This slideshow was presented at the Stellenbosch University Winter School. I was asked to talk about the role of the Church in contributing towards the reaching of the Millenium Development Goals. Of course I spoke about 'EXPOSED - Shining a light on corruption' and Unashamedly Ethical, of which I am a part.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke of two Americas in his speech - a good America with prosperity and opportunity, and a bad America with poverty, unemployment, and poor living conditions. He discussed the racism blacks faced, like not being able to use public facilities or get certain jobs. His central message was about envisioning how our current actions will impact future generations and having responsibility for promoting justice. The Southern black church was extremely important to Dr. King, as it provided a place of strength and protection from the pressures of white society. He moved beyond civil rights to address larger issues like the Vietnam War and poverty, as his interactions with people both in the US and abroad made him see issues America needed to address.

It defines innovation and risk tolerance, explaining that innovation requires engaging with the unknown, which increases the likelihood of failure. It notes that people of faith tend to be risk averse due to a focus on preservation and a "broken theology of failure." However, the document advocates developing a redemptive view of failure and managing versus avoiding risk, in order to support organizational decision making around innovation. It provides templates for writing risk tolerance policies and statements to outline acceptable levels of risk related to outcomes.

How to Engage Your Readers with Powerful InfographicsJon Hirst
This document provides guidance on creating effective infographics to engage readers. It discusses the challenges of too much unfiltered information and consumers who skim rather than read deeply. Good infographics require curating meaningful data, following influencers, reading intentionally, and knowing where to find related information. When popularizing complex concepts, simplicity through idea chunks, understandable visuals, and accessible, actionable information is key. Infographics must show, not tell, balance design and content, and ensure the visuals accurately represent the data without adding confusion or changing the meaning. The process involves identifying impactful data insights, packaging them compellingly, adding a hook, and developing a cohesive visual narrative and structure that is easy to follow and share.
This version of the presentation was given at the 2014 Evangelical Press Association event. It helps knowledge workers to consider how they can move beyond the complexity of their world to simple and elegant solutions.

Difference in Differences - Does Strict Speed Limit Restrictions Reduce Road ...ThinkInnovation
Objective
To identify the impact of speed limit restrictions in different constituencies over the years with the help of DID technique to conclude whether having strict speed limit restrictions can help to reduce the increasing number of road accidents on weekends.
Context*
Generally, on weekends people tend to spend time with their family and friends and go for outings, parties, shopping, etc. which results in an increased number of vehicles and crowds on the roads.
Over the years a rapid increase in road casualties was observed on weekends by the Government.
In the year 2005, the Government wanted to identify the impact of road safety laws, especially the speed limit restrictions in different states with the help of government records for the past 10 years (1995-2004), the objective was to introduce/revive road safety laws accordingly for all the states to reduce the increasing number of road casualties on weekends
* The Speed limit restriction can be observed before 2000 year as well, but the strict speed limit restriction rule was implemented from 2000 year to understand the impact
Strategies
Observe the Difference in Differences between ‘year’ >= 2000 & ‘year’ <2000
Observe the outcome from multiple linear regression by considering all the independent variables & the interaction term

29. Your Goal

• Where is your audience on the issue?
• What are you hoping your community will do?
• How do you plan to move them from where
they are into action?

31. Managing the Conflict

• On this issue there will be disagreement within
your community
• In an era of social communication, you need to
decide how engaged you will be with your
audience as they process what you
communicate

– Is Your Heart Ready to Help?
– Jesus was a Refugee

I agree with everything Jon wrote. My problem lies not with the
true refugees but those who come in under that premise but
mean us harm (example; the hundreds of pictures of refugees I
have seen that were 75% able working young men) If you want
to call that "fear" then so be it. And, in that case we should all
stop locking our doors at night. After all, your words, " Then
release the fear and grab hold of faith!"
XX, thanks for your comment. The reality is that every
time we love, we open ourselves up to be hurt. Love
requires vulnerability that can only be protected by
faith. You are right that people will take advantage of
our love and compassion . . .
Thanks for getting back. I know you speak
truth.

Let's take the women and children in but send ALL THE MEN BACK
TO FIGHT FOR THEIR RIGHTS LIKE AMERICANS HAD TO!
Well, help is biblical. Turn the other face is biblical.
But letting radical muslims in our countries, watching
how they murdering enocent people, its a bit
different. Love your enemy, is true and biblical
statement, but when you see what 'thy neighborI am all for helping them get their country
back. I am not for bringing them into our
country unless they swear to our constitution.
That is biblical to how Moses ran the nation of
Israel.

Where in the Bible does His Word say that Jesus was ever a
refugee?
Dear XX, thanks for your note. We hope you get to
buy the resource and see how we go about making
that case, but the short answer is that as Joseph and
Mary were forced to flee the government of Herod
and live in Egypt for several years, the...

• Bring insights together to discern God’s calling
toward new plans for community engagement
