- Health promoting schools offer a holistic view of health, address the physical environment and relationships within the school, and link the school to local health services.
- School health programs aim to improve students' health through health services, instruction, and a supportive school environment. They help identify and address students' health needs.
- The goals are to establish good mental, physical and social health habits in students, provide health education, and foster cooperation between the school and community on health initiatives.
The document outlines the objectives, aspects, and components of an effective school health program. The key objectives are health promotion, prevention of health hazards, early diagnosis and treatment, and health education. The program involves periodic medical examinations, screening tests, clinical services, and survey studies. It also focuses on environmental health factors like sanitation, nutrition, and creating a suitable learning environment to support students' healthy development. The roles of teachers and school health physicians in implementing such a comprehensive school health program are also highlighted.
This document discusses the implementation of health promotion and education programs. It outlines the health promotion implementation (PIE) cycle which includes information collection, identifying health needs, selecting target groups, establishing goals and objectives, deciding content, selecting methods and media, identifying resources, and developing an evaluation plan. The key aspects of implementation are organizational and individual commitments to the action plan, committing financial resources, recruiting and training staff, conducting education sessions according to the plan, supervising and monitoring the program, and recording and reporting results.
Surveillance involves the ongoing collection and analysis of disease data to inform prevention and control measures. In Nepal, disease surveillance occurs through both routine monthly HMIS reporting from all health facilities, as well as sentinel surveillance through the Early Warning and Response System (EWARRS) which collects weekly data from selected sites. EWARRS focuses on priority diseases like polio, measles, neonatal tetanus, malaria, kala azar, and Japanese encephalitis to allow for early detection and response to outbreaks. The data collected through these surveillance systems are used for monitoring disease trends, outbreak detection, evaluating health services, and informing public health policies and programs.
The document discusses various concepts related to costs in health economics. It defines costs as the value of resources used for the production of good health. There are different types of costs including accounting costs, economic costs, opportunity costs, direct costs, indirect costs, average costs, and marginal costs. Accounting costs focus on past expenditures while economic costs also include opportunity costs. Direct costs are those directly related to an intervention while indirect costs are related to productivity losses. Understanding different types of costs is important for economic evaluation, priority setting, and making efficient management decisions in health care.
This document discusses key concepts in health economics, including:
- Scarcity of resources and unlimited wants create economic problems that require choices in allocating limited resources.
- Health economics applies economic theories to analyze the health sector, including demand and supply of health care, financing, and resource allocation.
- Health economics is relevant for health workers and policymakers to understand patient utility, predict behavior, support planning and policymaking, and promote efficient use of limited health resources.
The document discusses different concepts and methods of measuring national income. It defines national income as the total market value of all final goods and services produced in an economy in a given year. It describes three main methods to measure national income - the product method, income method, and expenditure method. The product method measures national income from the production side by sectors. The income method measures it from the distribution side by adding incomes of factors of production. The expenditure method measures it by adding total expenditures by individuals, businesses, and the government.
Price elasticity of demand measures the responsiveness of demand for a good to changes in price. It is calculated as the percentage change in quantity demanded divided by the percentage change in price. An elasticity between 0 and -1 indicates inelastic demand, while a value between -1 and -infinity indicates elastic demand. Knowledge of price elasticity allows economists to predict how spending will be affected by price changes. Income elasticity similarly measures responsiveness to changes in income. Cross price elasticity measures responsiveness of demand for one good to price changes of other goods and indicates whether goods are substitutes or complements. Price elasticity of supply also exists and is always positive, measuring responsiveness of supply to price changes of a good.
The document discusses health systems and financing. It begins by defining a health system as all actors, institutions, and resources that undertake health actions, with the primary intent of improving health. Not all policies that influence health are part of the health system. The document then discusses the goals of health systems, including improving health and ensuring financial contribution. It outlines the key functions of health systems as stewardship, financing, resource generation, and service delivery. The document emphasizes the importance of aligning financing with national health plans to avoid fragmentation. It also discusses concepts of coverage, effectiveness, and factors that influence health outcomes.
Health care demand is influenced by factors like education, income, and how health is viewed as both a consumption good and investment. Medical care includes goods and services that maintain, improve, or restore well-being. Characteristics of medical services include intangibility, inseparability of production and consumption, inability to maintain inventories, and inconsistent quality and composition across patients. Information asymmetry between providers and patients can influence treatment decisions, so providers should ensure patients have sufficient knowledge.
This document discusses key aspects of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). It defines CEDAW as an important international legal framework that aims to end all forms of gender discrimination and promote equality. Some main points covered include:
- CEDAW is based on principles of equality, non-discrimination, and state responsibility.
- It recognizes and seeks to abolish gender discrimination in political, economic, social, cultural and civil rights.
- The convention guarantees women's fundamental human rights and establishes legally binding standards to achieve gender equality.
This document defines and explains operational definitions. It states that an operational definition defines how a researcher will measure or manipulate a variable through specific procedures. This allows variables to be quantified and studied in an observable, measurable way. The document also differentiates between two types of operational definitions: measured operational definitions specify how a concept will be measured through tools like tests, while experimental operational definitions outline how a researcher will manipulate conditions in an experiment. Overall, good operational definitions precisely define procedures to allow for replication and help researchers objectively study abstract concepts.
