Cloud computing is a technology that was developed a decade ago to provide uninterrupted, scalable services to users and organizations. Cloud computing has also become an attractive feature for mobile users due to the limited features of mobile devices. The combination of cloud technologies with mobile technologies resulted in a new area of computing called mobile cloud computing. This combined technology is used to augment the resources existing in Smart devices. In recent times, Fog computing, Edge computing, and Clone Cloud computing techniques have become the latest trends after mobile cloud computing, which have all been developed to address the limitations in cloud computing. This paper reviews these recent technologies in detail and provides a comparative study of them. It also addresses the differences in these technologies and how each of them is effective for organizations and developers.

Despite the advances in hardware for hand-held mobile devices, resource-intensive applications (e.g., video and imagestorage and processing or map-reduce type) still remain off bounds since they require large computation and storage capabilities.Recent research has attempted to address these issues by employing remote servers, such as clouds and peer mobile devices.For mobile devices deployed in dynamic networks (i.e., with frequent topology changes because of node failure/unavailability andmobility as in a mobile cloud), however, challenges of reliability and energy efficiency remain largely unaddressed. To the best of ourknowledge, we are the first to address these challenges in an integrated manner for both data storage and processing in mobilecloud, an approach we call k-out-of-n computing. In our solution, mobile devices successfully retrieve or process data, in the mostenergy-efficient way, as long as k out of n remote servers are accessible. Through a real system implementation we prove the feasibilityof our approach. Extensive simulations demonstrate the fault tolerance and energy efficiency performance of our framework in largerscale networks.

In supporting its large scale, multidisciplinary scientific research efforts across all the university campuses and by the research personnel spread over literally every corner of the state, the state of Nevada needs to build and leverage its own Cyber infrastructure. Following the well-established as-a-service model, this state-wide Cyber infrastructure that consists of data acquisition, data storage, advanced instruments, visualization, computing and information processing systems, and people, all seamlessly linked together through a high-speed network, is designed and operated to deliver the benefits of Cyber infrastructure-as-aService (CaaS).There are three major service groups in this CaaS, namely (i) supporting infrastructural services that comprise sensors, computing/storage/networking hardware, operating system, management tools, virtualization and message passing interface (MPI); (ii) data transmission and storage services that provide connectivity to various big data sources, as well as cached and stored datasets in a distributed storage backend; and (iii) processing and visualization services that provide user access to rich processing and visualization tools and packages essential to various scientific research workflows. Built on commodity hardware and open source software packages, the Southern Nevada Research Cloud(SNRC)and a data repository in a separate location constitute a low cost solution to deliver all these services around CaaS. The service-oriented architecture and implementation of the SNRC are geared to encapsulate as much detail of big data processing and cloud computing as possible away from end users; rather scientists only need to learn and access an interactive web-based interface to conduct their collaborative, multidisciplinary, dataintensive research. The capability and easy-to-use features of the SNRC are demonstrated through a use case that attempts to derive a solar radiation model from a large data set by regression analysis.

Internet of Things (IoT) evolves very rapidly over time, since everything such as sensors/actuators linked together from around the world with use of evolution of ubiquitous computing through the Internet. These devices have a unique IP address in order to communicate with each other and transmit data with features of wireless technologies. Fog computing or so called edge computing brings all Cloud features to embedded devices at edge network and adds more features to servers like pre-store data of Cloud, fast response, and generate overhasty users reporting. Fog mediates between Cloud and IoT devices and thus enables new types of computing and services. The future applications take the advantage of combing the two concepts Fog and Cloud in order to provide low delay Fog-based and high capacity of storage Cloud-based. This paper proposes an IoT architecture for healthcare network based on Fog to Cloud and Data in Motion (F2CDM). The proposed architecture is designed and implemented over three sites: Site 1 contains the embedded devices layer, Site 2 consists of the Fog network layer, while Site 3 consists of the Cloud network. The Fog layer is represented by a middleware server in Al-Nahrain University with temporary storage such that the data lives inside for 30 min. During this time, the selection of up-normality in behavior is send to the Cloud while the rest of the data is wiped out. On the other hand, the Cloud stores all the incoming data from Fog permanently. The F2CDM works using Message Queue Telemetry Transport (MQTT) for fast response. The results show that all data can be monitored from the Fog in real time while the critical data can be monitored from Cloud. In addition, the response time is evaluated using traffic generator called Tsung. It has been found that the proposed architecture reduces traffic on Cloud network and provides better data analysis.

