Internet application allows physician practices to place orders for clinical test and view results online. The
interface is optionally connected to the client’s Physician Management System thus allowing fetching of
patient data when placing orders. Online results viewing allow faster delivery, eliminating the waiting time
for the carrier’s daily trip. The application was developed using the Apache Cocoon framework and
deployed on Apache Tomcat and Fedora Core Linux. Database production backend is Microsoft SQL
Server. The Physician Webportal has been designed to be browser independent, cross platform and it is
able to interface (communicate) easily with any LIS (Laboratory Information System). The application has
been serving the company’s customers for over three years having reached a user base of 5000 users and
served over 1.6 million reports to date.
Participated in 2007 redesign of Physician WebPortal 2.0 based on an Apache Cocoon front-end and
EJB3/hibernate back-end. The new application is database independent thanks to Hibernate and it was
recently moved from MS-SQL Server to Oracle database. The user front is totally new featuring custom
branding and a tabbed interface that allows for faster search and report viewing. The new application was
successfully deployed to production on September 2007 and no problems were found to date. It was labeled
as the most successful company deployment for a new application.