This document defines variables and types of hypotheses in research. It explains that a variable is anything that varies, like qualities or behaviors, and can be measured. There are independent variables, which the researcher manipulates, and dependent variables, which are measured. Hypotheses make predictions about the relationship between variables. There are simple, complex, empirical, null, and alternative hypotheses. A causal hypothesis predicts cause and effect, while an associative hypothesis reflects natural relationships between non-manipulated variables.
This document summarizes Nepal's Essential Health Care Services and Free Health Care Programme. It defines Essential Health Care Services as basic health services provided equitably and cost-effectively by the government. The government aims to increase access to EHCS, especially for women, the poor, and rural populations. The Free Health Care Programme was created to safeguard citizens' right to basic care by making EHCS free of charge at many facilities. The program goals are to reduce health costs for vulnerable groups and address morbidity. It faces challenges in awareness, provider retention, quality, drug stockouts, and monitoring.
This document provides an overview of research methodology and key concepts in designing and conducting research. It discusses the objectives and types of research, including fundamental and applied research. The research process involves defining the problem, developing a research plan, implementing the plan by collecting and analyzing data, and reporting findings. Research design establishes the methods and procedures for obtaining needed information. It specifies tasks like determining the study scope, sample design, data collection and analysis techniques. The document also covers variables, sampling, data collection and the nature of data in research.
The document discusses three main topics:
1) It provides context on global health improvements from the 1950s to 2000 but notes many countries failed to share gains and AIDS threatened reversals. This led to three health-related Millennium Development Goals.
2) Progress toward the health-related MDGs has been slower than hoped and without expanded access to interventions, goals will likely be missed especially in sub-Saharan Africa.
3) Recent high-level meetings have aimed to identify opportunities to achieve MDGs and best practices, make country-level commitments and measurements, and support institutional changes globally, regionally and nationally with a focus on sub-Saharan Africa which is making the least progress.
This document discusses various quality processes and concepts including quality assurance, quality control, quality improvement, and total quality management. It defines each concept and describes the relationships between them. Quality assurance involves ensuring compliance to standards, quality control measures actual performance against expected standards, and quality improvement is a structured process to identify and implement improvements. Total quality management incorporates all these approaches and emphasizes continuous improvement through teamwork and a focus on customer needs. The document also outlines the key steps in a quality assurance cycle and roles/responsibilities of different stakeholders in quality improvement.
Quality assurance aims to close the gap between actual health care performance and desirable outcomes through systematic activities like setting standards, monitoring compliance, and improving quality. It benefits clients through better health outcomes and satisfaction, providers through a more satisfying work environment, and institutions through higher patient satisfaction and reputation. Ensuring quality requires perspectives from communities, providers, and managers to meet stakeholder needs.

Storyboard on Acne-Innovative Learning-M. pharm. (2nd sem.) CosmeticsMuskanShingari
Acne is a common skin condition that occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells. It typically manifests as pimples, blackheads, or whiteheads, often on the face, chest, shoulders, or back. Acne can range from mild to severe and may cause emotional distress and scarring in some cases.
**Causes:**
1. **Excess Oil Production:** Hormonal changes during adolescence or certain times in adulthood can increase sebum (oil) production, leading to clogged pores.
2. **Clogged Pores:** When dead skin cells and oil block hair follicles, bacteria (usually Propionibacterium acnes) can thrive, causing inflammation and acne lesions.
3. **Hormonal Factors:** Fluctuations in hormone levels, such as during puberty, menstrual cycles, pregnancy, or certain medical conditions, can contribute to acne.
4. **Genetics:** A family history of acne can increase the likelihood of developing the condition.
**Types of Acne:**
- **Whiteheads:** Closed plugged pores.
- **Blackheads:** Open plugged pores with a dark surface.
- **Papules:** Small red, tender bumps.
- **Pustules:** Pimples with pus at their tips.
- **Nodules:** Large, solid, painful lumps beneath the surface.
- **Cysts:** Painful, pus-filled lumps beneath the surface that can cause scarring.
**Treatment:**
Treatment depends on the severity and type of acne but may include:
- **Topical Treatments:** Such as benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, or retinoids to reduce bacteria and unclog pores.
- **Oral Medications:** Antibiotics or oral contraceptives for hormonal acne.
- **Procedures:** Such as chemical peels, extraction of comedones, or light therapy for more severe cases.
**Prevention and Management:**
- **Cleanse:** Regularly wash skin with a gentle cleanser.
- **Moisturize:** Use non-comedogenic moisturizers to keep skin hydrated without clogging pores.
- **Avoid Irritants:** Such as harsh cosmetics or excessive scrubbing.
- **Sun Protection:** Use sunscreen to prevent exacerbation of acne scars and inflammation.
Acne treatment can take time, and consistency in skincare routines and treatments is crucial. Consulting a dermatologist can help tailor a treatment plan that suits individual needs and reduces the risk of scarring or long-term skin damage.

Congestive Heart failure is caused by low cardiac output and high sympathetic discharge. Diuretics reduce preload, ACE inhibitors lower afterload, beta blockers reduce sympathetic activity, and digitalis has inotropic effects. Newer medications target vasodilation and myosin activation to improve heart efficiency while lowering energy requirements. Combination therapy, following an assessment of cardiac function and volume status, is the most effective strategy to heart failure care.
