Migration from Java EE to JakartaEE 10 - Challenges & OpportunitiesBuhake Sindi
As many enterprise applications have been built using Java EE, migrating these applications to JakartaEE 10 is a key concern for developers. JakartaEE 10 is the latest version of the enterprise Java standard, and it provides a platform for building portable, cloud-native applications.
In this talk, we will explore the challenges and opportunities of migrating from Java EE to JakartaEE 10. We will begin by discussing the differences between Java EE and JakartaEE, and how the migration process differs from previous upgrades. We will then explore the steps involved in migrating an application, such as identifying the modules that need to be updated, testing the application, and deploying it to a JakartaEE 10 runtime.
One of the key challenges in migrating from Java EE to JakartaEE 10 is dealing with the removal of some of the legacy technologies that were present in earlier versions of Java EE. We will discuss strategies for dealing with this, such as using alternative technologies or refactoring the code to remove dependencies on these legacy technologies.
Throughout the talk, we will provide practical tips and best practices for migrating from Java EE to JakartaEE 10, based on our own experiences and those of the broader community. By the end of the talk, developers will have a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities of migrating to JakartaEE 10, and will be equipped with the knowledge and tools they need to make a successful transition.

It then addresses that while software projects are similar to other projects, the invisibility of progress, complexity, and flexibility of software make them more difficult to manage. In the 1990s, analyses found that only 10% of software projects were delivered on time and budget, with management discipline being more important than technology. The document goes on to discuss activities covered by project management and introduces the waterfall model for examining software project frameworks both in theory and in practice.
The document discusses QA best practices in an Agile development environment. It describes key aspects of Agile like iterative delivery, self-organizing teams, and rapid feedback. It addresses challenges of fitting QA into short iterations and questions around testing approaches. The document advocates for testing to be collaborative, automated, and continuous throughout development. It provides recommendations for QA roles in activities like planning, stand-ups, retrospectives and acceptance testing. Overall it promotes testing practices in Agile that focus on early feedback, automation, and involvement of QA throughout the development process.
Essence: A Common Ground for Flexible MethodsEd Seidewitz
The document discusses Essence, a common ground for flexible software engineering methods. It provides a kernel of essential concepts and a language for defining methods and practices close to how practitioners work. The kernel includes things like activities, competencies, and states. The language allows graphically and textually defining elements like alphas (abstract progress attributes), activity spaces, and competencies. Practices can then be composed from these elements to provide guidance tailored to different contexts. An example shows defining the Scrum practice by extending elements from the kernel. The goal is a flexible yet common foundation to help practitioners across a variety of methods and experience levels.
In the document, questions are asked about various aspects of Pega rules and architecture. Key points covered include:
- The AssigTo parameter is needed to make a router flow shape available.
- The Show-Step-Page method views step page info in XML format for debugging.
- Decision and Ticket flow shapes can be used to call a map value and cancel work processing.
- The prefix "ps" indicates a property value can be directly updated by a worker.
- Standard work party classes include Data-Party-Person, Data-Party-Org, and Data-Party-Operator.
- The Requestor page contains access roles, ruleset lists, and HTTP parameters.
