- Application Performance Management (APM) solutions manage the performance, capacity and availability of dynamic applications from the Cloud or a traditional data center.
- APM aims to diagnose application performance issues to ensure that an expected level of service is maintained.
- As part of this monitoring, two specific sets of parameters are closely tracked.
- The first being performance metrics that define end user experience for an application, the second being metrics for computational resources used by the application for a specific load.
- APM solutions not only monitor and analyze logs but also diagnose problems and assist in pro-active performance management.
- APM is most commonly used for web applications where its components can also be individually monitored to pinpoint reasons for possible delays in the system.
- Neev has partnered with APM solutions like AppDynamics and Splunk to offer them to our customers.

AWS Cloud Center Excellence Quick Start Prescriptive GuidanceTom Laszewski
This presentation is a practical playbook for defining, establishing, and implementing a Cloud Enablement Engine (CEE). It collates and summarizes the lessons learned and anti-patterns gathered from the CEE journeys successfully navigated at Amazon and other large enterprise companies. A lot has been written about the need to establish a CEE, the benefits of moving to a productization mindset, and the business value of tribes, guilds, and two-pizza teams. However, larger organizations are still struggling with a CEE 30-60-90 day plan, and the essential components of the CEE during its first six months in existence.
The prescriptive guidance in this presentation provides pragmatic and tactical advice for establishing a Cloud Enablement Engine (CEE) – also referred to as a Cloud Center of Excellence (CCoE) or Cloud Enablement Team. This presentation serves as a step-by-step guide for the initial setup activities, and the top ten best practices that have been extrapolated from working across a large number of customers. What not to do is as important as what to do. Therefore, the top ten anti-patterns are discussed.
A key focus of the CEE is transforming the IT organization from an on-premise operating model to a Cloud Operating Model (COM). The transformation to COM and the charter of a CEE are highly correlated and interconnected. During the nascent stage of the CEE, the focus of the CEE will be on the infrastructure components of a COM. This includes the operations, security & control, platform architecture & governance, and infrastructure provisioning & configuration management functions. AWS understands that enterprise (on-premises) operating models are based on ITIL. Therefore, the cloud transformation from an on-premises operating model to a COM will include mapping ITIL to a cloud, agile, and DevOps based capabilities and processes. Fortunately, ITIL 4.0 embraces DevOps, cloud, and agile.

Business and IT agility through DevOps and microservice architecture powered ...Lucas Jellema
IT needs to run in production in order to generate business value. DevOps is among other things a way of thinking focusing on production software. A business application requires a tailor made platform to generate business value. The combination of application and its platform is a DevOps product. The DevOps team has full responsibility for that product through its entire lifecycle.
The microservices architecture promises flexibility, scalability, and optimal use of compute resources. Via independent components with well-defined scope and responsibility, interface, and ownership that are evolved and managed in an automated DevOps process, this architecture leverages current technologies and hard-learned insights from past decades.
This session defines the objectives of Business with IT, of microservices and DevOps and introduces Containers and the container platform Kubernetes as crucial ingredients for making DevOps happen.
The town hall meeting provided updates on various IT initiatives at Harvard University including research computing, cloud computing, DevOps, and information security. The cloud and DevOps program aims to improve service delivery by migrating applications to the cloud using new methodologies and processes. The first wave of migrations will focus on 25 applications from June to December 2015. Staff are being transitioned to new roles to support the program through training opportunities. The information security update highlighted confronting phishing as the main problem and promoting best practices like using strong and unique passwords.
"Configure once, deploy anywhere" is one of the most sought-after enterprise operations requirements. Large-scale IT shops want to keep the flexibility of using on-premises and cloud environments simultaneously while maintaining the monolithic custom, complex deployment workflows and operations. This session brings together several hybrid enterprise requirements and compares orchestration and deployment models in depth without a vendor pitch or a bias. This session outlines several key factors to consider from the point of view of a large-scale real IT shop executive. Since each IT shop is unique, this session compares strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and the risks of each model and then helps participants create new hybrid orchestration and deployment options for the hybrid enterprise environments.
Presentation given at the OpenStack summit in Paris (Kilo) on Tue Nov 4th.
Last summit I had the pleasure to present a talk which encountered some success "Are enterprise ready for the OpenStack transformation?" (also published on SlideShare) . This talk is a follow up on what are the best practices that are successful in operating the transformation. We will first focus on identifying the right use cases for a generic enterprise, then define a roadmap with an organisational and a technical track, to finish with the definition what would be our success criterias for our group. This will happen as a workshop summary based on the multiple engagements eNovance has been delivering over the past 2 years.

Many large enterprises have begun using AWS to host development and test environments while also building greenfield applications in AWS. After realizing the benefits that AWS has to offer, many Enterprise look for ways to accelerate their migration to the cloud. In beginning this journey they are often faced with a number of challenges such as determining which applications should move, how they should move, and how can they be effectively managed in the cloud. Accenture, working with AWS Solution Architects, and AWS Professional Services have developed a framework, based on our experiences, to quickly, efficiently, and successfully move enterprise applications to AWS at scale. This session will review our approach, tools, and methods that can help Enterprises evolve their cloud transformation programs.

20. Cloud or Not to Cloud?
An important question to ask is “Cloud or not to Cloud?”. While
making that decision few things to consider are:
• Is Quick turn-around time on Hardware provisioning needed?
• No up-front costing for Hardware required?
• I want to pay only the services I use?
• I don’t’ want a big networking team?
Migration to Cloud
21. What to Consider?
Once you have made up your mind on migrating or setting up
your new infrastructure on Cloud , costing should be projected
based on:
• Data in/out charges
• Number of servers required to support your infrastructure
Database Nodes required
• Number of servers required
• Type of HW required (CPU/Memory/Storage)
Best way to predict the cost is to use AWS online calculator:

Migration to Cloud
22. • QS - Successfully migrated entire environment to AWS Cloud
• Now, less then 5 minutes to spin-up a new machine
• DEV/QA/UAT can be spun-up/down in minutes
• Using ACL/SG allows full control of who and when access is
given to resources
• Monitor and Project our Monthly Cost for Infrastructure

Migration to Cloud
24. Current Setup
• 60+ EC2 Instances
• Windows and Linux(different flavors)
• 68 Volumes with Large Disk Space
