While IPv6 has been a defined standard since 1998, the end-user adoption of this standard is minimal. Less than 1% of Internet peers utilize IPv6 in the course of normal operation. However, IPv6 support within operating systems and network routers is becoming commonplace. While IT personnel continue to be focused on IPv4, IPv6 capabilities may already be active by default on many Internet connected systems within an IT professional's environment. These IPv6 interfaces generate traffic which can bypass traditional controls based on IPv4 technology. Although IPv6 is likely to eclipse IPv4 as the dominant Internet protocol, the path to this state is disorganized and unclear. This state indicates that as IPv6 gains inertia as a legitimate Internet protocol, IT administrators need to be aware of and manage IPv6 traffic on their network with as much vigilance as they would apply to the more commonplace IPv4.

Microsoft Azure And The Competitive Cloud Industry - Collab365Richard Harbridge
Public cloud platforms are important for the future. Many organizations have made big bets, and are continuing to evaluate their options in the public and hybrid cloud arena. Microsoft has become a major player in the public cloud space, but it has plenty of competitors: Amazon, Google, OpenStack, Salesforce/Force.com and more. How do these providers compare to Azure? And what’s likely to happen in the industry as we move into the future? Join Richard Harbridge as he provides guidance and advice for how Azure measures up based on customer experience and industry insights.
India, whose GDP depends on the agriculture is not a developed nation in terms of modernization in agriculture. The high cost of labor, uncertainty in the production of crops, lack of knowledge about new methods, continuing with the same orthodox and traditional means to go about agriculture, the inefficient use of proper irrigational facilities results in low productivity. Due to this uncertainty in the irrigation process the crops may also dry up. About 14.7% of India’s growth depends on the agricultural sector, so it’s a huge cause of concern.
With this project, the current problems related to farming are solved and practically implemented solutions are provided. Using IOT as well as GSM, a whole new concept of farming using networks is introduced reducing labor, updating farmer about the live conditions of farm on the mobile devices and presenting its graphical value using thing speak. It makes the process handy with the click a button reformation.
We evaluate the performance of our method in a simple temperature sensing application. In terms of reducing human efforts and ease of irrigation, our approach has been observed to outperform the existing conventional approach. We bring out the advantages and disadvantages followed by their applications. The paper concludes the work open for research.

Microsoft's cloud computing strategy focuses on simplifying migrations, appealing to developers, enterprises and ISVs, and establishing a strong partner ecosystem. The presentation outlines Windows Azure capabilities and opportunities for solution providers to develop applications, migrate existing workloads, offer consulting services, and create new recurring revenue streams in areas like support and training.
This document describes an elective on energy harvesting that will discuss harnessing renewable energy from the environment, including an overview of energy harvesting, applications, and a hands-on activity where students will characterize solar panels and use the energy to power loads like LEDs, motors, and buzzers. Students will also design a scenario to power a 3 room apartment using solar energy under constraints set by the owner.
These slides use concepts from my (Jeff Funk) course entitled analyzing hi-tech opportunities to show how energy harvesters are becoming more economically feasible for the Internet of Things (IoT). Small amounts of energy can be harvested from vibrations, temperature differences, and radio frequencies using various types of electronic devices such as piezoelectric, MEMS, thermo-electric power generators, and other devices. As improvements in them occur and as the energy requirements of accelerometers, pressure sensors, gas detectors, bio-sensors, and readout circuits fall from microwatts to hundreds of nano-watts, energy harvesters become cheaper and better than are batteries. Improvements in energy harvesting are occurring in the form of higher power per area or higher power per temperature difference and improvements of about five times are expected to occur in the next 5 to 10 years. The market for energy harvesters is expected to reach $2.5 Billion by 2024. In addition to their impact on buildings and the other usual applications for IoT, they will also impact on agriculture, aircraft, and medical implants.

Back in the day we would use 'who installed a browser' that wasn't the default as an 'indirect signal' that denoted a level of individual interest in improving their digital productivity or experience. Nowadays we are swimming in indirect signals - from who organizes the most meetings (named if you use Audit log etc) to dynamics around networking (Viva Insights) to who uses Teams Apps (another great indirect signal of expanding productivity/investing in digital experiences).
What still works best though is direct signals like comments, nominations, champion programs (yearly and NON MANAGER & NON IT focused) and more that help identify people and map them/amplify their visibility as potential super collaborators, those with high amounts of digital debt and those who would better benefit from greater digital fitness or digital experience investments.

Enhancing Security with Multi-Factor Authentication in Privileged Access Mana...Bert Blevins
In the ever-evolving landscape of cybersecurity, safeguarding sensitive data and critical systems has become paramount. As cyber threats grow in sophistication, organizations are constantly seeking innovative methods to fortify their defenses. Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) stands out as a potent tool within the security arsenal, particularly when integrated with Privileged Access Management (PAM).
Privileged access management encompasses the methods, protocols, and tools employed to regulate and monitor access to privileged accounts within an organization. These accounts wield elevated privileges, enabling users to execute vital operations such as system configuration, access to sensitive data, and management of network infrastructure. However, if these privileges fall into the wrong hands, they pose a significant security risk. MFA adds an additional layer of protection by requiring users to provide multiple forms of verification before gaining access to a system or application. Key components of MFA in PAM include biometric verification, passwords, security tokens, and one-time passcodes. Deploying MFA within a PAM environment necessitates meticulous planning and consideration of various factors to ensure robust security.

