Applied in the healthcare setting, a digital twin can help clinicians better understand each patient and their health conditions and circumstances in real time and make comprehensive, informed care decisions. Comprehensive data combined with team members who can turn numbers into real-world information are essential for medical practices to ensure a strong financial, clinical, and operational future. Independent medical practices can rely on four analytics strategies to survive the uncertain healthcare market and plan for a sustainable future:

Startup Health | HealthTech Funding | Q1 2017Galen Growth
The document is a report from StartUp Health that analyzes digital health funding in Q1 2017. Some key findings include:
- Q1 2017 saw $2.5 billion in digital health funding, the largest first quarter on record, largely due to GRAIL's record-breaking $914 million Series B funding round.
- The population health sector attracted significant capital with 25 deals in Q1 2017, nearly double the funding of any other sector.
- Los Angeles is emerging as a top destination for digital health funding after a remarkable first quarter.
The document discusses how healthcare organizations are shifting from an incremental, retrospective approach to analytics ("Analytics 1.0") to a more holistic, predictive approach ("Analytics 2.0") due to factors like value-based reimbursement and increased data sources. It reports the results of a survey finding high demand across organizations for clinical and financial analytics like quality reporting and risk measurement. Many organizations face barriers to Analytics 2.0 like inadequate data integration and a focus on operational vs strategic uses of data. The shift requires enterprise analytics platforms that can integrate diverse data sources for both operational and strategic insights.
The healthcare industry in India is facing a complex, competitive environment driven by disruptive technology. For healthcare organizations to survive, data-driven management is needed. As payment reforms increase pressure to improve quality while lowering costs, some hospitals have adopted quality improvement methodologies from other industries, like data analytics. Experts believe healthcare providers that invest in analytics through partnerships will have success. The article outlines the types of data analytics used in healthcare - descriptive analytics of past data, predictive analytics to forecast future needs, and prescriptive analytics to provide recommendations. It also discusses challenges to implementing data-driven management and provides steps for healthcare organizations to become more data-driven.

How to Evaluate Emerging Healthcare Technology with Innovative AnalyticsHealth Catalyst
As healthcare systems are pressured to cut costs and still provide high-quality care, they will need to look across the care continuum for answers, reduce variation in care, and look to emerging technologies. This article walks through how to evaluate the safety and effectiveness and of emerging healthcare technology and prioritize high-impact improvement projects using a robust data analytics platform. Topics covered include:
The importance of identifying variation in innovation.
Ways to improve outcomes and decrease costs.
The value of an analytics platform.
The reliable information that produce sparks for innovation.
Identifying and evaluating emerging healthcare technology.
Knowing what data to use.
The difference between efficacy and effectiveness in evaluation of emerging healthcare technology.
The document discusses the forces driving healthcare transformation including payment reform, consumerism, digitalization, and emerging data sources. It notes the US healthcare system spends the most per capita but is highly fragmented. Digital health startups have an opportunity to engage patients, enable caregivers, and increase efficiencies. However, adoption faces challenges like data security, interoperability, and suboptimal experiences. The document maps the technology vendor landscape and where funding is going in digital health. It concludes with strategies for market development using an Acquire, Defend, Expand framework.

Using Advanced Analytics for Value-based Healthcare DeliveryMichael Joseph
Promoting Value-based Healthcare Delivery
The fundamental principles of the Affordable Care Act recognize that the volume-based, fee-for-service payment model is unsustainable and that a value-based healthcare delivery system is essential. With the emergence of Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), providers are incentivized to implement payment reforms and participate in shared savings programs that seek to balance quality of care, access to care and cost of care.
Our healthcare analytics payment model uses predictive analytics to assist ACOs in patient attribution, budget development, bench-marking and performance monitoring to maximize incentives through shared savings and quality improvements.

Do People Really Know Their Fertility Intentions? Correspondence between Sel...Xiao Xu
Fertility intention data from surveys often serve as a crucial component in modeling fertility behaviors. Yet, the persistent gap between stated intentions and actual fertility decisions, coupled with the prevalence of uncertain responses, has cast doubt on the overall utility of intentions and sparked controversies about their nature. In this study, we use survey data from a representative sample of Dutch women. With the help of open-ended questions (OEQs) on fertility and Natural Language Processing (NLP) methods, we are able to conduct an in-depth analysis of fertility narratives. Specifically, we annotate the (expert) perceived fertility intentions of respondents and compare them to their self-reported intentions from the survey. Through this analysis, we aim to reveal the disparities between self-reported intentions and the narratives. Furthermore, by applying neural topic modeling methods, we could uncover which topics and characteristics are more prevalent among respondents who exhibit a significant discrepancy between their stated intentions and their probable future behavior, as reflected in their narratives.
