At the earliest stages of a company, it comes down to understanding how a product is built to maximize and leverage user engagement.
In this presentation, Sarah Tavel shares her "Hierarchy of Engagement" framework she uses to evaluate non-transactional consumer companies she is looking to invest in.

The document discusses the evolution of the web over the next 10 years. An estimated 5.6 billion more people will go online, primarily using smartphones and tablets rather than PCs. This will result in a massive increase in the amount of user data being generated and collected online. While this data brings benefits, it also poses major risks regarding privacy, surveillance, and who controls the data. The document argues that the open web platform is crucial for enabling innovation while empowering users and ensuring transparency around how data is collected and used.

NEW LAUNCH IPv6 in the Cloud: Protocol and AWS Service OverviewAmazon Web Services
Recently, AWS announced support for Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) for several AWS services, providing significant capabilities for applications and systems that need IPv6. This session provides an overview of IPv6 and covers key aspects of AWS support for the protocol. We discuss Amazon S3 and S3 Transfer Acceleration, Amazon CloudFront and AWS WAF, Amazon Route 53, AWS IoT, Elastic Load Balancing, and the virtual private cloud (VPC) environment of Amazon EC2. The presentation assumes solid knowledge of IPv4 and those AWS services.
This document provides information about several presentations on managing your digital footprint being held during National Cyber Security Awareness Month at ASU. The presentations include topics such as managing the information you share online, understanding your online reputation, how hackers access personal information, and testing your security knowledge to win an iPad. The document also provides background on the main presenter, Jim Webb, and encourages participants to attend the presentations to learn how to better control access to their personal information online and protect themselves from potential threats.
In this presentation you'll learn the basics of staying safe online and protecting your privacy. Topics covered include privacy tools, passwords, internet browser settings, and VPN.
The landscape of "threat hunting" has drastically changed due to the increase in TLS encrypted Internet traffic. The days of adversaries registering domains with their given names are gone and malicious actors increasingly use malware that takes advantage of TLS encryption to hide their tracks. Yet, even in this brave new world of altered TTPs, the adversaries leave clues that can expose their infrastructure. To find these clues, however, blue teams need to learn some new tricks.
Our talk focuses on expanding upon techniques that have been researched and presented on at various conferences by Mark Parsons, specifically, his methods for using TLS certificates to find malicious malware infrastructure. We will build upon Parsons' corpus of work and show how his approach to malware certificate hunting can be expanded upon to detect instances of PowerShell Empire servers that have self-generated SSL certs on port 443 and 8080. These certificates have a unique finger print that can be detected by leveraging tools like zmap/zgrep, python, and statistics/machine learning. The results of this research will show how network defenders can find previously unknown instances of malicious infrastructure communicating with their network and prevent them in the future. Finally, we will discuss our hypotheses creation, our code and techniques, methods of validation for verification, and release our tools and methodology for use by the community to explore other "hidden empires" of malware that may exist.
This document discusses the benefits of cloud computing for real estate professionals. It outlines 7 key reasons to use the cloud, including that it is often free or low-cost, easy to use, saves time, allows sharing of documents, and allows for customization. The document provides step-by-step instructions for using Google Docs and other free cloud services. It also discusses security considerations and recommends having backup plans for data in the cloud. The overall message is that cloud computing can help real estate professionals organize their work remotely and clients will increasingly expect these capabilities.

This document discusses Netflix, including what it is, how it works, content requirements and data usage, types of content available, popular shows, advantages and disadvantages. It notes that Netflix uses internet streaming to deliver movies and TV shows from servers to screens. Recommended speeds vary from 0.5 Mbps for minimum to 25 Mbps for 4K streaming. Data usage also varies by resolution from 300 MB to 7 GB per hour. The document also summarizes that excessive Netflix usage by youth can negatively impact their academic performance, mental and physical health, sleep, confidence and understanding of fiction versus reality.
This document discusses the evolution of computing technology from mainframes to personal computers to local area networks to mobile cloud computing. It provides tips for using social media like Facebook, Twitter, blogs and YouTube to market a dental practice. Key recommendations include having a website as the hub, focusing on content over time spent, encouraging reviews, and using hashtags and keywords. The document also explains search engine optimization, cloud computing and data storage in data centers rather than on individual devices.
The Samsung, now Seagate, SecretZone (SSZ) is a software program that protects personal information by creating a secure, password-‐protected folder on the Samsung external drive. This software is provided free along with Samsung devices, as for example a M series device, and can only be used with such devices.
This presentation will share two real DF cases where such tool was used by the suspects to hide their data, and how these cases were handled to overcome such protection. Moreover a major flaw in the SSZ implementation will be addressed, which allows to easily decrypt the whole "secret zone", despite the strong algorithms used (AES, Blowfish).

The presentation discusses how sensor data and connectivity through devices like cameras, phones, vehicles, and appliances can provide evidence through the "Internet of Evidence" in legal cases. This sensor data, also called the "Internet of Things", is growing exponentially and can support determining timelines, identities, intentions, conditions, and knowledge in legal matters. However, precautions must be taken to properly preserve, analyze, and apply this data as potential evidence. Two case studies are provided as examples.
Where’s Wally? How to Privately Discover your Friends on the InternetPanagiotis Papadopoulos
Internet friends who would like to connect with each other (e.g., VoIP, chat) use point-to-point communication applications such as Skype or WhatsApp. Apart from providing the necessary communication channel, these applications also facilitate contact discovery, where users upload their address-book and learn the network address of their friends. Although handy, this discovery process comes with a significant privacy cost: users are forced to reveal to the service provider every person they are socially connected with, even if they do not ever communicate with them through the app. In this paper, we show that it is possible to implement a scalable User Discovery service, without requiring any centralized entity that users have to blindly trust. Specifically, we distribute the maintenance of the users’ contact information, and allow their friends to query for it, just as they normally query the network for machine services. We implement our approach in PROUD: a distributed privacy-preserving User Discovery service, which capitalizes on DNS. The prevalence of DNS makes PROUD immediately applicable, able to scale to millions of users. Preliminary evaluation shows that PROUD provides competitive performance for all practical purposes, imposing an overhead of less than 0.3 sec per operation.
The document discusses the "Dashboard of Things", which will allow users to program interactions between internet of things devices, apps, and data. It believes that the internet of things will revolutionize the internet not just by enabling remote control of devices, but by creating a programmable web. The dashboard will use a new programming language and schema to filter data, and will let users define their own triggers, actions, and payloads to automate interactions across different IoT systems and apps. The next version of the Netvibes dashboard aims to be this programmable "Dashboard of Things".

THEC Talks #1 was an opportunity for students to exchange experiences and insights about web-related technical subjects.
This event was organized *by* and *for* the students from HEC Paris. Some students talked about subjects they care about, dealing with various aspects of the web such as web languages, e-marketing, analytics, mobile development, cloud computing, etc.
These talks all had one common rule : practice over theory. That is why efforts have been made to be as much « hands-on » as possible, with lots of live demos and visuals.
This event was an initiative from Emiland De Cubber & Nicolas Mondollot, two students from Digital Business Strategy course of HEC Paris and Télécom ParisTech.
