The Characteristics And Features Of Mutual Funds
1.1 General Introduction
The term investment refers to the commitment of funds made with an expectation of some positive
returns. Two essentials aspects of investment are that firstly it involves waiting for returns, and
secondly it involves an element of risk of not getting what is expected of the investment. Basically
investment means purchase of financial asset that yield a return, which is proportionate to risk
assumed over some future period of time.
In finance, investment means buying securities or other monetary or paper (financial) assets in the
money markets or capital markets, or other in fairly liquid real assets, such as good as an investment,
real estate or collectibles with a view to earn some gain over a period of time.
1.2 Features of Investment

Professional Management
Mutual Funds provide the services of experienced and skilled professionals, backed by a dedicated
investment research team that analyses the performance and prospects of companies and selects
suitable investments to achieve the objectives of the scheme.
2. Diversification
Mutual Funds invest in a number of companies across a broad cross section of industries and sectors.
This diversification reduces the risk because seldom do all stocks decline at the same time and in the
same proportion. You achieve this diversification through a Mutual Fund with far less money than you
can do on your own.
3. Convenient Administration
Investing in a Mutual Fund reduces paperwork and helps you avoid many problems such as bad
deliveries, delayed payments and follow up with brokers and companies. Mutual Funds save your time
and make investing easy and convenient.
4. Return Potential
Over a medium to long term, Mutual Funds have the potential to provide a higher return as they invest
in a diversified basket of selected securities.

Review Of Shiloh By Toni Morrison
The protagonists are the most important characters of the stories. They play an essential part in
building the story to its climax. The protagonists encounter with different characters and their
experiences with those characters became paramount in developing the outcome of the story at the
end. Sometimes we overlook the significance of non protagonists. Many non protagonist characters
have a significant impact on the protagonists. In Shiloh written by Bobbie Ann Mason, Norma Jean
and Leroy are unhappily married couple who are going through a transformation in their marriage.
Leroy is failing to keep Norma Jean satisfied with their marriage and eventually faces a cruel reality
which will alter his life. Also in Recitatif written by Toni Morrison, Twyla who briefly stayed at St.
Bonny s orphanage, met Maggie and Roberta, who would later become indispensable individuals that
would forever change her point of view on life.
In the story of Shiloh, Leroy and Norma Jean have been in an unhappy marriage for sixteen years.
Even though their marriage was an unhappy one, it seems to be normal, from Leroy s point of view,
until he gets into an accident. According to Steward J. Cooke, he later comes to terms with the cruel
reality of his shallow/empty marriage with Norma Jean (Cooke). Even though he knows about the
abnormality in his marriage with Norma Jean, he is still stuck in the past and hoping that he could
renew their marriage and start afresh. All the while Norma Jean is

Heart Of Darkness By Joseph Conrad And The Film Apocalypse...
Dark, suspenseful, and altogether brutal is what describes Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad and the
film adaption Apocalypse Now by Francis Ford Coppola. A short novella published in 1899, Heart of
Darkness centers on the journey taken by the narrator Marlow up the Congo River with a Belgian
trading company. Upriver he encounters the mysterious ivory trader, Kurtz and is brought face to face
with corruption and despair. Set in the Vietnam War, the film Apocalypse Now follows the central
character, U.S. Army special operations officer Captain Benjamin L. Willard, of MACV SOG, on a
mission to kill the radical and seemingly psychotic U.S. Army Special Forces Colonel Walter E.
Kurtz. Coppola draws on Conrad s characters in order to create Captain Willard and Colonel Kurtz,
but in adapting these dynamic characters he changes the internal and external forces both main
characters endure. Coppola creates interesting parallels between Willard and Marlow; Marlow s
voyage downriver to the heart of Africa and Willard s mission on the Nung River in Vietnam. Both
men are on journey s to the darkest of places: journey into self , and the discoveries to be made there.
Both are about men confronting fears of failure, insanity, death, and cultural corruption. However,
both are also are drastically different at times. Ronald Bogue s article The Heartless Darkness in
Apocalypse Now provides a wonderful intake on commonalties and differences in the two works. He
notes that by

Management Plan For The Music Festival
Project management has always been an important branch of management. It involves gathering
different resources with using a scientific approach of management to build all types of projects,
starting from infrastructure facilities and buildings, to IT projects, or even to prepare and manage
special events. As far as special events are concerned, Music Festivals usually require precise planning
and organising for many reasons. The huge number of guests associated with such events, and the
different types of resources needed to complete the project are all crucial elements, and will make
planning for the Music Festival such a challenging task for the project manager, especially if it lasts
for few days. The lack of accommodation, the hilly nature of the ground, and unexpected changes in
weather are all problems facing the project manager that need to be addressed appropriately. This
essay will discuss the resourcing plan, risk management plan, and leadership and management plan for
the Music Festival. it will also discuss the reasons behind choosing the predictive approach among
other available options in implementing project life cycles.
The Music Festival is going to be held in the countryside of Victoria during the Australia Day
weekend in 2016. The expected number of guests are between 8000 12000 guests and might change
without prior notice. The local accommodation is limited, which means many extra units or little tents
will be prepared and provided to address this