This paper provides a review of orchestration distributed systems for IoT smart services in fog computing. The cloud infrastructure alone cannot handle the flow of information with the abundance of data, devices and interactions. Thus, fog computing becomes a new paradigm to overcome the problem. One of the first challenges was to build the orchestration systems to activate the clouds and to execute tasks throughout the whole system that has to be considered to the situation in the large scale of geographical distance, heterogeneity and low latency to support the limitation of cloud computing. Some problems exist for orchestration distributed in fog computing are to fulfil with high reliability and low-delay requirements in the IoT applications system and to form a larger computer network like a fog network, at different geographic sites. This paper reviewed approximately 68 articles on orchestration distributed system for fog computing. The result shows the orchestration distribute system and some of the evaluation criteria for fog computing that have been compared in terms of Borg, Kubernetes, Swarm, Mesos, Aurora, heterogeneity, QoS management, scalability, mobility, federation, and interoperability. The significance of this study is to support the researcher in developing orchestration distributed systems for IoT smart services in fog computing focus on IR4.0 national agenda.

Building a Recommender System for Publications using Vector Space Model and Python:In recent years, it has become very common that we have access to large number of publications on similar or related topics. Recommendation systems for publications are needed to locate appropriate published articles from a large number of publications on the same topic or on similar topics. In this talk, I will describe a recommender system framework for PubMed articles. PubMed is a free search engine that primarily accesses the MEDLINE database of references and abstracts on life-sciences and biomedical topics. The proposed recommender system produces two types of recommendations – i) content-based recommendation and (ii) recommendations based on similarities with other users’ search profiles. The first type of recommendation, viz., content-based recommendation, can efficiently search for material that is similar in context or topic to the input publication. The second mechanism generates recommendations using the search history of users whose search profiles match the current user. The content-based recommendation system uses a Vector Space model in ranking PubMed articles based on the similarity of content items. To implement the second recommendation mechanism, we use python libraries and frameworks. For the second method, we find the profile similarity of users, and recommend additional publications based on the history of the most similar user. In the talk I will present the background and motivation for these recommendation systems, and discuss the implementations of this PubMed recommendation system with example. This talk will cover, via live demo & code walk-through, the key lessons we’ve learned while building such real-world software systems over the past few years. We’ll incrementally build a hybrid machine learned model for fraud detection, combining features from natural language processing, topic modeling, time series analysis, link analysis, heuristic rules & anomaly detection. We’ll be looking for fraud signals in public email datasets, using Python & popular open-source libraries for data science and Apache Spark as the compute engine for scalable parallel processing.

This webinar will delve into the motivations behind establishing LF Energy’s Carbon Data Specification Consortium. It will provide an overview of the draft specifications and the ongoing progress made by the respective working groups. Mutation Testing for Task-Oriented Chatbots

Conversational agents, or chatbots, are increasingly used to access all sorts of services using natural language. While open-domain chatbots - like ChatGPT - can converse on any topic, task-oriented chatbots - the focus of this paper - are designed for specific tasks, like booking a flight, obtaining customer support, or setting an appointment. Like any other software, task-oriented chatbots need to be properly tested, usually by defining and executing test scenarios (i.e., sequences of user-chatbot interactions). However, there is currently a lack of methods to quantify the completeness and strength of such test scenarios, which can lead to low-quality tests, and hence to buggy chatbots. To fill this gap, we propose adapting mutation testing (MuT) for task-oriented chatbots. To this end, we introduce a set of mutation operators that emulate faults in chatbot designs, an architecture that enables MuT on chatbots built using heterogeneous technologies, and a practical realisation as an Eclipse plugin. Moreover, we evaluate the applicability, effectiveness and efficiency of our approach on open-source chatbots, with promising results.
