This document is a lab report submitted by six students to their lecturer for a textiles course. It details an experiment conducted to measure yarn count using a reel and electronic balance. The report provides background on yarn count and its importance. It then describes the methodology, which involved wrapping yarn on a reel, measuring the length and weighing the sample. The calculations determined the yarn count to be 30s. The conclusion restates the importance of understanding yarn count in textiles.

Testing of Textiles (Lab) Experiment No. 01 Experiment Name: Study on Yarn Count Measurement by Using Reel and Electronic Balance. Theory: Yarn countis the numerical value which is expressed as the weight per unit length or length per unit weight. Englishcottoncount: No. of 840yd lengths per pound. Formula: (For IndirectSystem) 𝑵 = 𝒘 × 𝑳 𝒍 ×𝑾 Where, N= yarn count w= unit of weight of the sample W= weight of the sample L= length of the sample l= unit length of sample Objectives of Yarn Count :  Yarn countindicates fitness, thickness and coarseness of yarn.  Yarn Count helps to producespecific quality of yarn.  Yarn compressibility and their effect on fabric quality is important to both the fabric designer and the textile technologist  To determination of an accurate value for the sample length.  Yarn diameter is used to predict fabric structuralparameters such as width, cover factor, porosity, and fabric comfortand so on.  To determination of an accurate value for its weight and so on.
Method:  At first wrap reel is adjusted properly so that yarn is passed fromthe cone through the guides  The length of the sample is measured by the wrap reel counter  In caseof cotton, the circumferenceof wrap reel is 1.5 yd and required yarn is 120 yards.  In caseof cotton, wrap reel is driven by motor and in jute wrap reel is manually operated. In case of cotton wrap stops automatically when the specified amount of yarn is wound on it.  Then the sample is weighted by balance. Calculation: Weight = 𝟐.𝟏𝟓𝟖 𝟒𝟓𝟑.𝟔 = .0047574956 lbs (gramconverted into pound) Ne= 𝟏𝟐𝟎 𝟖𝟒𝟎 × 𝟏 .𝟎𝟎𝟒𝟕𝟓𝟕 =30s Result: Yarn countmeasurement by using real and electric balance is Ne =30s Conclusion: Yarn countis mainly determined for the purposeof indicates the fitness, thickness and coarseness of yarn. So it is necessary to develop our knowledgeabout yarn count before starting work not only for yarn but in the textile world.

  • 2. Testing of Textiles (Lab) Experiment No. 01 Experiment Name: Study on Yarn Count Measurement by Using Reel and Electronic Balance. Theory: Yarn countis the numerical value which is expressed as the weight per unit length or length per unit weight. Englishcottoncount: No. of 840yd lengths per pound. Formula: (For IndirectSystem) 𝑵 = 𝒘 × 𝑳 𝒍 ×𝑾 Where, N= yarn count w= unit of weight of the sample W= weight of the sample L= length of the sample l= unit length of sample Objectives of Yarn Count :  Yarn countindicates fitness, thickness and coarseness of yarn.  Yarn Count helps to producespecific quality of yarn.  Yarn compressibility and their effect on fabric quality is important to both the fabric designer and the textile technologist  To determination of an accurate value for the sample length.  Yarn diameter is used to predict fabric structuralparameters such as width, cover factor, porosity, and fabric comfortand so on.  To determination of an accurate value for its weight and so on.

Method:  At first wrap reel is adjusted properly so that yarn is passed fromthe cone through the guides  The length of the sample is measured by the wrap reel counter  In caseof cotton, the circumferenceof wrap reel is 1.5 yd and required yarn is 120 yards.  In caseof cotton, wrap reel is driven by motor and in jute wrap reel is manually operated. In case of cotton wrap stops automatically when the specified amount of yarn is wound on it.  Then the sample is weighted by balance. Calculation: Weight = 𝟐.𝟏𝟓𝟖 𝟒𝟓𝟑.𝟔 = .0047574956 lbs (gramconverted into pound) Ne= 𝟏𝟐𝟎 𝟖𝟒𝟎 × 𝟏 .𝟎𝟎𝟒𝟕𝟓𝟕 =30s Result: Yarn countmeasurement by using real and electric balance is Ne =30s Conclusion: Yarn countis mainly determined for the purposeof indicates the fitness, thickness and coarseness of yarn. So it is necessary to develop our knowledgeabout yarn count before starting work not only for yarn but in the textile world.
