The 2014 elections in Bahia, Brazil will be decisive for shaping the future of both. Voters can defeat the current rulers in Bahia who have failed to resolve economic crises and instead adopted a neoliberal model. They have also shown incompetence in managing public finances. Brazil also faces a choice between maintaining the status quo of previous neoliberal, anti-national governments or electing leaders committed to national interests and economic progress. The author argues that candidates must present concrete plans to change the economic and social situations in both Bahia and Brazil.
