Telecom Clouds crossing borders, Chet Golding, Zefflin SystemsSriram Subramanian
This document discusses how OpenStack can help telecom companies transform by enabling cross-border communication and applications. The author argues that with over 6.8 billion cellphone users worldwide, telecom networks must support global connectivity and cloud-based applications and services. OpenStack allows telecoms to build public, private and hybrid clouds that can scale enormously while integrating with other technologies. This represents a new era for telecom where they become cloud companies enabling ubiquitous communication and access to data anywhere in the world.
The ability to deliver software is no longer a differentiator. In fact, it is a basic requirement for survival. Companies that embrace cloud native patterns of software delivery will survive; companies that don’t - will not.
In this webinar, we will:
- Look at the common patterns that distinguish cloud native companies and the architectures that they employ.
- Discover that an opinionated platform, one that stretches from the infrastructure all the way to the application framework, rather than ad-hoc automation, is an essential component to an enterprise's cloud native journey.
- Show that the combination of Pivotal Cloud Foundry and Spring is the complete cloud native platform.

Organizations have accepted that "cloud" is the de-facto platform of the future, and the benefits and flexibility it brings have ushered in a renaissance in software architecture. The disposable infrastructure of cloud has enabled the first "cloud native" architecture, microservices. continuous delivery, a technique that is radically changing how tech-based businesses evolve, amplifies the impact of cloud as an architecture. We expect architectural innovation to continue, with trends such as containerization and software-defined networking providing even more technical options and capability.
It's clear that Docker speeds up development and makes testing and deployment more efficient. As Docker moves into production new use cases and patterns are emerging that address availability and security concerns. With microservices, safety is part of the architecture that developers need to understand and build for. It's no longer good enough to wrap a firewall around an entire app when it goes to production, and have a cold standby in case it breaks.
Evolvable architecture for hybrid multicloud with sdnJames Kelly
3-part outline:
1. Why evolvable technology matter: technology agility is the brother of a) continuous improvement in processes and b) continuous learning in people
2. What is multicloud and hybrid cloud, Why end-to-end and top-to-bottom
3. What is evolvable and agile mean for multicloud IT platforms: in multiple layers of app/platform engineering, devops pipeline engineering, cluster ops and site reliability engineering, and IaaS or infrastructure & ops engineering - special focus on SDN here.
Cloud Native Computing: What does it mean, and is your app Cloud Native?Michael O'Sullivan
There is a growing choice of Cloud Platforms available today - these provide services and tooling for developers to deploy applications to the Cloud. The Cloud has brought considerations such as elastic scalability and distributed computing to the forefront of modern application architectures. Over time, a new type of application has now emerged, known as the Cloud Native Application. Such an application is said to be purpose-built for deployment on the Cloud. This has even led to a new paradigm known as Cloud Native Computing. In practice though, it is easy to be confused or unclear as to what Cloud Native means. How does a Cloud Native approach change the way in which developers code applications? How does this influence the architecture of an application? Does it force you to use a certain set of technologies such as Containers? Or, does it mean that an application that simply runs and scales on a distributed Cloud Platform is somehow considered to be running natively on the Cloud? Cloud Native Computing impacts on the answers to each of these questions, and applications running on the Cloud may not be considered Cloud Native at all.
In this talk, the meaning of Cloud Native will be explored and clarified. With practical examples where appropriate, the concepts behind a Cloud Native Application will be demonstrated. These examples will not only touch on the common terms and phrases around Cloud Native Computing such as DevOps, Microservices, The 12-Factor App methodology, but also on the technologies that have driven the creation this new paradigm, such as Cloud Foundry, Docker, and Kubernetes. How these technologies are used to deploy and scale Cloud Native Applications on "Platform as a Service" (PaaS) Cloud Platforms will also be presented.
At the conclusion, what is considered a Cloud Native Application and why should be clear - the attributes and typical architecture of such an application, as well as how technologies and PaaS services can be used to drive these applications on the cloud.
As the world resets, how do you inspire others to extraordinary performance at home, work, community? It starts with yourself. You need to ignite the powers of inspiration within your self by defining your passions & purpose and allowing these fires to light the same in others towards a compelling vision.
Large organisations will need CTOs to survive the digital revolution.
These CTOs will be former web developers, who know how to get things done on large architectures. Symfony developers will therefore be excellent candidates.
But with great power comes great responsibilities. Here are five important tips to keep in mind:
- stay lean
- be rational
- act as business leaders
- foster teamwork
- know that you know nothing
Good luck in your future responsibilities!