Essay On Truman s Controversial Decision
On August 6th, 1945, a US B 29 bomber took off from an air base, carrying a package that would
forever change the nature of war and be a subject of debate throughout the rest of the century. At
approximately 9:15am, a large, mushroom shaped cloud rose over Hiroshima, Japan. The first atomic
bomb had been used in combat. The surrender of Japan a week later marked the end of a long struggle
for freedom, democracy, and peace. At the same time, it marked a change in the nature of war.
American President Harry Truman s controversial decision to drop the atomic bomb on Japan ended
the Second World War and began the nuclear age. Since the end of the war, Truman s decision has
been a subject of debate, largely due to the high civilian death toll that resulted from the bombings.
However, the context of the time period and the need to end the Second World War made the use of
the nuclear weapons a necessary action to force the surrender of Japan. Truman s decision to use the
atomic bomb against Japan was justified by the historical context of the Second World War and Japan
s refusal to surrender unconditionally. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were justified in the
historical context of the Second World War. During this time period, the world abandoned morality in

the arguments for surrender of the peace faction in the Japanese government. The destructiveness of
the atomic bombs allowed the Japanese to surrender by strengthening the Japanese peace faction,
which was finally able to overrule the Japanese military

The Pony Express
The Pony Express was an extremely important event in history for three profoundly reasons. All
together, it helped the farther east states to keep in contact with the West with all the news of what was
happening, important documents, and sometimes small packages and family letters that were being
sent from different states. It helped for new and more improved ideas of how could the spreading of
news could be spread faster and safer. The good reason of keeping all the states in contact with all the
others is because families moved or members of a family moved to further states for jobs. Travelers
went in search for wealth and land and with the California Gold Rush people went to get a better life.
But with the rush to go find gold, that left many people in need to know what was going and if their
love ones found anything and what documents are being passed because of the California Gold rush.
Especially when California became a state it put extreme pressure upon the citizens, business, and all
miners alike for electing U.S government representatives. Furthermore people wanted to keep in touch
with their friends, family, and companies. As the tremendous threat of the Civil War about to break out
and the Southern states rebelling because of the refusing to give up slavery and with other things
causing the Civil War to happen. It opened up the eyes of many companies. Some seen what could

The Problems of Civil Litigation
The reformation of the civil justice system in 1998 was as result of the issues identified by Lord Woolf
as hindrances to effective civil litigation. Prior to Woolf report, it was perceived that civil litigation
has two main problems; cost of litigation and the duration of court proceedings. The effect of the
enquiry and the report thereafter, created new system of litigation where parties are encouraged to
settle dispute without a formal court proceeding. The process of taking a civil case to court is now
governed by the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) which came into force in 1999. The enactment of this
Act and other Acts of Parliament enacted earlier such as the Arbitration Act, Limitation Act 1980 and
Access to Justice Act 1999 has played ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is enshrined in part 24 of the CPR. Any party can sort for summary judgement or the courts with
its own initiative can instigate it where it is satisfied that there is no real prospect of a party defending
a claim. If the application is made reasonably early, then summary judgement is much cheaper than
full trial. However, if the application does not succeed, it still attracts cost on the side of the . Part 36
offers is another incentive put in place to ensure settlement of dispute both at early stage and without
the use of the court room. It is an offer to settle which can be made by the defendant in a dispute. It
has been described in the case of Petrotrade Inc v Texaco Ltd as one the cornerstones of procedure
made by the CPR however, its effect is that it raises the issue of cost if rejected. It is less of an
advantage to claimant who refuses to accept a payment or an offer to settle. [ 2 ]. . Ward and A. Akhtar

Lucy Pevensie Character Analysis Lucy is the youngest of her siblings and is the main character of
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. She is the first of her siblings to venture into Narnia and is the
closest to the creatures living there. Lucy has shown that she is quite stubborn once she believes or
decides something and doesn t back down when others disagree with her. Lucy sticks to her story of
finding her way into Narnia and meeting a faun even when her siblings do not believe her as shown on
page 26. Another example of Lucy being stubborn happens on page 171; she decides to do everything
in her power to save Mr. Tumnus even when others say that it is too dangerous. She is also shown to

