ABSTRACT
In Vietnam, as far as the figures of transboundary animal diseases are concerned, the Food and Mouth
disease (FMD), the poultry highly pathogenic Avian influenza (HPAI), the porcine reproductive and
respiratory syndrome (PRRS) are considered the most prevalent and are causing devastating economic
losses in this country. The FMD was first recorded in Vietnam in 1885 and the serotype O was
predominantly recorded (with different sub-serotypes), which caused a wave of outbreaks periodically
every 2-3 years. The serotype A and serotype Asia 1 emerged in 2003 and 2005 respectively. Currently, at
least 3 sub-serotype O, 2 sub-serotype A and 2 sub-serotype Asia 1 have been identified in Vietnam,
Outbreaks occur almost every year. On the other hand, the PRRS was first recorded in 2000 as sero-
positive but no outbreak occurred till 2007. Three different genotypes are illustrated as coexisting and
circulating in Vietnam. The HPAI outbreak was due to H5N1, which was first recorded in 2003. The three
main waves of outbreaks which were followed by the epidemic situation (with evolution of different
clades) made it more complex. Relevant control measures as well as the development of vaccines from the
local isolates are discussed. Besides, the situation of such important zoonosis such as rabies, trichinella
is conveyed intentionally toward collaboration.

Live animal markets have contributed to the spread of zoonotic diseases like avian influenza and coronaviruses. In Southeast Asia, these markets often mix domestic and wild species in unsanitary conditions, allowing viruses to jump between animal hosts and potentially to humans. The first cases of SARS, MERS, and COVID-19 have all been linked to exposure at live animal markets in China, where bats and other wild animals infected domestic livestock. By contrast, live animal markets in the US have strict controls to prevent the introduction of exotic species and do not associate with disease emergence, as animals come from registered sources and are of single species. Uncontrolled live animal markets will continue enabling zoonotic viruses to spillover to humans

It was eradicated from the US in the 1980s but outbreaks have occurred since 2008, threatening the US horse industry. The pathogens, Babesia caballi and Theileria equi, are transmitted by ticks and cause fever, anemia, and jaundice in horses. Prevention relies on acaricide application and inspecting horses for ticks. No vaccine currently exists so control focuses on limiting tick exposure and testing/quarantining imported and high-risk horses.

This study examined the seroprevalence of brucellosis in small ruminants in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia. Blood samples were collected from 159 sheep and 265 goats and tested for Brucella antibodies. The overall seroprevalence was found to be 2.6%, with 1.9% in sheep and 3.0% in goats. There was no significant difference in prevalence between age groups, sexes, or species. Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome – Russia (07): Tatarstan Archive Number 20081002.3106 Published Date 02-Oct-2008 The Republic of Tatarstan in Russia has experienced an increased incidence in Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS) for this year. The current report states the incidence for 2008 is seven times greater than reported for 2007. Between September 19 and 25, 2008, 29 confirmed or suspected cases were reported (International Society for Infectious Diseases [ISID], 2008a). This is in addition to outbreaks reported earlier this year. According to the Russian Epidemiological Surveillance System, there were 165 cases reported as of July. Cases increased from 65 on July 4 to 165 by July 22 (ISID, 2008b). Only one fatality has been reported at this time; generally, case fatality rates for HFRS range from 1% to 15%. Approximately 11% of total cases reported so far in 2008 have occurred in the capital city of Kazan. The majority of other cases have occurred in rural, forest areas of Tatarstan. The most recent outbreak of 29 cases has occurred in the following cities: Kazan (10), Naberezhnye Chenly (8), Nizhnekamiskiy (3), Almetievskiy (3), Sabinskiy (2), Kukmorshiy (1), and Bavlinskiy (1) (ISID, 2008a). The Republic of Tatarstan is located in eastern Russia, about 800 kilometers southeast of Moscow (Department of Foreign Affairs to the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, 2008). As of 2002, the population of Tatarstan was 3,779,265, with an urban/rural population of 2,790,661 and 988,604, respectively. HFRS is endemic to Tatarstan and surrounding republics in eastern Russia (ISID, 2008a). Other geographic areas with endemic HFRS include Scandinavia, Western Europe, and the Balkans. The Puumala virus spread by the bank vole is the likely cause of the disease in Russia, Western Europe and Scandinavia. The Dobrava virus is found in the Balkans and the Seoul virus may occur worldwide. All viruses are part of the Hantavirus classification. Hantavirus is transmitted to humans by vector rodents such as voles and field mice (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2005). According to research conducted by Alla Bernshtein and colleagues of the Chunakov Institute in Moscow, natural increases and decreases of the bank vole population occur every three to four years. In years of higher vole populations, the incidence of human HFRS increases (ISID, 2008c). Experts speculate a number of factors have contributed to the rise above endemic levels of human HFRS in Tatarstan and surrounding regions. First, an increase in the bank vole population may be a result of climate changes. Less harsh winters and warmer summers allow for better access to food sources for the rodents. This study examined the prevalence of infectious bursal disease (IBD) in backyard chickens in central Ethiopia by testing serum samples from 552 chickens. The results found that 83% of samples tested positive for IBD antibodies. Higher rates of infection were found in younger chickens aged 3-6 weeks (94.5% positive) and in crossbreed chickens (90.5% positive) compared to local breeds. The highest prevalence of IBD was detected in Wenji woreda at 92.1%. The study concludes that IBD is highly prevalent in backyard chicken populations in the study areas.