We find ourselves in the most global and unpredictable economy in history. Customer expectations turn on a dime, and competitors emerge from the most unexpected places. Success depends on our ability to quickly form teams that can operate with agility that are empowered to make the right decisions.
Today’s teams need to collaborate across business units and timezones, quickly find and share relevant information, understand what their teammates are working on and minimize the constant distractions from tools, meetings, and co-workers. Join us to see how IBM is using a lean approach combined with Design Thinking to team with our users to solve this problem to take teamwork to the next level.
Collaboration 3.0: 8 trends today that will define our tools tomorrowalexschiff
A lot of talk has been made of trends redefining the tools people use to collaborate and get things done: cloud computing, rise (and ubiquity) of mobile, consumerization of enterprise IT, etc. These aren't "predictions" anymore — they're well-accepted facts, and the opportunities to build large companies on this trend are getting smaller.
So, what's next? What will the third wave (details within) of collaboration look like? To answer that question, I turned to 18 product leaders and executives working in the field and asked, "What are the trends forming today that will redefine the tools we use to work together tomorrow?"
Effective communication is essential for team performance and success. When leaders communicate the vision and values clearly, the entire team understands the organization's culture and goals. Regular, transparent communication that focuses on team goals allows members to stay updated and collaboratively address any issues. To be a good leader-communicator, seek feedback to ensure messages are understood and choose the right medium for the message and person. Effective communication creates a united team that is more productive than individuals working alone.
Teamwork requires people with complementary skills committed to common goals and mutual accountability. Effective communication within a team includes downward communication from superiors to inform employees, upward communication for feedback and suggestions, and lateral communication among peer groups. Communication can be oral, written, or nonverbal, each with advantages and disadvantages depending on the situation. The goal is the transfer of meaning between individuals.

This time, we're diving into the murky waters of the Fuxnet malware, a brainchild of the illustrious Blackjack hacking group.
Let's set the scene: Moscow, a city unsuspectingly going about its business, unaware that it's about to be the star of Blackjack's latest production. The method? Oh, nothing too fancy, just the classic "let's potentially disable sensor-gateways" move.
In a move of unparalleled transparency, Blackjack decides to broadcast their cyber conquests on ruexfil.com. Because nothing screams "covert operation" like a public display of your hacking prowess, complete with screenshots for the visually inclined.
Ah, but here's where the plot thickens: the initial claim of 2,659 sensor-gateways laid to waste? A slight exaggeration, it seems. The actual tally? A little over 500. It's akin to declaring world domination and then barely managing to annex your backyard.
For Blackjack, ever the dramatists, hint at a sequel, suggesting the JSON files were merely a teaser of the chaos yet to come. Because what's a cyberattack without a hint of sequel bait, teasing audiences with the promise of more digital destruction?

Conversational agents, or chatbots, are increasingly used to access all sorts of services using natural language. While open-domain chatbots - like ChatGPT - can converse on any topic, task-oriented chatbots - the focus of this paper - are designed for specific tasks, like booking a flight, obtaining customer support, or setting an appointment. Like any other software, task-oriented chatbots need to be properly tested, usually by defining and executing test scenarios (i.e., sequences of user-chatbot interactions). However, there is currently a lack of methods to quantify the completeness and strength of such test scenarios, which can lead to low-quality tests, and hence to buggy chatbots.
To fill this gap, we propose adapting mutation testing (MuT) for task-oriented chatbots. To this end, we introduce a set of mutation operators that emulate faults in chatbot designs, an architecture that enables MuT on chatbots built using heterogeneous technologies, and a practical realisation as an Eclipse plugin. Moreover, we evaluate the applicability, effectiveness and efficiency of our approach on open-source chatbots, with promising results.