Despite the fact that Mr. Tumnus nearly kidnapped her, as shown on pages 20 through 22, she trusts
him and somehow knows that he is on the good side. Her scarily good judgment has no basis other
than the first impressions she receives from others; however, her intuition has saved her and her
siblings many times. An example of this would be on pages 65 through 67. Lucy trusts and believes
Mr. and Mrs. Beaver and other friendly creatures as soon as she sees them; she instinctively knows
that they are on the good side. Her judgment is proven to be correct when Mr. and Mrs. Beaver lead
her and her family towards Aslan. She also notices that Aslan, despite all of his power and fierce
looks, as filled with gentleness as shown on pages 162 to 164; after Aslan is revived, he and the
Pevensie sisters end up playing and romping together joyfully. Towards the end of the story, it is
shown that, unlike her siblings, Lucy does not really grow up. In chapter 17, C.S. Lewis wrote, But as
for Lucy, she was always gay and golden haired, and all of the princes in those parts desired her to be
their Queen... While it is true that she matured physically, she retained her gayness and remained the
ball of sunshine she was when she first stepped into Narnia. She is still the first to seek out adventures

Emotional Disconnection in The Sun Also Rises The Sun Also Rises is a novel that narrates the life of
a group of friends after World War I. It communicates both the physical and emotional tolls that war
has on both humans and society. War changes people usually for the worse. In my analysis I will delve
into many of the characters pasts with major focus on Lady Brett s. Lady Brett s past acts as a catalyst
for her lack of emotional connections in The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway.
World War I affected many of the characters emotional states in the novel The Sun Also Rises. The

Sexism in Our Society Essay
Sexism in Our Society
Sexism has always been a major issue for women. It seems that today, everyone has to be careful of
what they say and do so as to avoid offending someone. While everyone is busy worrying about
extinguishing sexism towards women which still is an issue that needs to be taken care of, who is
concerned with sexism towards men? Sexism is just as much of an issue to men as it is to women.
Many people believe that men have advantages over women when comes to a topic such as
occupation. Although this may be true, in some cases it is in fact exactly the opposite. Today?s society
is so concerned with political correctness and equal rights to women that it has almost completely
forgotten about equal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Elizabeth Cady Stanton is a fine example of sexism toward men. While defending women?s rights and
making a stand against sexism toward women in her piece Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions,
Stanton demonstrates (many times) examples of sexism toward men: ?The history of mankind is a
history of repeated injuries?on the part of man toward woman, having in direct object the
establishment of an absolute tyranny over her? (165). By blaming men for every repression women
have suffered over the years, Stanton is completely contradicting her argument by being sexist toward
men.
In a more modern example, a 2004 study by Peter Glick and Robin Wells, both of the Department of
Psychology at Lawrence University, involving sixteen nations showed hostile attitudes toward men. ?
Stereotype measures indicated that men were viewed as having?more powerful traits than women. The
authors argue that hostile?attitudes toward men reflect and support gender inequality by characterizing
men as being designed for dominance.?
This leads to the subject of how men have been viewed throughout the course of history. In the past,
men have been seen as the protectors and providers of the household, just as women have been most
popularly viewed as

Analysis Of Geoffrey Chaucer s Canterbury Tales Essay
Most people have experienced an event in their lifetime that has caused them to develop trust issues,
and many of which will never overcome this lack of trust in others. There is a specific reason for this,
and it all begins with the issue at hand itself, trust. Everyone with trust issues has been wronged and
used relating to their trust in another person. They were betrayed by someone they never imagined
could hurt them. As a recent song created by the rock group Phish has reverberated, Each betrayal
begins with trust. Betrayal has been a common theme in all forms of literature since time began and is
a part of being a social being, humans, that we simply cannot avoid. Where there is a relay of trust,
there is an individual willing to extort it. Just as though some individuals will exploit power wherever
they can find it in order to better themselves, others will exploit trust to better themselves. This first
exploit of trust can be found within Geoffrey Chaucer s Canterbury Tales. While the whole entire
work exposes corruptions within the Catholic Church during Chaucer s time, the breaking of trust is
actually demonstrated within the Pardoner s Prologue and Tale. At the end of the Pardoner s tale, he
offers the pilgrimage relics, for a fee of course. However, at the prologue of the Pardoner s tale, the
Pardoner himself has explained how the Catholic Church and other fellow pardoners and church
officials sell relics which are no more than normal items given with a

