Eucalyptus is an open source software that implements Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) in private or hybrid cloud environments. It groups virtualized infrastructure resources to provide storage, networking, and computing resources as cloud services. Eucalyptus was originally developed at UC Santa Barbara and later became a commercial company called Eucalyptus Systems. Eucalyptus Systems partnered with Amazon Web Services to allow transferring of instances between private Eucalyptus clouds and Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud. Eucalyptus supports virtual machines of Linux and Windows and is compatible with Amazon EC2 APIs, S3 storage, and other AWS services.
