YOUR! Colombian Connection - June 2013
Dear Friends,
For us, July and August are
Harvest Time. These are the
principal months when we will
present the Gospel to several
thousand people and see
hundreds make a decision.
Although we are “open for
business” year round, international outreach teams usually
favour July and August. This summer we are very excited to
be hosting teams from Detroit, Mi and Innisfil, ON, Canada.
In both cases they will be ministering in schools & malls -
with a dash of children’s ministry thrown in for flavour!

As part of the planning process for both teams I was in
Bogota in April. Aside from meetings, I was also able to visit
two ministries that we have worked with for years:
Seed of Eternal Life (SeVe)
The ministry in Beautiful Flower (South Bogota) is about to
get a big boost. After years of waiting and praying
construction on a permanent Children’s Centre has begun.
They will finally be able to expand upon the smaller centre
(pictured above) that we helped build.
The new centre, right next to a public school where several
THOUSAND children study, will multiply their work space
by a factor of ten!
We look forward to ministering here in the future!
Medellin Children’s Home
This is my buddy Brayan. He has
been in the care of the YWAM
Medellin Children’s ministry for just
over a year now.
Patty and I help with the ministry’s
international communications
(newsletters, banking, translations,
etc) so from time to timewevisit Medellin personally to handle
things that cannot be done electronically.
Brayan, like most of the kids, loves it when visitors come and
he quickly attached himself to me. He was so happy to have
a new friend that he tried talking his house mother into letting
him stay home from school; just to hang out with me!
When we visit we almost always bring toys, school supplies
and personal hygiene products for the kids & staff.
We want to send a special thank you to

(www.sewonfire.com) for the box of
supplies and toys that they provided.
We also want to acknowledge the
generosity of two very special little
boys, James & Darien McCrea who
donated their wooden train set and some
action figures!
Construction Outreach Opportunity
The House of Our Dreams
The children’s home is also in the process of building, or in
this case rebuilding. It is a project called “The House of Our
Dreams;” one in which you and your church can participate.
In January 2010, after 18 years of rented facilities, the
ministry moved into its first permanent home, a beautiful 90
year old house purchased by a Swedish donor. Not only did
this stop the continual moving from house to house for the
girls, but also gave us the hope to build a second floor for the
boys and totally eliminate the need to pay rent.

The Director was very
happy with our gifts.

However, within a few months
Colombian law changed – new
rules for earthquake resistant
structures came into effect and
we were forced to demolishthe
house and commence the
process of rebuilding. The
children were again moved into
rented facilities and we started to pray for a miracle.
Theministry almost had to close before God provided another
miracle; a foundation from the US that committed itself to
rebuild the first two floors of our home.
But the goal is to raise up four floors of construction: the first
floor for offices, kitchen, common areas andstorage, onefloor
for our boys, one for the girls and the other to house outreach
teams and missionaries.
The first two stories are funded, but it is up to us to raise the
money and the workers to complete the project; to complete
our dream, to finally have a permanent home for our children.

Patty and I are personally interested in leading teams to help
rebuild this home. If you have a group or individuals
interested in building projects, please contact us - no
professional experience is required.

Family News
Patty is recovering from gall bladder surgery at the end of
May. While in the short term this has kept us both close to
home, she will soon be ready to travel - To Sweden!
Patty’s sister Milena is giving birth to her first child in July.
They have paid for Patty’s ticket to visit for three weeks and
help after the birth. She is thrilled for the opportunity!
James & Darien are finishing grades 5 & 2
respectively. They have done very well and
are excited to have the summer off.
Aside from taking time for the beach and
camping, they will also be joining Dad for
three weeks of outreach in Colombia while
Mommy is in Sweden.
Darren’s sister Brenda - Last time we shared that Brenda
has terminal cancer. She has since received some treatment
and the cancer’s progress has been slowed. This has helped
her breathing and managed her pain levels. Her prognosis was
six months to a year, but she is praying for five years so that
she can see her son into adulthood.
Zachary is 15 and as you might expect is struggling. A bright
point for him has been spending some weekends with us, as we
prepare to eventually receive him into our home.
Prayer Points
- For Brenda’s health. Pray for healing. Miracles happen!
- For our outreaches in July & August, that thousands would
come to Jesus!
- For more teams to minister with us, both in Evangelism and
in rebuilding the Medellin Children’s Home.
