Autonomous systems can help address challenges posed by COVID-19 in several ways: 1) Drones can monitor social distancing and enforce mask-wearing while also detecting infectious conditions through sensors and cameras. 2) Autonomous vehicles can provide contact-less transportation of goods during the outbreak. 3) Robots are being developed for throat swabbing tests to reduce risk to healthcare workers and enhance testing capacity. 4) Autonomous robots using UV light can disinfect surfaces to help overwhelmed hospitals.

Ubiquitous healthcare has become one of the prominent areas of research inorder to address the challenges encountered in healthcare environment. In contribution to this area, this study developed a system prototype that recommends diagonostic services based on physiological data collected in real time from a distant patient. The prototype uses WBAN body sensors to be worn by the individual and an android smart phone as a personal server. Physiological data is collected and uploaded to a Medical Health Server (MHS) via GPRS/internet to be analysed. Our implemented prototype monitors the activity, location and physiological data such as SpO2 and Heart Rate (HR) of the elderly and patients in rehabilitation. The uploaded information can be accessed in real time by medical practitioners through a web application.

Internet of Things (IoT) technology is used to enhance the safety of the elderly living in smart home environments and to help their caregivers. The daily behaviour of the elderly people is collected using IoT sensors and then evaluated to detect any abnormal behaviour. This research paper analyzes the smart home based anomaly detection system from a security perspective, to answer the question whether it is reliable and secure enough to leave elderly people alone in their smart homes. In this direction comparative analysis of literature is done to identify the potential security breaches on all layers of an IoT device. Further, this paper proposes a secure smart home model, built using Cisco Packet Tracer to simulate a network of IoT devices in a smart home environment. Consequently, a list of security countermeasures is proposed to protect the IoT devices from the identified attacks.

SUMMARY The COVID-19 pandemic has generated an unprecedented health crisis world-wide. Remote monitoring of COVID-19 patients is a crucial requirement since this enables continuous patient monitoring without compromising the safety of the health care provider. Remote monitoring using wearables can be obtrusive and uncomfortable for the user, especially when used for long periods of time. Advances in wireless transmission systems and signal processing have enabled researchers to monitor vital signs by analysing characteristics of wireless signals that have reflected off of the subject. Wireless signals for sensing vital signs has been developed since 2015 but there are still significant challenges to be overcome. One of the challenges in using wireless signals to monitor vital signs is that any motion in the environment affects the signal. Furthermore, the presence of multiple users prevents systems from operating error free, even if the users are stationary. The key player in the wireless vital signs monitoring is MIT’s Emerald Innovations with its wireless sensing technology that monitors breathing and heart rate without body contact. Another player is Origin Wireless with its Origin Health, that enables accurate respiratory, monitoring at home without intrusive wearables. ResMed and Microsoft/University of Washington are other players that have developed wireless vital signs monitoring technology. But they do not seem to be commercializing their technology for COVID-19. Though there are some developments in wireless vital signs technology, there are significant opportunities for other players to innovate. Interference, Patient Movements and multiple user differentiation are some of the problems that need to be addressed to improve the accuracy and sensitivity. The remote vital signs monitoring market is projected to reach US$31.326 billion by the end of 2023 and will become increasingly important and ubiquitous.

By enriching an environment with appropriate sensors and interconnected devices, the environment would be able to sense changes and support decisions that benefit the users of that environment. Such smart environments could help to reduce the energy consumption, increase user’s comfort, improve security and productivity, etc. One specific area of interest is the application of ambient intelligence in Ambient Assisted Living, where the home environment provides assistance with daily living activities for people with disabilities. In my presentation, I will provide a review of the technologies and environments that comprises ambient intelligence, as well as how changes in the environment are reflected in the overall design of an adaptive ambient intelligence environment.

تحت رعاية الاستاذ الدكتور / محمود صقر رئيس اكاديمية البحث العلمي و إشراف الأستاذ الدكتور/ أحمد جبر المشرف علي المجالس النوعية ورئاسة الاستاذ الدكتور / احمد الشربيني مقرر مجلس بحوث الاتصالات وتكنولوجيا المعلومات تم تنظيم ورشة عمل اليوم 7 نوفمبر بمقر اكاديمية البحث العلمي عن " دور الذكاء الاصطناعي وانترنت الاشياء في مكافحة التغيرات المناخية" وذلك بمناسبة انعقاد مؤتمر الاطراف للتغيرات المناخية COP27 والمنعقد بمدينة شرم الشيخ. وقد عرض المتحدثون وهم الاستاذ الدكتو. / ابو العلا حسانين عضو المجلس والاستاذ الدكتور / اشرف درويش عضو المجلس والدكتورة لبني ابو المجد دور وتطبيقات الذكاء الاصطناعي وانترنت الاشياء في مجالات متعددة ومرتبطة بالتغيرات المناخية منها الزراعة ، الطاقة، الصحة , الاقتصاد الاخضر ، النقل والمواصلات والتخطيط العمراني من اجل الحد من التاثيرات المناخية والتي تهدف الي تقليل نسب انبعاث غازات الاحتباس الحراري والتكيف مع التغيرات المناخية. امتدت ورشة العمل لاكثر من ثلاث ساعات. وشارك عدد كبير من الحضور من الجامعات والمراكز البحثية المختلفة ووسائل الاعلام. كما شارك بالحضور معالي الاستاذ الدكتور / عصام شرف رئيس وزراء مصر الاسبق. وفي نهاية ورشة العمل استعرض الاستاذ الدكتور الشربيني النتائج والتوصيات العامة لورشة العمل والتي بدورها تدعو الي تعزيز دور التكنولوجيا البازغة في مكافحة التغيرات المناخية.
