If you destroy one lot of queen cells the bees will immediately make some more and will probably swarm earlier than normal in their development - often before the first cells are sealed. If you destroy queen cells twice you run the risk of the colony swarming and leaving behind no provision for a new queen.

Turning eggs three times a day is important for embryo development. Candling is a technique used to check egg fertility and embryo growth by shining a light source through the egg in a darkened room. Key signs are a dark spot indicating a fertile embryo that grows larger over time, or a clear egg indicating infertility. Dead embryos may show a blood ring or dark spot. Candling is most useful from days 8-12 but should stop after day 16-17 as the embryo has nearly fully developed by then.

Take the top box off of a two box hive (or the
middle box from a three-box hive) in early
spring when there are bees and brood in both
boxes.

Set it on bottom board with cover.

because they have no brood to

have a queen--it will take at least six weeks
for them to raise a queen and get a decent

the old hive because they are not busy
caring for brood.

You get the old hive requeened.

If you let the old hive requeen itself you
get a break in the brood cycle which will
break the Varroa brood cycle as well.
28. Simplified Cut Down Split
●
Take all but the bottom brood box off and
put them on a new stand.
●
Add supers to the original hive.

Add a super to the new hive.

Come back in four weeks and look for a
good number of bees in each. Combine any
weak hives with another hive.
