Kubernetes: A Short Introduction (2019)Megan O'Keefe
Kubernetes is an open-source system for automating deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications. It groups containers that make up an application into logical units for easy management and discovery called pods. Kubernetes can manage pods across a cluster of machines, providing scheduling, deployment, scaling, load balancing, volume mounting and networking. It is widely used by companies like Google, CERN and in large projects like processing images and analyzing particle interactions. Kubernetes is portable, can span multiple cloud providers, and continues growing to support new workloads and use cases.
ArgoCD and Tekton: Match made in Kubernetes heaven | DevNation Tech TalkRed Hat Developers
Tekton Pipelines is an open-source project that focuses on providing a Kubernetes-native, lightweight, easy-to-manage serverless CI/CD framework. Tekton is built for Kubernetes and runs delivery pipelines in pods to scale on demand, and allow teams to fully control their pipelines and dependencies. ArgoCD is a declarative GitOps operator and makes continuous delivery possible by using Git as source of truth for declarative infrastructure and applications. In this session, you will learn how to combine the power of Tekton Pipelines with ArgoCD for a declarative approach to CI/CD based on GitOps principles.
Kubernetes is an open-source container management platform. It has a master-node architecture with control plane components like the API server on the master and node components like kubelet and kube-proxy on nodes. Kubernetes uses pods as the basic building block, which can contain one or more containers. Services provide discovery and load balancing for pods. Deployments manage pods and replicasets and provide declarative updates. Key concepts include volumes for persistent storage, namespaces for tenant isolation, labels for object tagging, and selector matching.
Traditional virtualization technologies have been used by cloud infrastructure providers for many years in providing isolated environments for hosting applications. These technologies make use of full-blown operating system images for creating virtual machines (VMs). According to this architecture, each VM needs its own guest operating system to run application processes. More recently, with the introduction of the Docker project, the Linux Container (LXC) virtualization technology became popular and attracted the attention. Unlike VMs, containers do not need a dedicated guest operating system for providing OS-level isolation, rather they can provide the same level of isolation on top of a single operating system instance.
An enterprise application may need to run a server cluster to handle high request volumes. Running an entire server cluster on Docker containers, on a single Docker host could introduce the risk of single point of failure. Google started a project called Kubernetes to solve this problem. Kubernetes provides a cluster of Docker hosts for managing Docker containers in a clustered environment. It provides an API on top of Docker API for managing docker containers on multiple Docker hosts with many more features.
Kubernetes is an open-source system for automating deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications. It groups containers that make up an application into logical units for easy management and discovery called Pods. ReplicaSets ensure that a specified number of pod replicas are running at any given time. Key components include Pods, Services for enabling network access to applications, and Deployments to update Pods and manage releases.
Kubernetes is an open-source container cluster manager that was originally developed by Google. It was created as a rewrite of Google's internal Borg system using Go. Kubernetes aims to provide a declarative deployment and management of containerized applications and services. It facilitates both automatic bin packing as well as self-healing of applications. Some key features include horizontal pod autoscaling, load balancing, rolling updates, and application lifecycle management.

Migrating to Microservices – It's Easier Than You ThinkDevOps.com
Moving from a monolithic architecture to a service-based architecture may look like a daunting task. The good news is it does not need to be. A maturing cloud native tooling market is making it easier to get the job done.
In this webinar, Steve will cover the steps required to move a standard J2EE application from a monolithic architecture to a service based architecture. He will cover tools such as Ngnix, Docker, Kubernetes and DeployHub to manage and configure this new environment. Anyone with an interest in shifting to microservices will benefit from hearing this "roadmap" presentation.
The document discusses why Kubernetes-native backup is critical for modern IT environments. It notes that Kubernetes deployment patterns are fundamentally different than earlier platforms, requiring backup solutions to understand the Kubernetes architecture. It also notes that DevOps practices emphasize high-velocity application development, requiring backup solutions to be application-centric rather than infrastructure-focused. Additionally, the large scale of Kubernetes applications comprising hundreds of components requires a Kubernetes-native approach to backups that treats the application as the unit of consistency.

6. Are Containers the Same Thing as Microservices?
6
Once you begin diving into containers, it’s not possible to avoid
reading concerning microservices. (No, microservices don't seem to
be those little cars you step within the dark. Those square
measure small Machines. perhaps I’m Associate in
Nursingalysis|qualitative analysis} myself?) Microservices is an style
of architecture. A microservices design structures AN application
by victimization as a group of loosely coupled services, that deliver
specific business capabilities. Containers facilitate build it happen.

14. What can Kubernetes do?
14
Resource Bin Packing
You'll declare minimum and most figure resources (CPU and memory) for your containers. Kubernetes can slot your
containers into wherever ever they match. This will increase your figure potency and ultimately lowers prices.
Inbuilt Service Discovery and Autoscaling
Kubernetes will mechanically expose your containers to the web or alternative containers within the cluster. It mechanically
load balances traffic across matching containers. Kubernetes supports service discovery via atmosphere variables and
DNS, out of the box. you'll conjointly tack together CPU-based autoscaling for containers for inflated resource utilization.
Persistent Storage
Kubernetes includes support for persistent storage connected to homeless application containers. there's support
for Amazon net Services east by south, Google Cloud Platform persistent disks, and many, many more.
High Convenience Options
Kubernetes is planet scale. this needs special attention to high-availability options like multi-master or cluster
federation. Cluster federation permits linking clusters along in order that if one cluster goes down, containers will
mechanically move to a different cluster. Grammar Check Re-write Again Next Demo Video (Paraphrasing
Heterogeneous Clusters
Kubernetes runs anyplace. you'll build your Kubernetes cluster for a combination of virtual machines (VMs) running the
cloud, on-premises, or blank metal in your datacenter. merely opt for the composition in keeping with your needs.
Instrumentality Deployments and Rollout Management
Describe your containers and the way several you wish with a “Deployment.” Kubernetes can keep those containers
running and handle deploying changes (such as change the image or dynamical atmosphere variables) with a “rollout.”
you'll pause, resume, and rollback changes as you prefer.

The kubelet works in terms of a PodSpec. A PodSpec may be a YAML or JSON object that describes a pod. The
kubelet takes a group of PodSpecs that ar provided through numerous mechanisms (primarily through the apiserver)
and ensures that the containers delineate in those PodSpecs ar running and healthy. The kubelet doesn’t manage
