The using of digital platforms can have a significant impact on the way rare diseases are diagnosed, studied, and treated, helping people with rare diseases connect to others worldwide. The RE(ACT) Community is human network born to share information and boost research about rare and orphan diseases. It has put at the heart of the #RAREvolution program the use of digital communication to empower the community of researchers working on rare diseases and to support them in connecting, learning and funding their projects as well as increasing awareness and advocacy for rare disease research.

The speech focuses on digital innovation from the point of view of a pharmaceutical company: how technology can integrate the offer of drugs and therapeutic solutions for the healthcare and well-being of citizens. Last year the app I-nonni was presented as a Sanofi start-up project with the primary goal of connecting the older adults with relatives and health professionals, such as doctors and pharmacists, in an easy and effective way. This year the progress in the services offered will be presented, as well as a study proving the effectiveness of the digital fitness tool that we developed with the aim of training the cognitive abilities of older adults (and not only).

Over 100 health and Development organisations, including several IAPB members, sign advocacy letter to body working on SDGs monitoring framework Universal health coverage (UHC) is a target under the health goal for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be finalised in September 2015. The UHC target is a key one for eye health – there is a need for a more sustainable, universal approach to health and comprehensive building up of health system capacities, within which eye health can be integrated, as acknowledged in the “Universal eye health; A global action plan 2014 -2019” (GAP). Further, the recent joint WHO/ World Bank report ‘Tracking Universal Health Coverage First Global Monitoring Report’, recognises the usefulness of cataract surgical coverage as an indicator to contribute to measuring success in universal health coverage. However, current proposals for measuring UHC within the SDGs fall far short of expectations. IAPB and many members have joined health NGOs in a call to the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on SDG Indicators (IAEG-SDGs) to review and improve upon their proposal. The IAEG-SDGs are proposing to measure only one component of UHC, either financial risk protection or health service coverage. As has been made clear by civil society partners, the WHO and World Bank, UHC comprises both measures and measuring only one component would give a worryingly incomplete picture of progress which may negatively affect SDG implementation, and it could reduce possibilities for entry points for advocating for eye health inclusion when it comes to setting national level priorities. Measurement largely directs policy and SDG indicators will have significant consequences for SDG implementation. The IAEG – SDGs is made up of a number of member states’ national statistic offices. This study was carried out on knowledge and prevalence of hiv/aids among suya vendors in kafanchan of jema’a local government area of kaduna state. To achieve this objective, the researcher developed and administered a questionnaire on eighty respondents. The likert scale statistical and graphical method was used in testing the null hypothesis. From the study, It was observed that The society or public authority do not educate Suya Vendors about Hiv/Aids. Economic status and educational background among Suya Vendors do not determine their knowledge of Hiv/Aids. It was also discovered that parents, religious leaders or government responsible for Hiv/Aids among Suya Vendors. It was observed that that All Suya Vendors are not knowledgeable about their Hiv Status. It was also observed that Suya Vendors negligent in knowing their status. that Suya Vendors do not tell their sexual partners about their Hiv Status. That Suya Vendors have multiple sexual partners. Both the state and federal government should take on joint projects to combat AIDS at the border areas. Projects including training, counselling, public meeting and rallies may be undertaken for awareness-building to this effect. The government should set up blood testing centre across that will be easily accessible, so that the people at Kafanchan municipal areas can get free access to HIV/AIDS testing. Educational Programmes about safe sex should be provided to the illiterate mass. Radio, TV programmes, visual aids and multimedia on AIDS should be produced to augment their awareness level.

The authors believe testing this idea of a temporary abstinence month could provide an easy to implement, cost-effective strategy for hard hit communities to address HIV.

We live in a connected world: every single action we take, every single move we have, every single chat we make, we deliver information and data to a server. People, companies, institutions are so full of data that they don’t even know where to start from. Moreover, analyzing all this mass of information is not that easy and the so called Big Data are changing the perimeters and the approach we need to have while analyzing data: we were used to analyze a small set of data, with a specific error prediction, with a standardized process… now everything has changed. We need to change too. But the spontaneous digital data don’t tell us everything: they don’t tell the why, they don’t tell how to surprise our consumers, they don’t tell how to engage with silent information, they don’t tell about the potential unexpressed by behaviors. This is why we need to integrate, mix, mash data coming from different perspectives, different sources, different collection methods.