Neil Armstrong As A Hero
This is one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind. (Neil Armstrong). In the 1960s, the race
began between America and the Soviet Union to see who could be the first to launch humans to the
moon. Several years later, America achieved a goal that was believed unlikely and almost impossible a
few years earlier. During the 1960 s Neil Armstrong changed the world and became an American hero.
Neil Armstrong had a long journey before he got to take those first steps on the moon. As a child, he
moved with his family to several Ohio communities before they settled in Wapakoneta when Neil was
13 years old ( Armstrong, Neil Alden ). Neil Armstrong s family moved a lot around Ohio until they
finally found a place to settle. Neil was only 13 years old. Moving could have made it hard for
Armstrong to make friends and he could have had a hard time dealing with school. Also, according to
www.notablebiographies.com, Neil Armstrong was the oldest of three children. He had a sister named
June and a brother named Dean. His parent s names were Stephen and Viola Armstrong. His sister
June, was four years younger than him. Later on, In 1947, Armstrong entered Purdue University. He
began studies in aeronautical engineering. But in 1949, the United States Navy called him to active
duty. Armstrong became a Navy pilot and was sent to Korea in 1950, near the start of the Korean
War.In 1952, Armstrong returned to Purdue. He earned a bachelor s degree in aeronautical engineering
there in 1955. Also in 1970, he earned a master s degree in aerospace engineering at the University of
Southern California ( Armstrong, Neil Alden ). Before Neil Armstrong finished school, he was in the
Navy, but cared enough about his education to continue it 2 years later. He even returned to school 15
years later. This lead to him getting a master s degree and a bachelor s degree. The beginning of
Armstrong s life led to many different accomplishments for his time. Neil Armstrong had many life
accomplishments other than walking on the moon.To begin, Neil Armstrong is known for being the
first man to walk on the moon, making American history. Worldbookonline.com states that Armstrong,

Women In Nathaniel Hawthorne
1.2. Nathaniel Hawthorne and Women
Nathaniel Hawthorne (1804 1864) is one of the great American short story writers and novelists of the
19th century. He has utilized many themes in his writings, one example of his themes is the portrait of
female and this is considered as revolutionary for his era. Patricia says Hawthorne has created a wide
range of female characters such as strong, independent minded, self confident and others types are
docile, fragile, and submissive. In addition, Charles Swann posited that some characteristics of
Hawthorne s women are strong and weak, charming and rueful, vivid and quiet (2), but there is one

Roy Male says, Hawthorne creates women characters with either a malicious or an evil feature to relay
to the reader a more allegorical meaning. Many would say he targets women without justification,
while a reader may interpret him to be a misogynist. Katharine Gilbert also regards that Hawthorne in
the past been generally accepted as a misogynist, because he depicts negative conceptualization on his
women s image (72). Nina Baym disputes that assumption. She claims the misogynist label toward
Nathaniel Hawthorne is unfair. She further mentions Hawthorne never viewed women as unimportant
people, but rather, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual partners. In the Nathaniel Hawthorne: A
Biography, Arlin Turner demonstrated women often played crucial roles in Hawthorne s development
and they inspired some of the women characters who appear in his fiction

solving word problems. The complexity of language that s used in a mathematical context makes it
difficult for students to have a confident approach. Therefore, research is being conducted on how
reading comprehension can be dove tailed with word problem solving in an elementary classroom.
The Problem Solving Instruction Questionnaire was designed to collect data from a range of teachers
to learn about math problem solving instruction in a variety of classrooms. This helped identify
effective approaches in teaching, to verify poor performance and lack of strategies with students, and
collect any other various input. The data would guide the mathematics intervention to be used and
planned. Research Topic A majority of current and incoming fourth grade students struggle with
solving word problems accurately. Students have difficulty with word problems mostly based on lack
of reliable strategies and poor language interpretation. While fact fluency may be present, the ability
to interpret vocabulary to guide computation leaves many students unable to construct

Suicide in Bartleby and Life in the Iron Mills Essay
Suicide in Bartleby and Life in the Iron Mills
Life in the Iron Mills and Bartleby are centered on characters who are alienated laborers, looking for
means through which they cannot be deprived of their humanity. Hugh Wolfe and Bartleby are both
workers who have been victimized by the capitalistic system. As Karl Marx explains, the capitalistic
system exploits the laborer and thus robs the laborer of his humanity through alienating the laborer.
Both Wolfe and Bartleby become victims of the system, for they are not only alienated and
dehumanized. But in their struggle against the system, they take their own lives. Their suicides are
representative of how far alienation reached into the lives of Bartleby and Wolfe and how far ... Show

I should have been quite regulated with his application, had he been cheerfully industrious. But he
wrote on silently, palely, mechanically. (Melville 9). This nature of working disturbed the employer
because he noticed the machine like style of Bartleby s. Bartleby s lack of human qualities bothered
the narrator, as he did later become concerned about Bartleby s condition and began to inquire of his
past.
It is evident that the alienation process has already begun to take hold on Bartleby, long before he took
the scrivener position. He is doing work for which he is being paid for and refuses to do any favors.
He knows that his labor is for sale and that he will do only what the lawyer s money buys, and nothing
more. Second, Bartleby makes it a point to explain that he would prefer not to do something, inserting
the fact that he is the one deciding. Through his disobedience and his repeating the phrase I would
prefer not to Bartleby was struggling to preserve his humanity. Bartleby refused to allow the lawyer to
exploit his labor and his energy. The manner in which he was trying so hard to preserve his autonomy
shows how he wished not to be further alienated from the work process, for he wanted control over
exactly what task he did or did not perform.
Later in the book we find Bartleby taking up residence at the office where he worked. When Bartleby
s employer approached him about the fact that he was living in the office and asked him to leave the

