Production-Ready Environments for Kubernetes (CON307-S) - AWS re:Invent 2018Amazon Web Services
Kubernetes is taking off and being rapidly adopted both on-premises and in the AWS Cloud. Today, enterprises are struggling to build, deploy, and manage production-ready environments at scale. The Cisco Hybrid Solution for Kubernetes on AWS makes it easy for customers to run production-grade Kubernetes on-premises. This is achieved by configuring on-premises Kubernetes environments to be consistent with Amazon Elastic Container Service for Kubernetes (Amazon EKS) and by combining Cisco's networking, security, management, and monitoring software with the world-class cloud services of AWS. This enables customers to focus on building and using applications instead of being constrained by where they run.

It discusses why big data is important, how big data works involving collecting, storing, processing and analyzing data, and then consuming and visualizing insights. It considers whether to use cloud or on-premise solutions. Among cloud providers, it analyzes Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Microsoft Azure and Cloudera Cloud. It ultimately recommends Google Cloud Platform based on tools and support, platform expertise, performance, integration and flexibility. The document then outlines example big data architectures on GCP including a basic data lake workflow, real-time self-reporting dashboard, machine learning integration and data warehouse transition. It also discusses running GCP with existing on-premise systems and understanding
Machine Learning (ML) works by using powerful algorithms to discover patterns in data, and constructing complex mathematical models using these patterns. Once a model is built, you perform inference by applying data to the trained model to make predictions for your application. Building and training ML models requires massive computing resources so it is a natural fit for the cloud. But, inference takes a lot less computing power and is typically done in real-time when new data is available, so getting inference results with very low latency is important to making sure your applications can respond quickly to local events. AWS Greengrass ML inference gives you the best of both worlds. You use ML models that are built and trained in the cloud, and you deploy and run ML inference locally on connected devices. For example, autonomous cars need to identify road signs in real time; and drones need to recognize objects with or without network connectivity.
