Tidal music streaming app is going away from Samsung TVs

If you have a Samsung TV and stream music from Tidal, we have some bad news for you. Tidal has announced that it is retiring its music streaming app for Samsung's TVs. This is a general direction that Tidal has taken over the past few weeks, and it has already removed its app from Amazon's Fire TV and Roku streaming devices.

Tidal's music streaming app will not be available on Samsung TVs

One of the popular music streaming services, Tidal, has announced that its music app will be removed from Samsung's TVs running Tizen OS (spotted by TechIssuesToday)starting July 8, 2024. Users have started receiving emails from Tidal about this discontinuation. Naturally, some are unhappy with the company's decision, as they can no longer access their music collection and playlists without using another device.

This is the end of Tidal's partnership with Samsung, which started in 2018 when the app was launched for Tizen OS for TVs. Samsung considered acquiring Tidal at one point, but the talks didn't materialize.

The story continues after the video.

Tidal is popular among Hi-Fi enthusiasts, as it offers near lossless audio streaming via the Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) format. However, the company recently decided to switch to FLAC format for lossless audio streaming. The company could shut down its music streaming app for more smart TV platforms.

Author's Note: Sadly, Samsung TV users have no choice but to buy an Apple TV or Chromecast if they wish to continue using the Tidal app. Since Samsung TVs lack Google Cast (also known as Chromecast Built-In), Galaxy smartphone and tablet users can't cast music from the Tidal app to their TVs. They will have to use Tap Sound, which uses Bluetooth rather than Wi-Fi, so lossless audio won't be possible.

What is laughable is that iPad, iPhone, and Mac users can cast music from their devices to their Samsung TVs using AirPlay 2. This is why we want Samsung to bring Google Cast functionality to its TVs, as LG did. Or, for the long term, it can consider bringing Matter Cast to Samsung TVs, making them future-proof.