Environmental Scanning And Key Risk Indicators
Indeed, there are multiple tools that can be utilized to determine organization risk, such as Risk
Analysis Questionnaire, Financial Statement Method, Flowchart Method, On Site Inspections,
Environmental Scanning, and Key Risk Indicators (Fraser Simkins, 2010). Ultimately, I chose to use
Environmental Scanning and Key Risk Indicators to assess The Kroger Company s risk.
Comparatively, each tool offers unique advantages and viewpoints of the organization s operations,
current risk, and perceived future risk.
So, why did I choose Environmental Scanning and Key Risk Indicators as the tools to identify risk
within Kroger? First, the decision had to made as to the type of risk to identify, such as environmental,
regulatory, political, or technological. Then, the determination was made as to who or what would be
impacted by the risk, so there were questions to be asked, such as:
What is the business risks within Kroger s market or industry?
What impact would be caused as a result of changes in market conditions, such fluctuations in prices,
interest rates, and exchange rates?
What would happen as a result of operational risks associated with internal system failures because of
mechanical problems or human errors?
What legal risks could occur from failure to meet contractual obligations? (Risk, 2009).
After determining the risk to be identified, I reviewed each tool to choose the one that best diagnosed
risk exposure. Thus, the Risk Analysis Questionnaire is a checklist

Capturing the investors imagination with your pitch deck
Now you have the building blocks of a great deck.
You ve seen examples of the slides that work and why they work.
You are aware of the information investors want to see, why they want to see it and how you can
convey it convincingly.
But how do you put these elements together?
What are the fundamentals of a winning pitch deck?
It s time to pay attention to the finer details combining your slides and the information about your
startup with a good storytelling structure.
As I ve outlined before, your pitch deck must tell a story it must not be a list of figures and facts but
an engaging journey down the path your startup is on from the idea to the business.
So, you need ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Pitch decks tell stories.
And stories often follow a specific structure, which you should use as the basis for your deck.
The winning storytelling formula comes in the form of Freytag s Pyramid:

So, what does it mean for your pitch deck?
Let s look at the possibilities it offers in its purest form:
THE EXPOSITION INTRODUCE THE TEAM AND THE COMPANY PURPOSE (VISION)
INCITING INCIDENT OUTLINE THE PROBLEM
RISING ACTION SET OUT THE CURRENT MARKET, COMPETITION
CLIMAX PROVIDE THE SOLUTION, SHOW THE UNIQUE VALUE PROPOSITION
FALLING ACTION INTRODUCE THE FINANCIALS
RESOLUTION OUTLINE THE BUSINESS MODEL, FUNDRAISING STRATEGY
DENOUEMENT TALK ABOUT TRENDS AND FUTURE PREDICTIONS
That s the basic composition for a good story and a solid way of structuring your essential slides.
However, you can change the impact of your story focusing on how you tell the story, even if you don
t fundamentally change the structure of the slides.
Soren Petersen and Steven Bussard brought up two great examples of this in their blog post Using
Storytelling to Pitch Startups .
They used the slides introduced by Guy Kawasaki and noted that by changing the structure slightly
and focusing on how you engage the listener, you can create different types of stories.
First, you could tell an origin story emphasising how things started with your

Metric System Persuasive Essay
More than likely you have run a 5k or know someone who has ran one. This is something that affects
me every day and I have researched this by looking at articles online from credible sources.
Measurements and calculations are something that you use every day, if you realize it or not, and one
time or another you will or already have converted imperial units to metric units. Today, I am going to
try and persuade you that the U.S.A. should switch to using the metric system. First, by looking at the
current situation and why it is a problem. Second, by looking at ways to solve this problem. Currently
we have to learn metric and imperial units in school. Finally, by showing you how everyone will
benefit from the changes and what you can do to help I will start by telling you about the need for the
U.S. to convert to the metric system. The U.S. is one of only 3 countries that still use imperial units
and it s harder ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Condliffe)The U.S. is losing money and trade opportunities because we aren t metric,(Marciano) and
every day we have to make conversions from imperial to metric just to understand things. Life would
be so much easier with the metric system, converting from inches to feet and quarts to gallons wouldn
t be necessary, there are 27 measurments in imperial for liquid compared to the 1, liter, in metric.
(Condliffe) If you travel to another country you aren t confused when you see a 90 kilometers per hour
sign. One of the major examples for why we need to go metric is that NASA lost 350 million dollars
because one of the robots was speaking to another robot in metric units and that robot was talking
back in imperial units. (Susannah) A smaller example is that many runners including myself run 5ks
and other running events and commonly get asked how far that is, and we have to reply with 3.11
miles because Americans are too stubborn to switch. A kilometer is .62 of a mile, the fact that we have
to know that isn t necessary. While this

