Microsoft Telecommunications Industry News | November 2020Rick Lievano
The Microsoft Worldwide Telecommunications Industry team is pleased to share with you the November 2020 Telecommunications Industry Newsletter, available to both internal and external audiences. We encourage you to share it with your colleagues and distribute it to your customers and partners as appropriate.
Transforming to a digital business is a key theme across global communications service providers and many industry leaders are pursuing a new paradigm by leveraging agile new technologies, systems, and services to enable this transformation. This newsletter showcases how the telecommunications industry leverages Microsoft and partner technologies like 5G, cloud, artificial intelligence, big data, virtual network functions, and blockchain to accelerate the transformation to digital services.
Cyber-I, in association with Intel Security (formerly McAfee), recently delivered an executive over entitled "Security Trends Affecting Security Strategy".
The document provides an overview of Microsoft Azure services categorized into Compute, Data, Network, and App services that can be used in public cloud or on-premises cloud environments. It also discusses how Microsoft System Center 2012 R2 and Windows Server 2012 R2 products integrate with Microsoft Azure to provide management capabilities across on-premises, service provider, and Microsoft Azure environments.
The personal cloud will gradually replace the PC as individuals store personal content and access services from any device. A personal cloud provides access to files, photos, notes and other content from multiple devices. It allows individuals to define what data they store and share, what apps they use, and who can access their data and apps. Personal clouds connect to networks and access services to share data and messages with other personal clouds. By 2014, the personal cloud will become the primary way individuals access their digital content and services, replacing the PC.

MySQL InnoDB Storage Engine: Deep Dive - MydbopsMydbops
This presentation, titled "MySQL - InnoDB" and delivered by Mayank Prasad at the Mydbops Open Source Database Meetup 16 on June 8th, 2024, covers dynamic configuration of REDO logs and instant ADD/DROP columns in InnoDB.
This presentation dives deep into the world of InnoDB, exploring two ground-breaking features introduced in MySQL 8.0:
• Dynamic Configuration of REDO Logs: Enhance your database's performance and flexibility with on-the-fly adjustments to REDO log capacity. Unleash the power of the snake metaphor to visualize how InnoDB manages REDO log files.
• Instant ADD/DROP Columns: Say goodbye to costly table rebuilds! This presentation unveils how InnoDB now enables seamless addition and removal of columns without compromising data integrity or incurring downtime.
Key Learnings:
• Grasp the concept of REDO logs and their significance in InnoDB's transaction management.
• Discover the advantages of dynamic REDO log configuration and how to leverage it for optimal performance.
• Understand the inner workings of instant ADD/DROP columns and their impact on database operations.
• Gain valuable insights into the row versioning mechanism that empowers instant column modifications.
Elasticity vs. State? Exploring Kafka Streams Cassandra State StoreScyllaDB
kafka-streams-cassandra-state-store' is a drop-in Kafka Streams State Store implementation that persists data to Apache Cassandra.
By moving the state to an external datastore the stateful streams app (from a deployment point of view) effectively becomes stateless. This greatly improves elasticity and allows for fluent CI/CD (rolling upgrades, security patching, pod eviction, ...).
It also can also help to reduce failure recovery and rebalancing downtimes, with demos showing sporty 100ms rebalancing downtimes for your stateful Kafka Streams application, no matter the size of the application’s state.
As a bonus accessing Cassandra State Stores via 'Interactive Queries' (e.g. exposing via REST API) is simple and efficient since there's no need for an RPC layer proxying and fanning out requests to all instances of your streams application.
Supercell is the game developer behind Hay Day, Clash of Clans, Boom Beach, Clash Royale and Brawl Stars. Learn how they unified real-time event streaming for a social platform with hundreds of millions of users.
ScyllaDB is making a major architecture shift. We’re moving from vNode replication to tablets – fragments of tables that are distributed independently, enabling dynamic data distribution and extreme elasticity. In this keynote, ScyllaDB co-founder and CTO Avi Kivity explains the reason for this shift, provides a look at the implementation and roadmap, and shares how this shift benefits ScyllaDB users.
For senior executives, successfully managing a major cyber attack relies on your ability to minimise operational downtime, revenue loss and reputational damage.
Indeed, the approach you take to recovery is the ultimate test for your Resilience, Business Continuity, Cyber Security and IT teams.
Our Cyber Recovery Wargame prepares your organisation to deliver an exceptional crisis response.

MongoDB vs ScyllaDB: Tractian’s Experience with Real-Time MLScyllaDB
Tractian, an AI-driven industrial monitoring company, recently discovered that their real-time ML environment needed to handle a tenfold increase in data throughput. In this session, JP Voltani (Head of Engineering at Tractian), details why and how they moved to ScyllaDB to scale their data pipeline for this challenge. JP compares ScyllaDB, MongoDB, and PostgreSQL, evaluating their data models, query languages, sharding and replication, and benchmark results. Attendees will gain practical insights into the MongoDB to ScyllaDB migration process, including challenges, lessons learned, and the impact on product performance.

some cybercriminals now prefer
hijacking systems and using
them for cryptomining rather
than holding them for ransom.
“Malicious cyber actors are
demonstrating their efficiency
and agility by exploiting
the expanding digital attack
surface, taking advantage of
newly announced zero-day

Profitability for the channel also
continues to be a serious challenge.
This has necessitated channel
partners to identify ways to remain
profitable and relevant in the future.
Profitability has become a mirage –
the closer you get, the farther away
it looks. The only way partners can
be successful in the future is by
learning to sell business outcomes.
And in order to do that, partners
need to understand the industry they
are trying to sell to. They need to
understand that they are no longer
dealing with just the IT manager.
Partners can sell business
outcomes by picking an industry and
understanding the challenges that
need to be solved, then designing
customer specific solutions. I believe
partners need to get an ecosystem
going and get along with companies
that they historically competed with.
Collaboration is the way forward.
Also, partners need to transform
their individual businesses to the
digital era before they attempt
to become consultants for
customers. Digital transformation
is fundamental and will be part of
almost every single project that
partners will deliver. They need to
walk the talk and digitally transform
their own business first to capitalize
on future opportunities.
