogen
due to biological actions and changes in
temperature.

ABOUT ULAVAPADU
 Ulavapadu is a town, Prakasam district, AP.
 Plain Environment throughout the year.
 at the altitude of 15.16670N latitude and 80.00E
longitude.
 As per 2011 census, population: 13,106 and in
2018: 14,000 approximately.
 Due to increase in sewage generation and due to
increase in waterborne diseases in the town, we
decided to propose a waste management system.
 This paper only deals with design STP in the waste
management.

EXPERIMENTAL METHODOLOGY
Survey on basic features of the town
 Population growth rate
 Culture, living style and economic status of local people
 Climate
 Site selection for STP
Analysis of physico-chemical parameters of sewage
pH, BOD, COD, Oil&grease, Total Suspended solids, Nitrogen,
Ammonia nitrogen, total phosphorous, total coliform.
Deciding various units to design
screens, grit chambers, primary sedimentation tank, aeration tank,
secondary sedimentation tank, sludge digestion tank in order.

tank
 Secondary units: aeration tank, secondary
sedimentation tank
 Tertiary units: sludge digestion tank

CONCLUSION
 Since, in Ulavapadu there is no proper treatment plant for
sewage, it is necessary to construct a Sewage Treatment
Plant.
 The plant is designed perfectly to meet the future
expansion for the next 40 years.
 This project consists of the design of the complete
components of a Sewage Treatment Plant from receiving
chamber, screening chamber, grit chamber, skimming
tank, sedimentation tank, secondary clarifier, active
sludge tank and sludge drying beds for sewage.
