This field-based study examines whether student teachers are committed to formative assessment. A survey was administered to student teachers to assess their cognitive, affective, and applied commitment. The analysis found that while student teachers believe formative assessment is valuable, they do not feel they received sufficient training and emphasis on strategies from their education program. They plan to use formative assessment but feel they lack practical experience through activities like lesson planning and practicums. The conclusion is that more emphasis and hands-on training in formative assessment strategies is needed for education students to feel fully prepared to apply them.
