Actor Priyanka Chopra's celebrated former New York City restaurant, Sona, is set to cease operations after more than three years of serving modern Indian cuisine to a discerning clientele. Renowned for its sophisticated ambience and frequented by celebrities, Sona announced via Instagram that its last day of service will be June 30.
“After more than three remarkable years, Sona will be closing. We have immense gratitude for everyone who walked through our doors. It’s been our greatest honor to serve you,” read an excerpt from the restaurant’s official statement. “SONA’s final service will be brunch on Sunday, June 30.”
Co-founded in 2021 by Priyanka Chopra and Maneesh Goyal, Sona quickly became a hotspot for its take on Indian fare. However, in 2023, nearly two years after its opening, Chopra stepped away from the venture.
The restaurant's opening was marked by a special puja, attended by Chopra and her husband, Nick Jonas, and other friends and family.
Goyal, in an emotional note on Instagram, shared his journey with Sona.
“I decided to do something as seemingly nonsensical as open a restaurant—my first-ever, in my mid-4Os, in the midst of a pandemic, in the heart of New York. But, at its core, it was a tribute to my Dad; I deeply wanted to follow in his footsteps,” Goyal began.
He spoke about the highs the restaurant saw.
“As I near the end of this monumental chapter, I could not be more proud. We accomplished so much—from a remarkable New York Times review to being a haven for the LGBT community. Realizing SONA has been the honor of my lifetime,” he continued.
Goyal ended his note with: “From the depths of my heart, thank you to everyone who helped make my dream come true.”
As Sona prepares to bid farewell, Priyanka Chopra is currently filming "The Bluff" in Australia, a new project alongside Karl Urban, set to stream on Prime Video.
