Gordon Ramsay had an important message to share on Father's Day: "Wear a helmet." The celebrity chef took to social media to share that he was feeling shaken after a "really bad" cycling accident in the US earlier this week.
The 57-year-old star of Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares and Hell's Kitchen thanked the state's Lawrence and Memorial Hospital's trauma surgeons and nurses who looked after him. He also clarified that he did not "break any bones or suffer any major injuries" but was "a bit bruised up looking like a purple potato".
In a video on X, Ramsay lifted his chef's whites to show heavy purple bruising on his torso. "I'm in pain," he said. 'It's been a brutal week. And I'm sort of getting through it."
An important #FathersDay message from me…WEAR A HELMET ! This week I had a bad accident while riding my bike in CT. I'm doing ok and I’m thankful for all the doctors, nurses and staff at @LMHospital who looked after me but most thankful for my helmet that saved my life. In a message to "all the dads out there", he added that guidance becomes even more important when it comes to cycling with children. "I don't care how short the journey is... they've got to wear a helmet".
On Instagram, he also shared a before and after photograph showing substantial damage to his helmet. "I want to wish you all a happy Father's Day, but please, please, please wear a helmet. If I didn't, honestly, I wouldn't be here now."
