Google launched its new conversational AI system Bard in February 2023 to compete with ChatGPT. However, Bard made a fatal error in misrepresenting information about a telescope used to capture the first images of a planet outside our solar system. This caused Google's parent company Alphabet to lose $100 billion in market share. The author believes Bard has potential to surpass ChatGPT in the future due to access to more up-to-date online information and use of stronger dialogue applications. Conversational bots will be widely implemented by businesses to handle different situations and could become the dominant form of digital marketing for decades to come.

Niranjana argues that colonial translations constructed enduring Orientalist representations of colonized subjects that justified imperial rule. Translation contributed to a hierarchical model of cultures and English education reinforced colonial views. Postcolonial theory challenges these representations and aims to rewrite history without essentialism. While complicit with colonialism, translation also holds potential for resistance if its role in power dynamics is interrogated and epistemological assumptions are questioned.
The document discusses I.A. Richards' 1929 work "Practical Criticism", which pioneered the technique of close reading and isolating texts from their historical context. It emphasizes analyzing the words on the page rather than relying on knowledge of the author or historical context. This relates to Roland Barthes' later concept of "The Death of the Author", which argues that the author's identity and intentions should not determine a work's meaning or criticism of it. Practical Criticism suggests avoiding personal and historical contexts and focusing on the text itself, collectively.

F. Scott Fitzgerald explores themes of wealth, social class, and the American Dream in his classic novel The Great Gatsby. The story follows Jay Gatsby, a self-made millionaire, as he tries to win back his former love Daisy Buchanan, who is from old money. Fitzgerald critiques the culture of materialism in the 1920s and how the pursuit of wealth and status often leads to tragedy, as it does for Gatsby. The characters represent both those who acquired wealth recently, like Gatsby, and those born into wealth and status, like the Buchanans. Fitzgerald drew from his own experiences trying to achieve success and the American Dream to portray its hollowness in the novel.

Decolonizing Universal Design for LearningFrederic Fovet
UDL has gained in popularity over the last decade both in the K-12 and the post-secondary sectors. The usefulness of UDL to create inclusive learning experiences for the full array of diverse learners has been well documented in the literature, and there is now increasing scholarship examining the process of integrating UDL strategically across organisations. One concern, however, remains under-reported and under-researched. Much of the scholarship on UDL ironically remains while and Eurocentric. Even if UDL, as a discourse, considers the decolonization of the curriculum, it is abundantly clear that the research and advocacy related to UDL originates almost exclusively from the Global North and from a Euro-Caucasian authorship. It is argued that it is high time for the way UDL has been monopolized by Global North scholars and practitioners to be challenged. Voices discussing and framing UDL, from the Global South and Indigenous communities, must be amplified and showcased in order to rectify this glaring imbalance and contradiction.
This session represents an opportunity for the author to reflect on a volume he has just finished editing entitled Decolonizing UDL and to highlight and share insights into the key innovations, promising practices, and calls for change, originating from the Global South and Indigenous Communities, that have woven the canvas of this book. The session seeks to create a space for critical dialogue, for the challenging of existing power dynamics within the UDL scholarship, and for the emergence of transformative voices from underrepresented communities. The workshop will use the UDL principles scrupulously to engage participants in diverse ways (challenging single story approaches to the narrative that surrounds UDL implementation) , as well as offer multiple means of action and expression for them to gain ownership over the key themes and concerns of the session (by encouraging a broad range of interventions, contributions, and stances).