Government Funded Versus Privately Funded Human Life
Introduction to Government Funded Versus Privately Funded Human Spaceflight
Getting into space isn t easy. It required the world s largest superpowers and billions of dollars of
research and development to create the first rockets capable of carrying human beings into space.
Approximately 60 years later, we find ourselves still struggling to reach LEO (low Earth Orbit)
without breaking the bank. With the retirement of the Space Shuttle in 2011, the United States has lost
its only dedicated vehicle capable sending astronauts and payloads into orbit. Relying on the Russian
Soyuz vehicle for our missions, the price of sending people into space has continued to be
astronomical. America needs a new line of cheaper rockets to fit the demand of future missions, and
what role the government should play in this expensive development process is a complicated debate
which affects many people. We re paying too much to go to space. NASA typically contracts out
launch vehicles from private companies for their launch needs, and historically they have almost
always gone to the United Launch Alliance (a joint venture between Lockheed and Boeing). Up until
recently, they have been one of the only organizations capable of sending cargo to both low Earth orbit
and geosynchronous orbit (an orbit which matches the trajectory of the craft with the rotation of the
Earth). As a result, a monopoly has been created, and the price of sending anything into space costs a
ridiculous amount of money.

Canada On The Home Front Essay
Canada s contribution on the home front played a significant role in the war effort. The federal
government transformed the Canadian lifestyle by introducing rationing which limited the quantity
and type of goods we consumed. On September 3, 1939, Prime Minister Mackenzie King s
government established the Wartime Prices and Trade Board (WPTB) which introduced rationing and
controlled prices to avoid inflation. Every Canadian was issued a ration card to buy essentials such as
sugar, meat, gasoline etc. Even though the cards restricted the number of goods it ensured the limit
was enough to fulfill an individual s need. Special permits were required to purchase cars, appliances,
and other resource consuming. Overall, rationing was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay on The Origin of Baseball
The Origin of Baseball
There is often disagreement about the origin of baseball. For more than 90 years, people have believed
in the myth that Abner Doubleday invented baseball. Baseball developed slowly, and changed with
time, and that is why it is called America s national pastime. Some believe it was a popular game from
England where milkmaids and farmer hands would toss a softball underhand and hit it with a closed
fist. Others even say it was evolved from cricket. From 1905 07, a special investigation was done to
find the beginning of baseball. An old man, claiming to be one of Abner Doubleday s childhood s
friend, swore that he invented baseball in 1839, in Cooperstown, New York (Stewart 5). The fact of

In New York City, a group of young men decided to make the game of rounders more suitable for
adults. There have been records that indicate the game called base ball was played in what is now
considered to be lower midtown Manhattan in 1842. On September 23, 1845, the Knickerbocker Base
Ball Club baseball s first team was formed in New York City. There was no other baseball club that
was more influential than the Knickerbockers. Its founder was a bank clerk named Alexander J.
Cartwright, and the co founder, Dr. Daniel Adams. The Knickerbockers adopted baseball s first
uniform, which consisted of blue pants, white shirts and straw hats. Cartwright and Adams were
responsible for coming up with some of the rules of baseball, although they have been changed.
November 18, 1853 there was a meeting held to decide who should be on the committee to make all
the rules. Dr. Adams, Abraham Tucker, and Duncan Curry were among the ones that were chosen
(Stewart, 6 7). They made up 17 rules, which were: the bases should be home, to second base, 42
paces; and from first to third base, 42 paces, halfway; and from home to pitcher not less than 15 paces.
The game is to consist of 21 counts or aces, but at the end an equal number of hands must be played.
The ball must be pitched to the bat. A ball knocked outside the range of the first or third base is foul.
Three balls being struck at and missed, and the last one caught, is a hand out; if not caught considered

Massachusetts Bay Colony Dbq
In the 1630s to 1660s, the Puritans strong belief in god and its upholding shaped the Massachusetts
Bay Colony s development. The colony was fully based on the Puritan s view which painted their
religion and it effected the lifestyle. The Puritans were a highly religious group that believed god s
will was the absolute. As shown in document 3, it states how the church is always right and nothing
should be done to offend it. This shows the grasp of the Puritans hold toward god because this was a
statement of the church s membership and so it should display their beliefs. It demonstrates the way
that Puritans work for god and should not do anything to tarnish the name. Then in document 4, it
thanks god for bringing them to this country because this is where they flourished and developed.

