This document describes the growing pains experienced by the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown in managing their Moodle installation. As Moodle usage increased from a small number of early adopters to over 55% of faculty, course management became untenable doing it manually. They developed an automated Course Manager block for Moodle that streamlines the course request process, automatically creates courses, and sends notifications. This has drastically reduced the time needed to manage course requests from several minutes each to under 30 seconds. Future work includes additional reporting and customization features.
This paper will focus on the progression in the use of Moodle and technology by educators at AUB, which seems to be calling for a paradigm shift in training strategies. A shift that should take into consideration that IT support and the Moodle application should be better tailored to the individual needs of educators.

The Mathematical Suite for Moodle is a collection of tools to support online mathematical learning. It includes MathEditor for editing mathematical expressions graphically or through LaTeX. It supports matrices, colors, and works across devices. The suite also allows for mathematical interpretation of questions and integration with Sage. Additionally, it incorporates WMath, which stores mathematical expressions in XML format and can render them in different formats or convert them to databases. Session description: Over the past 18 months, Purchase College has migrated from Blackboard to Moodle for our campus learning management system. Our decision was partially driven by the lower total costs for Moodle as an open source product and our desire to avoid the risks and lack of control associated with commercial applications. Our primary consideration however was that Moodle provides a pedagogically stronger learning platform, and its openness allows us to integrate it with other learning applications that faculty would like to use to promote student engagement.
This session will focus on the pedagogical aspects of Moodle as a learning platform. We will briefly discuss the process and findings Purchase College used to develop a consensus among faculty, students and technology staff to switch to Moodle. Participants will then spend the bulk of the session in a directed exploration of the diverse learning activities in Moodle that promote student engagement and learning, to facilitate discussion of how Moodle compares to ANGEL and Blackboard. We will examine examples of how Moodle’s open architecture allows it to integrate with external Web 2.0 applications, and finally discuss options for no-cost hosted Moodle solutions that will allow participants to evaluate Moodle for their campuses.

We all know that integration projects tend to be challenging, a lot of time is spent on analysis and trying to understand how things will work. In the real world we still find that no matter how much analysis we do we never really know the full story until we try to wedge the square peg into the round hole. In this session Mike will talk about how he used Logic apps to help him elaborate the requirements for a project using a prototype built with Logic Apps and how some of the learnings from this prototype will save plenty of time later in the project.

The institutional repository Digital Commons@Georgia Southern launched in Fall 2013. Faculty immediately began to utilize the services including journals/conferences sites and SelectedWorks faculty profiles. The repository also sparked an unexpected success: collaboration between the Zach S. Henderson Library and the Office of Research. The Office of Research created an Expertise Search and purchased Plum Analytics, two services that integrate with Selected Works profiles.
Virginia Tech transitioned from Blackboard to Sakai as its learning management system. It began piloting Sakai in 2005 and aims to complete the transition by December 2010. It has provided extensive training and support to faculty through workshops covering Sakai overview, tasks, pedagogy, and one-on-one help. Training attendance has grown from hundreds to over a thousand. The transition involves migrating content from Blackboard to Sakai through an automated tool and manual testing migration. Feedback is used to refine training and development to aid the transition.
StudyNet is introducing improvements to navigation, search functionality, modules, assignments, and student support based on usage data and feedback to make content easier for students to find and for staff to manage; new features include a redesigned portal, course monitoring dashboard, personal timetables, and Adobe Connect virtual classrooms; additional changes aim to streamline processes and encourage best practices for organizing teaching materials.
