Public Bicycle Sharing (PBS) systems have been recognized by cities around the world as a useful and beneficial public transport service. India has yet to see the implementation of a city-wide PBS system, despite numerous local and neighborhood scale pilot initiatives across the country. However, several Indian cities are now in the advanced stages of developing large scale PBS systems. In this webinar, Mr. Ashwin Prabhu and Ms. Ranjana Menon provided an overview of the lessons learnt from this process, and the particular challenges of implementing PBS systems in Indian cities.

Medford, a metropolitan city in Southern Oregon, is updating its transportation system plan (TSP). Under Oregon's Transportation Planning Rule (OAR 660-12), the City is required to provide a "safe and convenient" transportation network for all modes of travel: motor vehicles, pedestrians and people riding bicycles. The presentation focuses on why an "all ages and abilities" approach to the development of a bicycle network is essential to achieving the requirements of Oregon law and thus provide a "safe and convenient" network for bicycles.
This project aimed to promote the use of bicycles over motor vehicles on the LPU campus. The team conducted interviews and surveys to analyze awareness levels and gather feedback. They found that while many students support biking for short distances or health benefits, more awareness is still needed. Data showed the Netherlands has the highest rate of biking at 99.1%, while India could improve road safety for cyclists. The presence of HEXI bike stands on campus was seen as a positive step, but maintenance of dedicated cycling tracks country-wide is still lacking. The results suggest continuing efforts to educate the LPU community on the environmental and health advantages of biking.

It aims to make electric bikes more accessible and affordable in India by creating a kit that is cheap, simple to install, and can easily be attached or detached from the bicycle. The kit will use a clutch system to connect an electric motor to the rear wheel sprocket. It will allow the user to switch between electric assist, pedal assist, and no motor. The goals are to retrofit standard bicycles easily and inexpensively while keeping additional weight low. The project is inspired by the Copenhagen Wheel but aims to address its limitations.

The majority of riders opt for traditional bikes; about 8% of riders use the assistive options. Cyclistic users are more likely to ride for leisure, but about 30% use them to commute to work each day. The director of marketing believes the company’s future success depends on maximizing the number of annual memberships. Therefore, we need to understand how casual riders and annual members use Cyclistic bikes differently. From these insights, the marketing team will design a new marketing strategy to convert casual riders into annual members.

Decolonizing Universal Design for LearningFrederic Fovet
UDL has gained in popularity over the last decade both in the K-12 and the post-secondary sectors. The usefulness of UDL to create inclusive learning experiences for the full array of diverse learners has been well documented in the literature, and there is now increasing scholarship examining the process of integrating UDL strategically across organisations. One concern, however, remains under-reported and under-researched. Much of the scholarship on UDL ironically remains while and Eurocentric. Even if UDL, as a discourse, considers the decolonization of the curriculum, it is abundantly clear that the research and advocacy related to UDL originates almost exclusively from the Global North and from a Euro-Caucasian authorship. It is argued that it is high time for the way UDL has been monopolized by Global North scholars and practitioners to be challenged. Voices discussing and framing UDL, from the Global South and Indigenous communities, must be amplified and showcased in order to rectify this glaring imbalance and contradiction.
This session represents an opportunity for the author to reflect on a volume he has just finished editing entitled Decolonizing UDL and to highlight and share insights into the key innovations, promising practices, and calls for change, originating from the Global South and Indigenous Communities, that have woven the canvas of this book. The session seeks to create a space for critical dialogue, for the challenging of existing power dynamics within the UDL scholarship, and for the emergence of transformative voices from underrepresented communities.
