In this research work, the assessment of the suitability of melon and snail shell wastes mixtures in enhancing the surface hardness of mild steel via the pack carburization method has been investigated. The carburization process was carried out at the temperatures of 9000C, 9200C and 940oC for the soaking times of 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes respectively, and then quenched in water toharden. Thereafter, they were tempered at 2500Cfor 1 hour to relieve the residual stresses introduced into the steel specimens as a result of quenching. Standard method was adopted to determine the surface hardness of the carburized and un-carburized test specimens. Micro-structure examination was also performed using standard metallographic techniques to observe the microstructures formed. The results of the study showed increase in the surface hardness of all the carburized steel specimens in the different carburizing media. The steel specimens carburized with 80% snail shell wastes plus 20% melon shell wastes mixture had higher hardness values than those carburized with 100% snail shell wastes only. The maximum surface hardness values of 118VHN, 128VHN and 129VHN were obtained at thecarburizing temperatures of 9000C, 9200C and 9400C respectively, for the soaking time of 60 minutes with thespecimens carburized with snail and melon shell wastes mix. Even if UDL, as a discourse, considers the decolonization of the curriculum, it is abundantly clear that the research and advocacy related to UDL originates almost exclusively from the Global North and from a Euro-Caucasian authorship. It is argued that it is high time for the way UDL has been monopolized by Global North scholars and practitioners to be challenged. Voices discussing and framing UDL, from the Global South and Indigenous communities, must be amplified and showcased in order to rectify this glaring imbalance and contradiction.
This session represents an opportunity for the author to reflect on a volume he has just finished editing entitled Decolonizing UDL and to highlight and share insights into the key innovations, promising practices, and calls for change, originating from the Global South and Indigenous Communities, that have woven the canvas of this book. Case hardening crucial for steel components that are subjected to severe or continuous impacts, high
temperatures and high pressures. It is a heat treatment process that produces the required attributes of a hard,
wear and fatigue resistant surface layer whilst maintaining a tough, durable core that allows for high stress

The global demand for clean steel has increased in the last years due to the demand for better performance.
There is need to develop steel with fewer inclusions to improve performance. Steel inclusions impede
performance as they may act as sources of crack growth and propagation. Some inclusions affect steel properties
such as fatigue, ductility and weldability. According to Riyahimalayeri et al. oxide inclusions reduce the rolling
contact fatigue life of steel products even when the total oxygen content is below the 10 ppm (Riyahimalayeri, et
al., 2013). Inclusions like sulphur reduce steel toughness which hinders performance. It is imperative to develop