Remote patient telemetry containing vital signs, medicines being administered and
other environmental factors is securely streamed over the Internet to Azure Event

Azure Stream Analytics pulls data out of Event Hub and observes that the patient’s
temperature has exceeded a predetermined threshold of 100 degrees.
Azure Notification Hubs is called to facilitate the response to this event.A push notification with the patient information is sent to the appropriate nurses
station where an alert is displayed on the patient health telemetry screen resulting
in an immediate visit to the patient.

Azure Stream Analytics pulls data from Event Hub and determines that employees
on the 3rd floor of the building love white powdered donuts and purchase them 3
times more often than any other snack in this particular vending machine.
You act on this granular merchandising information by tripling-up on the number
of spirals selling white powdered donuts.
This vending machine now makes you more money because you’re catering to the
needs of a very specific audience.

accelerator and research center. Over the years, six
scientists have received Nobel prizes for work
conducted there. To ensure continuous availability of
this critical scientific resource and keep it running as
smoothly as the day it was built, SLAC teams are
collaborating to explore the Internet of Things (IoT).
o Keeps science accelerating by collecting and
analyzing potentially millions of data points in
near-real time to predict potential failure
o Helps technicians understand how disparate
systems interoperate, so they can upgrade more
strategically and avoid downtime
o Continually increases precision by feeding
information back into Azure Machine Learning on
the root causes of detected anomalies
BENEFITSSOLUTION
SLAC is collecting data from intelligent sensors and
feeding it into the cloud where it can be analyzed for
early detection of anomalies — allowing engineers to
anticipate problems, take action and prevent failure.
Working with Microsoft Open Technologies, SLAC used
the open-source project ConnectTheDots.io to integrate
the diverse array of sensor formats in one of its klystron
cooling systems. Azure Event Hubs then packages and
routes the data to Azure Machine Learning for near-real-
time analysis.

research with IoT
“The advantage we gain is that the algorithms can look
through everything at once and just return the things we
actually need to focus on, so we can take action.

CHALLENGE
The Monterey Regional Water Pollution Control
Agency is one of the nation’s largest water recycling
facilities for crop irrigation—treating 20 million
gallons daily. Monterey wanted to find out why their
facility was experiencing unusually high energy usage
but didn’t have the data necessary from their existing
control systems. They wanted to avoid expanding
their existing control system —taking many months
and hundreds of thousands of dollars—opting to
seek an IoT solution instead.
o Provided $160K in deployment savings and was
up and running within 30 days, needing only
onsite electricians to install.
o Created 140,000 data points daily, enabling
analyses of inefficient processes to save energy
costs.
o Expansion of system with Azure Stream
Analytics and Power BI to provide process
scenario simulations using real data.
BENEFITSSOLUTION
Candi Controls created a solution for MRWPCA that
was running within 30 days and that cost less than
$40K. Commercial-class IoT submeters were placed at
20 key plant processes to measure energy usage at 30
second intervals providing the granular, real-time
data Monterey Water needed to optimize plant
processes. The existing deployment is being
enhanced with Azure Stream Analytics and Power BI
to better manage and optimize energy usage in
future.

CHALLENGE
Fujitsu is the world’s fourth-largest IT services
provider with approximately 162,000 employees in
more than 100 countries and holds about 97,000
patents worldwide. Fujitsu wanted to help dairy
farmers increase production, improve data insights
and transform their business by optimizing the
timing of artificial insemination (AI). It also wanted to
decrease loss through early detection of health
issues.
o Improves calf production up to 31%, with an
average of 12%
o Modernizes data access with mobile phone
alerts, reducing labor costs for monitoring cows
o Transforms herd management by allowing
farmers to increase chances of producing a
male or female calf
o Reduces loss by detecting 8-10 different kinds
of diseases in cattle
BENEFITSSOLUTION
Fujitsu learned from public research that a cow
produces more estrus (goes into heat) 16 hours after
the number of steps increases significantly. The
company created an innovative solution which uses a
rugged pedometer with a five-year battery to
measure the number of footsteps a cow takes, then
sends that data to the cloud for analysis to determine
optimum AI timing and even affect calf gender. In
addition, the patterns of steps can detect disease in
cattle. Alerts are delivered to the farmer’s cell phone.

With a thermostat you are basically look at a few things it can do.
Vending machines? Classic example of IoT…
Why is IoT a big deal now?
Big companies have been doing this for decades.
Example: jet engines sending GB of data with custom dashboards and reporting systems.
Now this has been democratized (not just for those big companies anymore).
It’s more viable for everyone now.
Due to storage being cheaper…
Architected to run on ARM and x86 devices.
AllJoyn support facilitates autonomous discovery and interaction with nearby IoT devices.
No Windows shell.
Remotely configure, monitor and deploy apps via SSH, web and PowerShell.
Build Universal Windows Platform apps in C++, C#, JS, and VB.
Node.js and Python too
Get started with Visual Studio 2015 and Windows IoT
Core Project Templates from the Visual Studio Gallery.
Processes massive amounts of data (Generally Available WW)
1M Publishers
1 GB/S Ingress
1T Messages/Month (1k per message)