In document 5, it portrays god as all loving and he is the basis of morality. This shows the extent that
Puritans believed God controlled everything and was the judge to everything. Document 8 is about
how God was the leader and that the colonist should remember and be grateful for his guidance.
Higginson is a clergyman so it is natural that he would believe in the power of god and want to spread
it so others can see his view, this is reflected on the colony founded by the Puritanical principals.
When the puritans met with someone they disagreed with, it was because they challenged god. They
had a colony build by their views on god, so they banished the mavericks. Anne Hutchinson was
banished foe spreading word of not putting ultimate faith in god, and Roger William was also
banished for questioning

  • 2. The Characteristics And Features Of Mutual Funds 1.1 General Introduction The term investment refers to the commitment of funds made with an expectation of some positive returns. Basically investment means purchase of financial asset that yield a return, which is proportionate to risk assumed over some future period of time. In finance, investment means buying securities or other monetary or paper (financial) assets in the money markets or capital markets, or other in fairly liquid real assets, such as good as an investment, real estate or collectibles with a view to earn some gain over a period of time. 1.2 Features of Investment All the investment have the following features: Return Risk Safety Liquidity ... This diversification reduces the risk because seldom do all stocks decline at the same time and in the same proportion. You achieve this diversification through a Mutual Fund with far less money than you can do on your own. 3. Convenient Administration Investing in a Mutual Fund reduces paperwork and helps you avoid many problems such as bad deliveries, delayed payments and follow up with brokers and companies. Mutual Funds save your time and make investing easy and convenient. 4. • 5. Review Of Shiloh By Toni Morrison The protagonists are the most important characters of the stories. They play an essential part in building the story to its climax. The protagonists encounter with different characters and their experiences with those characters became paramount in developing the outcome of the story at the end. Sometimes we overlook the significance of non protagonists. Many non protagonist characters have a significant impact on the protagonists. In Shiloh written by Bobbie Ann Mason, Norma Jean and Leroy are unhappily married couple who are going through a transformation in their marriage. Leroy is failing to keep Norma Jean satisfied with their marriage and eventually faces a cruel reality which will alter his life. Also in Recitatif written by Toni Morrison, Twyla who briefly stayed at St. Bonny s orphanage, met Maggie and Roberta, who would later become indispensable individuals that would forever change her point of view on life. In the story of Shiloh, Leroy and Norma Jean have been in an unhappy marriage for sixteen years. Even though their marriage was an unhappy one, it seems to be normal, from Leroy s point of view, until he gets into an accident. According to Steward J. Cooke, he later comes to terms with the cruel reality of his shallow/empty marriage with Norma Jean (Cooke). Even though he knows about the abnormality in his marriage with Norma Jean, he is still stuck in the past and hoping that he could renew their marriage and start afresh. • 6. Heart Of Darkness By Joseph Conrad And The Film Apocalypse... Dark, suspenseful, and altogether brutal is what describes Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad and the film adaption Apocalypse Now by Francis Ford Coppola. A short novella published in 1899, Heart of Darkness centers on the journey taken by the narrator Marlow up the Congo River with a Belgian trading company. Upriver he encounters the mysterious ivory trader, Kurtz and is brought face to face with corruption and despair. Set in the Vietnam War, the film Apocalypse Now follows the central character, U.S. Army special operations officer Captain Benjamin L. Willard, of MACV SOG, on a mission to kill the radical and seemingly psychotic U.S. Army Special Forces Colonel Walter E. Kurtz. Coppola draws on Conrad s characters in order to create Captain Willard and Colonel Kurtz, but in adapting these dynamic characters he changes the internal and external forces both main characters endure. Coppola creates interesting parallels between Willard and Marlow; Marlow s voyage downriver to the heart of Africa and Willard s mission on the Nung River in Vietnam. Both men are on journey s to the darkest of places: journey into self , and the discoveries to be made there. Both are about men confronting fears of failure, insanity, death, and cultural corruption. However, both are also are drastically different at times. Ronald Bogue s article The Heartless Darkness in Apocalypse Now provides a wonderful intake on commonalties and differences in the two works. He notes that by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay On Truman s Controversial Decision On August 6th, 1945, a US B 29 bomber took off from an air base, carrying a package that would forever change the nature of war and be a subject of debate throughout the rest of the century. At approximately 9:15am, a large, mushroom shaped cloud rose over Hiroshima, Japan. The first atomic bomb had been used in combat. The surrender of Japan a week later marked the end of a long struggle for freedom, democracy, and peace. At the same time, it marked a change in the nature of war. American President Harry Truman s controversial decision to drop the atomic bomb on Japan ended the Second World War and began the nuclear age. Since the end of the war, Truman s decision has been a subject of debate, largely due to the high civilian death toll that resulted from the bombings. However, the context of the time period and the need to end the Second World War made the use of the nuclear weapons a necessary action to force the surrender of Japan. Truman s decision to use the atomic bomb against Japan was justified by the historical context of the Second World War and