Free-to-use AI chatbot platform

Bard is a free-to-use communication tool from Google, designed as an experimental conversational tool that leverages artificial intelligence to respond to conversations and deliver results based on user-provided prompts. By using new, proprietary technology, the AI chatbot formerly tagged as Google Code Red provides essentially the same services and the same capacity.

One significant difference between Bard and its main competitor, Open AI’s ChatGPT, is that the Google brainchild has the ability to browse the internet in real time in order to answer. Other AI chatbots only rely on the datasets they were trained with.

A new AI chatbot challenger

The former name for Bard, Google Code Red, was given in response to the search engine provider’s perceived threat of tech startup OpenAI and its ChatGPT. With intelligent machines doing various work such as artwork and content creation, it could change how people use search engines or the internet in general. With a minor name change, Google has finally released its ChatGPT competitor.

While both AI chatbots perform the same tasks, the logic in which they perform their tasks is fundamentally different. OpenAI uses large volumes of information to train their chatbot whereas Google uses a patented technology that allows a bot to engage in a free-flowing conversation, surfing the internet as needed. Still, this AI has limited integration with third-party apps, although developers intend to release a dedicated API down the line.

Lastly, while most AI tools are restricted based on the complexity of the question or writing prompt, this Google alternative doesn’t have the same problem, although the natural language could still use some work. Meanwhile, OpenAI’s tool is free and open to the public while Google currently restricts usage to a predetermined number of users. If you can’t access the tool, you can register and join its waitlist.

Expansion of AI capabilities

As initially intended, Bard will soon be equipped with extensions that integrate information from Google auxiliaries and other third-party websites. Thanks to this, the AI chatbot will be able to provide more accurate and recent information.

Some of the websites include:

  • Google Docs
  • Google Flights
  • Google Hotels
  • Google Maps
  • OpenTable
  • YouTube
  • Zillow

A more responsive content generator

AI chatbots have found wide applications, mostly in the creation of bodies of text. With Google Bard now joining the market, writers and researchers in more specific fields can leverage its built-in ability to surf the web and find answers or create paragraphs based on prompts. Although it has its own set of restrictions, the resources available to Google can definitely improve the platform.

PROS

  • Can surf the internet in real-time
  • Delivers in roughly the same time, regardless of topic