Japan s refusal to surrender unconditionally. • 11. The Pony Express The Pony Express was an extremely important event in history for three profoundly reasons. All together, it helped the farther east states to keep in contact with the West with all the news of what was happening, important documents, and sometimes small packages and family letters that were being sent from different states. It helped for new and more improved ideas of how could the spreading of news could be spread faster and safer. The good reason of keeping all the states in contact with all the others is because families moved or members of a family moved to further states for jobs. Travelers went in search for wealth and land and with the California Gold Rush people went to get a better life. But with the rush to go find gold, that left many people in need to know what was going and if their love ones found anything and what documents are being passed because of the California Gold rush. Especially when California became a state it put extreme pressure upon the citizens, business, and all miners alike for electing U.S government representatives. Furthermore people wanted to keep in touch with their friends, family, and companies. Prior to Woolf report, it was perceived that civil litigation has two main problems; cost of litigation and the duration of court proceedings. The effect of the enquiry and the report thereafter, created new system of litigation where parties are encouraged to settle dispute without a formal court proceeding. The process of taking a civil case to court is now governed by the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) which came into force in 1999. She is the first of her siblings to venture into Narnia and is the closest to the creatures living there. Lucy has shown that she is quite stubborn once she believes or decides something and doesn t back down when others disagree with her. Lucy sticks to her story of finding her way into Narnia and meeting a faun even when her siblings do not believe her as shown on page 26. An example of this would be on pages 65 through 67. Lucy trusts and believes Mr. and Mrs. Beaver and other friendly creatures as soon as she sees them; she instinctively knows that they are on the good side. Her judgment is proven to be correct when Mr. and Mrs. Beaver lead her and her family towards Aslan. She also notices that Aslan, despite all of his power and fierce looks, as filled with gentleness as shown on pages 162 to 164; after Aslan is revived, he and the Pevensie sisters end up playing and romping together joyfully. Towards the end of the story, it is shown that, unlike her siblings, Lucy does not really grow up. In chapter 17, C.S. Lewis wrote, But as for Lucy, she was always gay and golden haired, and all of the princes in those parts desired her to be their Queen... • 16. Analysis Of Geoffrey Chaucer s Canterbury Tales Essay Most people have experienced an event in their lifetime that has caused them to develop trust issues, and many of which will never overcome this lack of trust in others. There is a specific reason for this, and it all begins with the issue at hand itself, trust. Everyone with trust issues has been wronged and used relating to their trust in another person. They were betrayed by someone they never imagined could hurt them. As a recent song created by the rock group Phish has reverberated, Each betrayal begins with trust. Betrayal has been a common theme in all forms of literature since time began and is a part of being a social being, humans, that we simply cannot avoid. Where there is a relay of trust, there is an individual willing to extort it. Just as though some individuals will exploit power wherever they can find it in order to better themselves, others will exploit trust to better themselves. This first exploit of trust can be found within Geoffrey Chaucer s Canterbury Tales. While the whole entire work exposes corruptions within the Catholic Church during Chaucer s time, the breaking of trust is actually demonstrated within the Pardoner s Prologue and Tale. At the end of the Pardoner s tale, he offers the pilgrimage relics, for a fee of course. However, at the prologue of the Pardoner s tale, the Pardoner himself has explained how the Catholic Church and other fellow pardoners and church officials sell relics which are no more than normal items given with a ... So, why did I choose Environmental Scanning and Key Risk Indicators as the tools to identify risk within Kroger? First, the decision had to made as to the type of risk to identify, such as environmental, regulatory, political, or technological. • 27. Government Funded Versus Privately Funded Human Life Introduction to Government Funded Versus Privately Funded Human Spaceflight Getting into space isn t easy. It required the world s largest superpowers and billions of dollars of research and development to create the first rockets capable of carrying human beings into space. Approximately 60 years later, we find ourselves still struggling to reach LEO (low Earth Orbit) without breaking the bank. With the retirement of the Space Shuttle in 2011, the United States has lost its only dedicated vehicle capable sending astronauts and payloads into orbit. Relying on the Russian Soyuz vehicle for our missions, the price of sending people into space has continued to be astronomical. America needs a new line of cheaper rockets to fit the demand of future missions, and what role the government should play in this expensive development process is a complicated debate which affects many people. We re paying too much to go to space. NASA typically contracts out launch vehicles from private companies for their launch needs, and historically they have almost always gone to the United Launch Alliance (a joint venture between Lockheed and Boeing). Up until recently, they have been one of the only organizations capable of sending cargo to both low Earth orbit and geosynchronous orbit (an orbit which matches the trajectory of the craft with the rotation of the Earth). As a result, a monopoly has been created, and the price of sending anything into space costs a ridiculous amount of money. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
